We ate in the Rising Sun on Tuesday night and enjoyed the gammon, egg & chips - good sized portions and good value. Service was good and cheerful. The dessert menu was limited and slightly out of step with the range of starters and main courses on the menu. We enjoyed our meal and booked for the following night for the...

Thoroughly enjoyed eating fish, chips and mushy peas sitting outside watching all the comings and goings of the town and harbour. A good local pub, serving a menu of typical pub grub, and friendly staff.

Nice setting- lovely sitting outside in the sun, but that's it really. Lunch was mediocrity personified-a microwaved baked potato stuffed with very inferior baked beans and a tiny sprinkling of cheese. Cost was £7.95 which was quite extortionate. I ordered a still mineral water and was given a sparkling. There was an indifference in the staffs' manner which was quite...

Had a really good lunch here. St Mawes is a lovely old harbour town, and expensive. The Rising Sun offers good food, served all day with an extensive choice of main meals and snacks. Not cheap but St. Mawes isn't cheap. We wanted a light snack as we were walking from our campsite near St Just in Roseland. We chose...

Unfriendly and unprofessional staff. Rude and arrogant manager (or owner?) who mistreated his clients. Overly oily food - the worst fish and chips we've had so far. Overall unpleasant experience. Definitely not recommended!

Thank you for you review, im sorry you felt your experience was a bad one, our fish and chips are very popular, and we take pride in all our food but they are obviously not to your liking.

I am afraid the food here is not up to scratch the carvery looked ok but we ordered a crab salad and the potatoes were not cooked and the salad you could have put in an egg cup there was nothing of it, and the amount of crab was less than expected from a Cornish harbour, I have been to...

Thank you for your review, im sorry to hear our food was not up to standard, I do hope that you mentioned this at the time to allow us to rectify the problem for you, also I am shocked to hear that our staff have no manners, they are a very good team and work extremely hard.

This was our third visit to the Rising Sun and we were not disappointed ! The fish and chips were the best ever. Lovely fish without the skin, superb batter and terrific chips ! All washed down by a pint of Cornish. Heaven !!

Our stay at the Rising Sun was good but maybe a little bit underwhelming. There was nothing particularly bad about the room, but generally the whole place was just a little shabby and perhaps in need of a little bit of general maintenance. This could be because it is near the end of a busy summer season in fairness. The...

It's not often that your hotel feels like you are staying with friends, but that is exactly the feeling we had at The Rising Sun. It is certainly not flash (friends houses seldom are), but the room was large, comfortable and welcoming. There were even two arm chairs. The bathroom was good for an English bathroom. The best thing about...
