Booked this hotel as a second choice in the area: it will now be our first choice by far . Lovely decor and location with excellent food and service . Recently refurbished with open fires and a wonderful terrace right on the water . Definitely the top hotel in the area

Visited with my wife this week. The venue was excellent. The staff were young, courteous and relaxed. The meal was excellent and good value for the cost. Would certainly return if I was back in St. Mawes. A very good experience.

We found this hotel by accident we were booked into another in St Mawes and checked out when we found the Idle Rocks. The hotel has just been refurbished and it is truly beautiful. They are very welcoming the room was huge, with a fantastic sea view and a massive bathroom, the quality is exceptional. We had dinner and breakfast...

We spent two nights at this wonderfully located hotel. From the time we arrived to departure, the staff could not have been more helpful or attentive. Our room with breathtaking sea views was decorated and equipped to extremely high specifications. The cleanliness was faultless. Should you wish for a relaxing ambience with well presented food, friendly but courteous staff and...

Individual menu , we could not find anything that sprang out at us, but we live nearby and thought that we should give it a try. We missed out the starters as nothing appealed and went for the special , steak and chips with peppercorn sauce. The steak was charcoal burnt , the chips were exuding grease, and the sauce...

My wife and I had dinner at the Idle Rocks as non residents. We started by having cocktails in the lovely lounge area whilst perusing the menu; the weather was windy and so the gorgeous dockside patio area was shut up but the views across the Fal estuary were still wonderful. The menu was well balanced with good wines (though...

We had dinner here and although it was very busy we had to wait nearly an hour to be seated in the restaurant. We were not guests at the hotel and had walked in, but we're told it would be a wait of 15-20 minutes, which seemed reasonable. The food was ok but my husband sent back his main as...

We stayed in room 17 over looking the harbour and in a building next to the main hotel so out of the main building, The sea was outside our window at high tide. The food was excellent, the staff very helpful and friendly. The car valet parking is fabulous. The only problem was we had to leave and give the...

We stayed for 3 nights and were very impressed with the service from start to end. As some previous reviews have stated nothing is too much trouble for the excellent staff. The harbour room we were upgraded to had amazing views to wake up to and was very quiet. More than we would normally pay but on the balance of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. Our 19 bedrooms, most with stunning vistas over the bay, have been thoughtfully designed, each having their own unique identity with fabulous fabrics and decor that leave you in no doubt that you are by the sea. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock's restaurant, run by our head chef, Guy Owen, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard our setting is very relaxed. ... more   less
