All in all, we had a fantastic stay – and the value for money was excellent.

Rooms – Although a little dated, they’re absolutely fine. Had plenty of TV channels (Most of which can be switched into English) so kids kept happy, and the Aircon was great. Room was always nice and cool. Minibar restocked daily with a few cans of pop, bottles of water and a couple of beers. Cleaners made/changed beds and towels changed daily.

Kids Club – Wow, it’s really really good. Our 4 and 9 year old girls loved it. They were always doing activities, crafts, games and they put on a show every other day in the Theatre, which the girls loved being part of. You can simply drop them and pick them up when you like, no need to book – It just worked around how we all wanted to plan our days. They take them swimming and to the splash park too. It has a large air conditioned room, and it’s own play area. Shout out to Larry the Iguana who lives just outside the entrance! All the staff made the girls feel really welcome and they thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with the team there.

Pools – Theres plenty of choice! 1 Large pool with swim up bar in the quiet area – so no games or activities going on there. Couple of larger pools with something always going on from the entertainment teams. Another large pool with bar (Look out for the Pool foam party at 12pm on Fridays here – Great fun).

Each of the pools has jacuzzi area’s and there’s also a couple of dedicated jacuzzi only pools which were slightly heated. Kids splash pool with slides etc was also very good. Lots of choice. Loads of loungers and shaded area’s.

Food – Although there are around 10 different restaurants you can book into (Throughout the 3 Bahia Principe Hotels on site), we could only manage to book into 3 of them during our 11 night stay as they were all booked up which was a shame and a bit disappointing to be fair, but the main Buffet is really good with plenty of choices and different themed areas. We had no complaints at all regarding the food – it was excellent.

The snack bar (Which was open throughout the day, and then open on evenings after the main buffet closes at 10pm) was a bit basic with no that much choice, but it was OK to grab a quick bite.

We were very disappointed that the advertised ‘Food Truck’ area was completely closed and not open at all during our stay. This was our main issue with our holiday – and although it didn’t spoil it, we were highly disappointed.

The Teppanyaki was very entertaining – Defo book into that one!

The Italian also was very nice serving Fillet of Beef.

One thing to note, and my advise to the hotel – At breakfast, cook more sausage and bacon. This was often empty, and when refilled emptied very quickly again. 50% of the time I ended up having a veggies breakfast as I didn’t want to stand around 15-20 mins waiting for bacon whilst the rest of my food was going cold and the kids were getting bored at the table.

Drinks – Although not your named brand spirits, the drinks were very good. All soft drinks are Coke brands, and orange/fruit juices very nice. The wife may have had a Mimosa or 3 also.

No complaints at all – Plenty of places to get drinks and never any large queues.

Halloween & Day of the Dead – This is a little bit of a double edge sword. We loved being here over this period, as the hotel really does go all out. The whole place was decorated and lots of themed drinks and food. It was a fantastic experience.

The downside was over this 3 days, the hotel was very busy, and almost felt too busy in the buffet etc. I know it’s a different culture than the UK – but the local people staying weren’t exactly friendly, or willing to queue like us Brits. All the staff were super friendly throughout our stay, and after the 3 days of Halloween and Day of the dead, the place quietened back to normal. Please don’t let this put you off, Halloween and Day of the Dead is a great time to be in Mexico and was a great experience.

The Hotel is full of wildlife – Iguana’s, Gecko’s, Coati’s (Mexican Racoons), Capybara’s & loads of different types of birds are all over the hotel – We loved it and the kids loved it. Probably not the place for you if you hate animals – Although they were never inside the buffet or anything. A massive Iguana lived in the tree outside our room (Room 32914), and we loved seeing him everyday.

Loads of Golf buggy trains around so don’t be put off that this hotel isn’t right on the beach. All inclusive beach bar was OK, as was the beach. Not the best we’ve been to, but was OK.

There’s also a central Market type area where there is also an all inclusive bar, and they did quote a few events there like kids disco’s etc. Made for a nice change of location.

Lots of music acts in the main courtyard – and loads of shows in the Theatre. The Magic show was absolutely brilliant (Much better than you’d think it was going to be).

All in all – We had a great stay and would recommend this hotel.

I’m writing this review to inform travellers of what they can expect at the Coba resort. This is NOT a four star experience. At most I would give it three stars.
Rooms in building 14 are full of mould. The beds are very firm. We needed a dehumidifier in our room the entire trip to keep the moldy smell away. Two rooms in our group found very large cockroaches in their drawers and bathrooms. Manager spoke with us after numerous complaints. The manager we spoke with was unwilling to hear about what mattered to us, he would best better suited as a cleaner. He is not good with people at all!

