Travelling down from Dundee we needed a meal, so the passenger looked places up, as we didn't want to stop on the motorway to eat, and found The Plough. The welcome here was warm, the chalk board specials looked very good, we both opted for the smoked rabbit pie, it was a proper pie, pastry top and bottom, the flavour... More

Unfortunately my wife developed nausea and vomiting a few hours after eating a fish and shell fish meal. The response from the manager was appalling showing ignorance of the potential public health risks and a refusal to even consider that the restaurant may have some responsibility here and that some potential steps could be taken to mitigate any further risks... This is one of our favourite places to eat! We live locally, and try to get there at least once a month (often for Sunday lunch - can't beat the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding!). Staff are fabulous - friendly, helpful and efficient, and the food is always excellent - great quality and beautifully cooked. It's equally nice to eat... More

Heard lots of good things about this place so booked a table for dinner. Staff were very pleasant. Ordered bottle of wine, waitress corked & poured. Nibbles ordered if cauliflower pakora, arrived, batter soggy & chewy rather than light & crisp. Starter was OK. Both ordered Chicken as main course. I asked for no parmesan ( it stated parmesan on... We were looking out for somewhere nice for a bit of lunch. We saw the menu and ordered both a starter and a main course! We enjoyed that so much we decided to have desert and coffee. We left 2hours and a bit later - fully satiated. In fact if we had not been travelling on to an event I... More

From the moment we arrived we thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Plough. Lovely decor, atmosphere and fantastic food. The only negative is they do not serve a cooked breakfast until after 8.30am. We had to leave by 8am and felt we should've been made aware that there would be limited breakfast. Definitely would return!

what started off as a meal for 4 ended up with extended family of 10, including two your girls. We were made welcome and show a table which gave us some exclusivity. Food was excellent and the service was efficient. Girls were welcome and there was no rush for the table when we had finished. Varied menu but all was... More

Stumbled on this lovely Pub/restaurant/hotel, on our way to Carlisle, stopped with a baby and dog,on a nice sunny november lunchtime, Staff were very welcoming. Our dog was allowed inside and we had a very tasty lunch by the bar. Would definitely consider an overnight stay here,as the location is so good on route to lakes and Scotland.....

Arrived to a very busy Sunday lunchtime service. Lovely room and a lovely (quieter)evening meal. Disappointing breakfast, having requested well done poached eggs very runny ones arrived. The smoked salmon and eggs looked like the previous evening special but cold salmon (not smoked). Not what we have been use to on previous visits.

We popped into this lovely place on the way to Ambleside. The bar area is beautifully decorated. We both chose a snack lunch and it couldn't be faulted. It came with a large amount of chips which were delicious. I would love to return.
