We found Valerie and Smithfield Place after battling our way down the high street. The approach to 7 Smithfield Place is not the most becoming and it was with some trepidation that we knocked at the door. A welcoming smile and greeting and it was all looking ok. And then goodness!!! The space you are given is a delight. Roomy,... More

The rooms seemed to have a lot in them, yet never felt cluttered. The beds were deliciously luxurious, spacious and inviting. Peace and quiet prevailed everywhere. Copious amounts of snacks and drinks were provided in the rooms. The bath and shower were beautifully modern and wonderful to use, chock-full of every toiletry you could wish for. The choices of breakfast... More

Smithfield Place B&B was by far the most wonderful discovery of our trip to England. So warm and welcoming, so comfortable, and so convenient for our itinerary. Try the hearty English breakfast - you may not need or want to eat again that day! Nearby restaurants, particularly Barolo, are also wonderful "finds." The owner/operator/hostess is the very embodiment of what... More

Am writing this review for my mother and father in law who recently visited us and stayed at Smithfield's for 4 nights. I'd recommended it based purely on the reviews on here and was a little nervous when I dropped them off to check in. When I came back to pick them up, they were very well pleased with everything... We can hardly describe the outstanding welcome and service we enjoyed while staying at Valerie for 4 days. The rooms are warm, cozy and perfectly clean. The bathroom is shiny and equipped modern. Every little thing, you could think of is provided for. We were spoiled with wonderful breakfasts, you can dream of. But it was real. You can't help... More

The description of “guesthouse” is definitely the wrong one for this address!! Number seven is something completely different. Valerie has created an oasis of calm, tranquillity and luxury in such a way that the house feels like it’s yours! Every single detail, every wish is catered for There isn’t anything you could think of to better it. This isn’t just... More

The approach down Smithfield Place belies this little gem of a B and B. Don't be put off. We were in Bournemouth for a wedding and from the first greeting from our charming hostess to the moment we left, the whole experience was outstanding. Whether or not you like your surroundings a little overdressed, our bedroom, bathroom (of course it's... More

My partner and I stayed in this excellent BB for 2 nights. Lovely bedroom with very comfortable bed. Nice bathroom with both bath and shower. The choice at breakfast was exceptional and all the extra little touches like wine in the room very much appreciated. Off street parking was a convenience No hesitation in recommending.

Quaint, Quirky, and absolutely above the average. Food outstanding, with excellent choice. We even had wine in our room! There are restrictions: the business is small, and the guesthouse has 1 (or 2 if linked) rooms. The staff are very accommodating and very friendly. There is even a comprehensive manual, which covers such things as menu, wifi, and how to... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Smithfield Place is the perfect place to base yourself whilst exploring the stunning Dorset countryside, whether you wish to relax on the 7 miles of golden beaches, ramble along the breathtaking Jurassic coastline or take a more scenic approach visiting the quaint rural villages, castles and cathedrals. This delightful Victorian cottage, extended in the 1980s and fully refurbished, offers accommodation of a double bedroom with a king sized bed and a newly fitted private bathroom complete with a walk in shower and bath. A smaller double room is also available, but only to the same guests, thus retaining the private and quiet environment we wish to provide. The bedroom is finished beautifully, mixing antiques and modern furniture and has tea and coffee making facilities (including fresh milk!) with complimentary nibbles, free Wifi, a plasma TV with freeview, hairdryer and a clock/radio alarm. There is also a private sitting room for guests to use complete with Skt TV, and if it's a little chilly outside we will even light the fire for you. And of course, being a bed and breakfast, after a good night's sleep you'll be expecting a good morning's breakfast. So, what better way to start the day than on a hearty full English breakfast, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs or even delicious homemade salmon fish cakes served with poached eggs, accompanied with fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts and fresh breads. We will always try and accommodate any choices and in particular any dietary requirements so please just ask if you need anything special. We try our best to provide locally grown and organic products. ... more   less