The main buffet was closed. Each morning we had to travel to Tulum for the main buffet. I refused to eat at Cozumel buffet. It was dirty, hot and the service sub par. Later in our week we found out the Mediterranean restaurant was also open for buffet breakfasts. No one told us!! Having decent service at that restaurant and quality food within a few minutes walk allowed us to enjoy the mornings, but only two.

We didn’t use our alla carte dinners. They were booked for us and even though we booked as a group we were all separated and they would not do anything about it. The main buffet at Tulum had great food and great selection.

Be advised the resort is large. We put on over 15,000 steps just walking where we needed to go. The carts used for transportation were usually full. People just budged to get on leaving our large family waiting with young children. It will take at least two days to get yourselves oriented.

The beach is no where close. There is no pool service and no food allowed near the pools. I do not recommend Coba location to any travellers looking for high quality service, accommodations or ocean setting.

If you book a standard room you get standard or below standard service. What made our trip was the memories we created.

Last year we enjoyed a family vacation with our four daughters at Coba, and this year returned as a couple. Both times we booked ten days out and got great deals on vacation packages.
The rooms were bright and clean, and the AC was perfect. The mattresses are firm, but you can ask for a pillowtop cover.

The resort is sprawling but the trolleys are great, and I enjoyed walking around and seeing all the critters.
I loved the beach, and the break created a nice wading area even when the red flag was up.
This year the Wi-Fi was much better and it had decent speed all over the resort.

We found the Hacienda to be priced well and more relaxed versus the aggressive merchants in Playa del Carmen.

Bring insect repellant - you’re in the jungle and those jerks sneak into your room whenever you open the patio door!

I enjoyed the buffet for brunch (Mauricio we love you), the snack bar for afternoon snack (Rosa you are lovely), and either the buffet or a la carte for dinner.

We got engaged this trip! The Matis shop in the Coba lobby arranged a free ride to their larger store up the highway to find my perfect ring. We will be returning to the Akumel for the wedding in December.

Overall we found Coba to be a fantastic value for the price.

I highly recommend bringing a stack of USD $1 and always having some on you, and taking the time to chat up the staff. Remember that they make very little compared to our wages and your tips go a long way to feeding their families. And many of them love to tell you about themselves. We tipped $5 on the bed every morning and our room was spotless and well stocked every day. $1-3 every meal and we had Baileys and coffee on our brunch table within a minute of sitting down, elaborate floral and napkin arrangements reserved just for us, and whole mangos on a plate (when you couldn't find them at the buffet). The groundskeepers will open the top of a coconut for you to drink (if you can find them in the morning). When we had kids with us, tips got us extra bags of chips. Sometimes the trolley driver can make a detour for you. Be generous with smiles, kindness and a little cash and you’ll upgrade your own experience.

Victoriano and Miseal helped us at the front desk very polite and great customer service
Walked us to room very informative
Mango tango the best slushy alcohol beverage and their Frappuccino is sooo good
Circus show was amazing!
Buffet good. Breakfast is so yummy don’t miss out
Silent disco is a must was so much funnn peanuts they serve u while your out there we’re so yummy
Tulum beautiful pool bar area
Don Pablo amazing don Pablo salad I loved cheese bread yummy yummy and the steak was amazing
Mikado yummy miso soup and we loved the chicken curry and pad Thai especially the filet mignon in the pad Thai was so tender and juicy
Mikado tepanki was so yummy they cook in front of you fried rice and your choice of meats
Denise at guest services helpful with tulum tickets to pool Expedia location restaurant reservation even though had 5 already sent us a letter to our room accommodating us to a sixth restaurant for our stay
Read reviews before going and said we would have access to tulum pool and water parks but not the buffet but I guess things have changed because if you are staying at coba u do not have access but you can pay to get tickets about 15 dollars each person to have access to the water park at tulum also
Beach was nice and clean beautiful not too many people just the right amount and jet sking was fun
Booked a covid test at guest services in the hotel and had to go to the premier lobby to take the test they did it very nicely just tickled. Also, if you wanna save time scan the square at guest services so you can sign whoever is getting tested in with passport numbers and everything before going to actually get the test done at the premier lobby.

Cons- rooms can be updated and water leaks all in the bathroom
If you decide to get a day pass to tulum for they’re water park or pools you can only do this on your last day or two of your stay or else you would have to pay for all the days left of your stay. For example it is 15 dollars a person and 7.50 for a child a day so that is 37.50 a day. Now that being said you can pay that amount per day the last day or two before your stay ONLY to have access to the pools or else you have to pay for all of the days left. So we wanted to go there oN Saturday when we were leaving that coming Thursday and they told us we have to go on Wednesday or else if we wanted to go today we have to pay for today Sunday Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.

