We stayed here for a special occasion as we were going to Alton Towers. On arrival we got a free bottle of Prosecco which was a really nice and appreciated touch.

It depends what sort of distance you are wanting to walk and what you call nearby (and what you call steep to be honest). The other replies are right in that you can have guaranteed low gradients by going to the Tissington trail and the majority of the walk around Carsington Water is quite level, but they are a car ride away. Nearer there is a trail walk (disused railway) from Dentone to Oakamoor). If you mean nearer, in the village, then there are a couple of directions you can go for a short walk mostly on the level.
