Raw west coast New Zealand. We were lucky enough to have been recommended Black Sands lodges truly unique nz experience only 45 minutes from downtown Auckland. Not far from the beach where the iconic Oscar winning film the piano was filmed. Highly recommended you won't regret it. Great hosts - real NZ

Piha on Auckland's West Coat is nothing short of exhilarating on a rugged and wild day. Black Sands Lodge is superbly located just metres from the beach yet secluded amongst the pohutakawa trees. Lying in bed in our well appointed cottage suite listening to the crashing waves was magnificent. The owners Bobbie and Julia are old hands in the hospitality...

Managed to secure the last room available at Black Sands at short notice when attending a dear friend's birthday bash. What a treat after not having visited Piha for a couple of years to find such a welcoming lodge with Bobbie and Julia as hosts. This precious piece of Kiwi Land is surrounded by stunning native bush and just a...

I came on this place by accident after turning onto the wrong motorway after leaving the airport. Serendipity stepped in, and I discovered Piha and Black Sands Lodge, both of which are real gems. Bobbie & Julia are absolutely delightful and the most perfect hostesses! They certainly love what they do. The room was excellent; a living space and kitchenette, nice bathroom, and a cozy...

All the reviews are so true......... a perfect little gem at Piha. All tastes were catered for and what the hosts, Julia and Bobbi don't know about Piha, is not worth knowing. They are generous, hospitable and made the weekend all the more special. We look forward to another visit very soon

My lovely wife and I just spent a delightful evening in the Tui Suite at Black Sands Lodge. The suite is spotlessly clean and comes with everything you would need for a peaceful stay in Piha. The bed is very comfortable with thick fluffy pillows, and an extra blanket in case you get cold and has a lovely double-width door...

“The Tui suite was the real thing.....first in the morning and just before sunset....a couple of Tui birds came by to sing for me...exotic. The rainwater is collected for tap drinking and showers, conserve it but enjoy it. I took a bottle home with me because it was so delicious. The WiFi connection is excellent... The windows are so "squeaky clean" it felt like I was outside,......but keep em closed at night..there was one mosquito...use the screened window and you'll sleep in paradise found”