We stayed here late last year and it was the worst holiday I have ever Had. Our original booking was with Thomas Cook for a fabulous resort, but we decided to book a holiday here rather than lose out on a holiday at that time completely. We wished we'd saved the money!

Dated and dangerous falling apart room; the light fitting was held on by silicone and was falling off, my partner leaned lightly on the balcony railing and it came away from the wall. When we looked at it, it was held together with only inch long wooden dowling rods.

Terrible, leftover, luke warm food. There were some very lovely servers though, they were the only staff that made us feel welcome the entire stay apart from the girl who checked us in. Couldn't get any restaurant reservations so can't comment.

Beach has unsightly water breaks, no tropical paradise view there.

Couldn't find much to do, the entertainment was awful, repetitive and budget.

Rude concierge who was snappy at me when I asked if he could please print an email for me, even accused me of pulling a face at him when I leaned over to look at his screen as he complained he 'couldn't do it'. Was I the first to ever request an email printed? Honestly.

At the end of our stay another couple told us about how they were getting miniature spirits in their room, but the whole time we felt like we were begging for enough coffee every day. Multiple days we got back to the room and nothing had been topped up despite leaving great tips. The tipping obviously stopped at that point.

The pool actually had thick lines of scum around the edges which we witnessed just being scrubbed off back into the water with a stiff brush. There were cracked tiles around the pool bar and the pool bar bins smelt atrocious. I understand that it's hot but change them and clean them more regularly if you expect guests to have to sit next to them.

I was bruised by the masseuse, told by the TUI rep it would be sorted, and yet still charged 200USD on checkout. Rude manager said he had had no complaint and accused me of making it up to get a free massage!

We documented all these issues with the TUI rep in resort and yet absolutely nothing was done about any of them. They just didn't care.

We left not even wanting to ever return to a Mexico. It's a shame because away from the resort we had a lovely time, but in the resort we couldn't find anything to warrant even 3 stars.

We went for a week in March as covid -19 started. It was a crazy experience but the resort went above and beyond for this unique time in history. For example Every restaurant and shop had hand sanitizer you had to put on upon entry/exit. The trolly from the beach stopped at sanitizing stations as well.

The resort itself is gigantic but there are lots of trolleys and staff in large golf carts to drive you if you don’t want to walk.

The beach is immaculate with tons of loungers. Big wave breakers keep it calm so you can float or snorkel. The snorkeling was awesome and we were surprised at how many fish there were and how many different species. Also there are no guys harassing you to buy things. So you can drink and relax in peace.

The wedding was perfect. The staff were awesome and took care of every request. The beach wedding , dinner and beach party reception went flawless. From music to food it was perfect.

There are 3 large pool areas. One big one is mostly adults and the other has all the kids, families and pool games/entertainment.

We only went to one restaurant since we loved the buffet and were there with 50 people.
It was the Japanese restaurant where the cook in front of you. Our chef had the best knife and cooking skills I’ve ever seen.

There is a free dolphin show by the beach every day at noon.
There is entertainment every night and the performers are incredibly talented. Very good singers and dancers and they are not hard on the eyes either ;)

This resort is 1.5 hours from the airport

Overall this resort is top notch and we would 100% return.

We were housed in building 29 which we felt was a great location however, my husband and I was not so happy with our stay at Coba. We had a few issues with the room we stayed in and the issues went unaddressed during our stay. First off there was a leak in bathroom near the toilet. The phone did not work so we were unable to utilize room service. After a hot shower, steam revealed writing on the mirror from previous guest. We asked maid service to clean it but she never did. Our towels weren’t changed unless we left them all on the floor.
There was no mini bar the room. Also this resort places limits on how many Dinner reservations you can make during your stay.
Guest are Limited to 3 ala cater reservations with 7 night stay. Only two reservations allowed for guest studying less than 7 nights.
The buffets consisted of exactly the same meals every day. There was very little options for people who don’t eat pork. The beef that was available was undercooked. The staff who worked the pool area was very pleasant, they did a good job of entertaining during the day. We have been a fan of the Bahia brand for many years however we will not revisit this resort nor would we suggest it to anyonke.

