Myself and my SO stayed here recently, and the B&B is under new management from this month. Carol and Mark have made a friendly atmosphere at the property. The room was well presented and nice and clean. The breakfast was great, all in all a lovely stay and good value for money.

Myself and my partner stayed at The Chesterfield for a week earlier this month. Having reviewed Damian’s review of this hotel I feel compelled to state my thoughts. We arrived at The chesterfield at 17.45 to be welcomed by the proprietors. We had travelled almost 300 miles to

Response from Chesterfieldtorquay, Owner at The Chesterfield
Responded 24 Aug 2018
Total nonsense review, from someone who has not stayed here. The content is both untruthful and misleading. Firstly, yes, we take payment as guests arrive. This helps protect our business from people who leave without paying, as has happened to many of our neighbours in the past. (If you go abroad on holiday you pay six to eight weeks ahead of your arrival, so why do you have a problem paying on arrival here?) Secondly, yes there is a welcome book in the rooms, which as is explained at time of check in (and had you really checked in you would know this!) it is for the mutual benefit of guests and owners. It says no takeaway meals in the room, which is standard for B&B's as guests use the fresh white towels as serviettes, and spill food on the white bedding, which does not wash out. Again, this is to protect our business and property. As is evident from our other reviews, everyone receives a warm friendly welcome when they arrive at the Chesterfield, so again tis comment is nonsense. 'No Noise' as you have stated, is actually a misrepresentation of what the information book actually says. It asks that when coming in late at night you are considerate of other people in the building. This is not unreasonable to ask, and anyone that thinks it is should not be booking to stay in a B&B. 'This Is Our Home', well...yes it is. We live here and we ask guests to remember that as well as our business it is our home, so please show it respect. Is that too much to ask? We don't have communal areas as we offer bed and breakfast. If you want a bar or lounge I suggest you book somewhere that advertises that they offer such. i.e a hotel. But all this is common sense. We have not had a Damien T ever staying with us, so thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify some points for other prospective guests who want to come and stay here. You may have written this review on behalf of someone else, but they have clearly twisted what has been said to them on arrival, and fed you incorrect information. If they were not happy with their stay they should have told us.

There is parking for three cars at the rear, but plenty of free on street parking just at the back of the building.
