Pros Check-in process - efficient with friendly staff (contrary to some previous reviews). Building – interesting. A writer of fiction (Charles Dickens) stayed here and a fictional baby (Jack Webster) was conceived here. Bed - clean and VERY comfortable. We slept well. TV - large, good quality, working remote. Décor in the bedroom – quite cool (we were in a... More

Amazing hotel, rooms were clean and accommodating, we had a good view! Breakfast was also nice, and all staff were lovely and helpful. Car parking can be busy and expensive! You can pay for parking and not even be guaranteed a space on the car park! Which is a downside! Another pain is the hotel room keys as we had... More

Just back from 2 night stay at The Queen hotel, City Rd, Chester. Bargain break from Super Breaks. Overall the hotel is very pleasant, with an imposing entrance, staircase and reception. A true Victorian period building with interesting features. Plenty of choice with a public bar, high standard restaurant and lounge area.9 Our deal included breakfast and dinner on the... More

This is really a hotel with two faces. The reception staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. The corridors to the rooms very grand looking and lots of interesting knock knacks. Then the grandeur slips away when the room door opens. Very uninspiring decor. The bathroom was very nice, big and modern. The bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed I have... More

Do not waste your money! Rude staff at the front of house, is it so hard to smile? After staying here previously I was looking forward to my stay. Our room was old and dated! £15 for car parking, it's £5 for overnight on the race course. A small walk but better value. I wouldn't stay here again.

Booked this hotel for two nights, or so I thought, on arriving at reception was told there wasn't a booking, but on producing our booking confirmation the miserable receptionist finally found us a room, not a smile in view. The room was very nice and very clean. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was very nice and reasonably priced, but... More

It took a full 20 minutes to book me in and that's not just waiting that face to face !! And I do love the bit where they put you on hold while they answer the phone which I find very rude. To help I had to get the email, with the booking on it from my phone. Anyway booked... More

Easy to find: Just opposite of the Railway Station. Very nice and large rooms. One can see and smell history. There is a 24 h service desk with friendly people. Great English Breakfast with a nice view into the hotel's garden, but slightly stressed personel. Refering to the price of the rooms, it cannot be understood, why there is a... More

Grand Hotel, location directly across from train station, 10 min walk to city centre (£5 cab). Rooms very big but hotel bar and especially restaurant lets it down. Our meal in Kings Grill was very disappointing. Hotel courtyard very nice and staff very accommodating. No gym or spa (-1 point) plus restaurant (-1 point) reason for 3/5 rating.
