We spent 2 days here in Rm #6 on the second floor. A lovely room with a private deck and spacious shower. Very comfortable bed. A choice of four provided breakfasts that were preceded by a fresh fruit plate, delicious, copious, and served by gracious hostesses. You could chose to eat on the Reception area deck, quite up close and personal to a variety of feeding birds and animals. Restaurants are within an easy walking distance. Or you can walk further and catch a $5 cab back. The room was very clean and quite charming. There is a small loop trail on the property that was enjoyable.

Quiet lodge in Monteverde. We spent our first 2 nights there during our trip to Costa Rica. Woke up to beautiful colorful birds outside our window. Breakfasts were wonderful. Everything so fresh. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The hotel is located in a beautiful spot where you can enjoy watching the birds . The breakfast is very nice and generous. If you want to walk to Santa Helena town it is about 25 min and the nearest restaurant is 5 min walk. The staff is super friendly. To improve the pillows are not very comfy, the cleaning of the bathroom and towels.

My wife and I enjoyed the serene surroundings of this comfortable lodge. The rooms are clean. The staff are friendly and many are fluent in English. The lodge has beautiful gardens to stroll among, with many kinds of wildlife visiting daily. We saw a coatimundi, an agouti, a squirrel, and many exotic birds, before we even left the property. Breakfast, included, offers three choices to suit any taste, and comes with homemade jam and a fresh fruit plate. Tea and coffee are offered free all day. We especially enjoyed the birds which arrived during our breakfast to eat the fruit set out for them by staff, and the antics of a squirrel determined to reach the feeding platform.

Great little place to stay surrounded by nature! In the morning they put out fruit on a bird table for you to watch the birds during breakfast which was a nice touch (breakfast is also very good here!). Motmot birds here are beautiful and I have not seen them anywhere else. We also saw a coati, agouti and various monkeys here 😀 take the nature trail around the grounds, it is not too long and very pleasant! Room a little small, but cosy, only negative would be lack of plug sockets to charge devices! Like that extra pillows were provided and the products available in the room were really nice (shampoo/conditioner/hand moisturiser etc) The shower here was AMAZING, so powerful! The best we had in Costa rica. Found it was not too warm at night without AC, we did not need the supplied fan as Monteverde is definitely a different climate to the rest of costa rica! we actually needed a cardigan here at times which we did not expect!! We arrived early but our room was ready for us after a very short wait which was much appreciated. The only downsides for me with this place was lack of restaurant/bar, I think the stay would be much more pleasant without having to worry about where to go out to eat for lunch and dinner, we walked to the main town for dinner one night and had food in the treehouse restaurant which I would recommend, but another evening we were very tired and ended up just not eating any dinner as did not want the bother of going out. Thought coffee and cake in the afternoons was a nice touch, thankyou! Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone :) very peaceful beautiful place x

The public areas and terraces of Cala Lodge look better than in the photos - the views over the valley are amazing - worth asking for a room facing the view with a balcony. Whilst sitting on the terrace we saw more wildlife than in Monteverde reserve - white faced capuchins, agoutis, hummingbirds, motmots (beautiful birds) etc. the staff are really welcoming and work hard to make your stay pleasant. We really enjoyed staying here - if I had constructive criticism it would be that the bedrooms need a small uplift as they do not necessarily match the quality of the rest of the hotel. Suggest replace timber headboards, sockets in suitable positions to charge stuff - we had to use bathroom shaver points. Small issues though, overall really good and would recommend.

Room Tip: The walk back from town (15 mins) is steep - we got fitter doing it but taxi is $5 if you need one

It was perfectly located, and the evening receptionist had really good suggestions. The breakfast was excellent and the views from the dining place were a great way to start your day! The beds were very very comfortable (which is not a given in Costa Rica!) and the view from the room was stunning! We saw lots of animals right in the property which added a lot to our experience.

Not my first time staying at Cala Lodge and won’t be my last! The front desk agent was super helpful and gave us personalized recommendations on where to eat and what to do during our stay. The breakfast was delicious and super quick. I love that they source their produce and soaps locally as well! The room was super clean and felt very luxurious, with many layers of soft bedding and an incredible shower! You have to check out the trails they have made surrounding the lodge as well! The location is super, you can walk to the butterfly sanctuary which I highly recommend. You will see tons of birds and other wildlife out at the deck while eating breakfast. All in all, making for an unforgettable experience. Love this place and love supporting a sustainable, Monteverde family-owned business!

What a beautiful, unique place to stay! All the rooms are a little different! Ours had a deck with some chairs that we could quietly sit and watch the wildlife go by! They have some fun trails with benches, swings and plenty of wildlife to see! Their made to order breakfasts are very delicious and they put fruit on a platform so the many variety of birds entertain you while you eat! They do a wonderful and reasonable job on laundry! If you don’t mind walking some steep hills, it isn’t too far to walk to town! There is a little grocery store nearby. There isn’t a bar or any entertainment in the evenings.
