Great place in a small beautiful village. Surrounding countryside is outstanding, plenty of walking from the Auberge. Food here is fantastic, five courses in the evening using local produce. Breakfast again is very good and plentiful. Host Peter is friendly and congenial. Good spot to stop overnight going either North or South.

An absolutely superb hotel with the kind of look and feel that you generally only get in arthouse cinema - the decor is stylish and beautiful but utterly understated; the village is gorgeous but totally untouristy; the location is peaceful and remote (we didn't pass a single car for the last twenty minutes of our journey). Sitting outside the front...

We had been recommended this place by friends who had visited previously and we were not disappointed. Previous reviews of the Auberge are spot on. Unfortunately we were only able to sample the delicious, unpretentious set menu on one evening as the restaurant isn't open on Sunday evenings. However, we brought our own picnic which we ate on the terrace...

I am almost frightened to write my review as I am afraid this gem will become so popular I won't be able to get in. We have visited this quiet, understated Auberge many times when it was run by Harry and Ali and we really loved it. Now, under the new owner Peter, it has shifted up a gear and...

I visited the Auberge de Chassignolles in early July with my wife and 6 month old baby. I would very much like to return as soon as possible as this place verges on paradise. Situated high up in the Livardois and surrounded by forests, Chassignolles is a small collection of houses clustered around a lovely 12th century church. Miles away...

This place is sooooo laid back you'll think you're asleep and dreaming about how wonderful it is! A group of us went for a late Sunday lunch and arrived at 2pm to find we had the whole restaurant to ourselves (admittedly, it's not exactly on the beaten track and the drive up the mountain means you really have to want...

…hated living in the country so much that she wanted to die…but she also wanted to live in Paris. Chassignolles makes you want to live in the country, despite Paris. The countryside round and about is heavily wooded, interspersed with luxuriant meadows and after a decent dose of rain, many brooks and streams. However, to get to Chassignolles you have...

The other reviews have used up all the superlatives, and the pictures tell the story. If you are after a peaceful stay in a friendly, laid-back auberge that provides wonderful simple food that is precisely prepared, then this is for you. There is real beauty in the minimal, understated and casual decoration and furnishing. The bar is intimate, is frequented...

Having been to Peter Taylor's Riverstation restaurant and Bar Buvette in Bristol, UK (both excellent), we were interested to see if his Auberge was up to the same fine standards. Without a doubt it was. We stayed for one night only on our way to the south of France, and would loved to have stayed longer. The set menu evening...

Sunday lunch, home made Pate excellent none of the sloppy industrial type. Superb fresh bread. (Always rate a French Restaurant by its bread, says the locals!) Lovely fresh spring veg with our Guinea Fowl. Auvergne cheeses then ice cream Profiteroles. Good choice of wines to drink throughout the meal.