The resort overall is not bad, but very run down and super short staffed (I feel bad for the staff). Usually you see everyone smiling, but not this time :(
Check in was pretty long and we were given 2 towel cards (yep you get only one beach towel per person). Rooms are outdated, AC barely cooling to 23 Celsius and we had to use fan all the time. Linens and bathroom towels seen better days, but on the good note our room was cleaned well. Toiletries were basic (shower gel, shampoo and hair conditioner) so plan to bring body lotion. Water pressure almost non existent and we had to wait good 15min for it to warm up. Btw be careful in the balcony…one of rails was very loose and I was afraid that it will fall down.
Pools…there are 2 main pools. One w music, water slides and activities, and another one is divided in 2 parts and much quieter. There were plenty of lounge chairs with unmovable umbrellas:) so you had to move from one lounge chair to another in order to stay in the shade. The most disappointing about the pool was the water itself…very warm, almost impossible to cool off, and very shallow (I’m 5’0…so pretty much it was my waist deep). Pool bar was ok…alcohol in the drinks almost non existent:)
Now the food…there is one buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then 4 or 5 a la carte restaurants (you allowed to have only 3 reservations) and a snack bar by the kids pool (and you not allowed to take food to another pool). Food overall was ok…a la carte restaurants maybe bit better, but nothing memorable.
Covid rules are imposed, you have to wear a mask at the restaurants, buffet and shared common areas. We were absolutely fine w that!
Btw be ready to encounter a lot of tourists from mother Russia, Poland, Germany, France, UK, India and Brazil. That was my main issue (not resorts fault)…I didn’t know that Mexico is letting tourist in from countries with very high numbers of COVID. It’s just mind blowing.
A big pro…is the price, it was very cheap (maybe that’s why a lot of foreign tourist chose this resort). Also few years ago we stayed at their sister resort Sian Khan and we had absolutely different experience…so we were hoping for the same. Oh and you not allowed to go to any sister resorts (Akumal or Tulum) unless you have priority pass or smth similar to that.

This was our first time to Mexico. We traveled with another family. My kids 11 and 7, the other family 7 and 5.
I had written to The resort one month before visiting to ask to be in a specific villa which is close to everything ie; the waterpark for the kids, the pools the lobby, the theater and the the new buffet that had opened up. The management responded to me saying that they will do their best and they pulled through and we were in prime location we were in Villa 21 which was literally a 30 second walk to everywhere minus the beach.
The food was excellent breakfast lunch and dinner we had three à la carte. we took the French which was very nice the Italian which was extremely slow service. The kids did not make it through the dinner. they Slept before we can actually got our meal it was too long. The Japanese was great if you take the Japanese asked to have it with the show it is wonderful.
I did find the service little slow if we are asked for a café or a coffee or whatever kind of drink they really did take their time getting the drinks so self serve a better option none of us they were very nice people we had no issues with that.
They had a kids club scouts my children and my friends children did not attend and apparently the kids shows were really gear to the kids that are in the scouts club so my kids did not enjoy the kids show at night the adult show was a mix of everything they had a great circus show magic show back to the 80s 90s so a mix of everything for everyone and then after that they would have band Latina in the lobby which was really nice people can dance and enjoy a drink.
The beach was ok. This has absolutely nothing to do with the resort itself but worth mentioning. There was seaweed but nothing too bad we could get into the water and there were fish in the water and the kids enjoyed that.
The only downfall would’ve been the room it was very humid and damp the sheets felt wet when we went inside and a couple of days and it would actually hurt our bones.

I would like to mention we did an excursion with Go natural explorers . We were with Sergio and Lalo they were amazing and funny. They took us to The Mayan ruins then from there we went to snorkel in an actual open beach to wear a private homes are. We went to a cenote Where we actually swam inside the cave and it was quite the experience and I recommend everyone to visit. this was in Tulum, 25 minutes away from the hotel.
Lalo was truly a great guide and shared all the information he had and was able to answer all the questions that we had he made it very memorable for both the adults and the kids
I would also like to say that we had a wonderful waiter At the buffet named Omar. He was very kind and sweet. My kids still mention him and say that we miss Omar . We would always sit out his section of the table so if you go there ask for Omar.
It is a great resort for first time in Mexico we were not disappointed very clean and very nice so I definitely would recommend it

Did a quick getaway, just the wife and I. Wasn’t able to book a decent time for the restaurants (10pm was to late for use so didn’t bother lol) so we just went to the buffet every day! Food was great lots of options and always topped up when empty. Pool area’s were very clean and relaxing saw the staff cleaning sun chairs and pool area every night. Beach area was very clean and nice. Room was a nice size and clean but showing a little age.

The hotel is set back from the beach but was only a 5min walk or a free ride in large golf cart that run every 10 minutes or so to most areas in all 3 hotels.

I would recommend taking ur own cup with lid for drinks as the cups they have are very small and they have no problem filling ur own larger cups.

We want to travel to Cosamo by the ferry, is it easy to do of your own back? Thanks Shel

Hi Shelmac, do you mean Cozumel? There is a ferry you can catch from Playa del Carmen and you can buy tickets on the road leading down to the ferry. It takes less than an hour. It depends what you want to do when you get over there, may be better with a hire car. When are you travelling?
