As 4 Motorcyclists and pillions, we stayed here for 2 nights, for a weekend in mid-October, to enjoy the fantastic roads here and mid Wales. Mike, the landlord, was very accommodating and all of us were looked after superbly. The Hotel is very popular with fishermen and has its own beats on the Wye. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and...

I was one of 16 who stayed at the Red Lion to partake of the hospitality and fishing. It was a perfect base as it provided comfortable accomodation and nearby fishing. The breakfasts and evening meals were very good and the bar was very welcoming. The river was low but we all caught some fish and one of the group...

We go to this hotel every year and we stayed in August this year. surprisingly the hotel has had a face lift and a new menu!, but this didnt take away any charm from this olde worlde hostelry. We needed somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay whilst down in Hereford for a family wedding. After searching the area, we found the Red Lion, which was only five minutes from the wedding venue. Price was reasonable for what looked on Google like fairly basic accommodation and we were only in need of bed and a hearty breakfast. What a...

This is a small hotel with a block of accommodation units, set out very much like a US motel, but with a much smaller number of rooms. There is very little competition in the area, but that does not stop this venue from being excellent value and the manager is friendly and knowledgable about the area. Rooms are en suite...

This is a lovely place to stay. A beautiful rural setting well away from main roads but an easy drive to Hay on Wye. We booked three rooms for a family occasion and each one was very comfortable with lovely views. Excellent for walking and fishing. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we felt 'at home' in the best possible...

Another wonderful three night stay. Glorious weather to sit in the beautiful garden and just relax. The food, the beer and the company superb. Wander up to the church and then down to the river or visit Brobury House Gardens which are beautiful. Advise using the car as the entrance has a cattle grid which the dog jumped over to...

We're so glad we chose to stay here instead of in Hay itself. Don't get me wrong we love Hay and it's annual festival and usually stay close by, but staying at the Red Lion gave us chance to escape the crowds and explore some more of the area we'd not have seen otherwise. The hotel is an old country...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Red Lion Hotel is situated in the tiny hamlet of Bredwardine, which nestles on the banks of the River Wye just twelve miles from Hereford, and 8 miles from Hay-on-Wye.Built of red brick, its origins lie in the seventeenth century when it was used as a coaching inn, also the lounge bears the name The Courtroom. This is where the circuit judge of the day used to sit in judgement. Our aim at the hotel has been to provide you with a peaceful haven in the tranquil heart of England away from the hustle and bustle of work and every day life. Whilst every effort has been made to combine this warm, congenial atmosphere with all the comforts and facilities of a modem day hotel, you will find that the Red Lion retains much of its old world charm including oak beams, and beautiful antiques with blazing log fires through the winter months. The reputation of our dining-room relies on well prepared home-cooked food, using as much fresh produce as possible and cooked to order by our highly regarded chef. You can choose from a varied range of meals off our menus, whether its at breakfast, lunch time or in the evening and remember to look out for our "Specials" board.Whilst situated in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas in the country there are a whole host of things to do and enjoy. These include Herefords Cathedral and the famous Mappa Mundi exhibition to the local Small Breeds & Owl Centre and of course a visit to Herefordshire would not be complete without a trip to Bulmers Cider Museum and for the more active amongst us canoeing down the magnificent river Wye.What ever the reason for your visit we are here to help you enjoy your stay and our beautiful county. ... more   less
