Where the Rivers' Fal and Percuil meet to join the open sea, St Mawes boasts the perfect picture postcard retreat and at the heart of the village, right on the quay you will find The Ship and Castle Hotel. Once The Ship and Castle Inn, and a warren of small fishermen's cottages (remnants of which can still be seen at the rear of the existing building) The Ship and Castle is now a 54 bedroom hotel with all the charm and character one would expect for its location. Our bar and lounges offer the perfect location for a peaceful day in St Mawes watching the world go by, or enjoying a traditional Cornish Cream Tea. We have a selection of sea view rooms which understandably are in high demand and are well recommended to make your stay that little bit more special.

The hotel is very clean and well decorated and staff were friendly. I had a room on the second floor which wasn’t great. Firstly the shower hardly worked and water trickles out. Secondly it over looks the entrance and smoking area of another pub (2metres across small alleyway)

Thank you for posting your comments and I'd like to take the opportunity if I may, to address the concerns you quite rightly made. First of all I wish to extend my apologies for the noise and the fact that you could not sleep, there is 24 hour night porter and duty management cover on reception and we would have happily moved you. It was New Years Eve but even so, I was concerned to read that the over exuberant celebrations of patrons on a separate premises, effectively beyond my control, have caused a disturbance to one of my guests. You can be assured that this is a rare occurrence and the premises next door usually never causes such issues, which most certainly aren't prevalent to this quiet fishing village. I'm sorry that on this occasion your stay was adversely affected by external factors and I hope that my response has adequately addressed your concerns. Kind Regards, Laurie Simpson General Manager

A busy bank holiday in Cornwall NYE - pub was busy. Staff were keen to help and found a table so able to have a nice light lunch in a friendly environment. Food served quickly and landlady was proactive and the couple of hours spent at the pub were enjoyable.

I can especially recommend a visit during the summer months, the village transforms into the Monaco of the South west, you really wouldn't believe that you were in the UK! Just a thought, we hope we can count on seeing you again..bring the sun cream! Kind Regards, Laurie Simpson General Manager Laurie

What a really lovely break my friend and I had here. There were only two problems that we had, one was the weather. The other was a problem that only Shearings can sort out. The hotel was warm and comfortable, the food was very good and our waitress, Tina, was a star employee at

We were part of a Shearings coach trip and our first impression of the area and hotel was good. It was nice that the manager took the time to come on the coach when we first arrived to explain various aspects of our stay eg time of meals, how the £25 food/drink voucher works

I couldn't answer the question on room choice with a numbered room, some of the rooms have a sea view, the one I stayed in doesn't, but was still a nice room. Parking is limited in this area, and legal street parking is the best option. I do not know what parking, if any, the hotel provides. St. Mawes is an unspoilt village that is pressed against the sea by the hills behind.

We served a wide variety of Bottles Cornish real ales sourced from Skinner's Brewery in Truro. There is a hair dryer supplied in each room. Regards Matt Reed Assistant Manager The Ship & Castle Hotel

Can you tell how to reach port Isaac from the hotel .
I was on a Shearings Holiday at the time and did not really take a note of the road numbers or direction from St Mawes.
