We only had "BBQ dinner" in the Black Horse saloon - following a recommendation of our host at the Blue Grouse Country Inn. They are connected - what they do not reaveal, but it is obvious as soon as you hear the strong Austrian accent... At the Black Horse Saloon we got bad, overpriced food - starting with a ridiculous...

We had no idea we were staying here our daughter who lives in Canada booked it...we were delighted it was fabulous! A real ranch atmosphere, wooden buildings, open fields and beautiful horses roaming around. We have nothing like this in Australia!!! Yes the dinners were a bit boring but it was different sitting in the wagons to eat..the breakfasts were...

I'll admit I was a bit nervous about our stay here having read some rather negative reviews. However, we were all delighted with our stay. Yes it's basic - but surely that's the charm of the place! We found the staff friendly and helpful. The location is stunning. The absolute highlight of our stay was the hiking / canoeing taster...

Beautiful ranch type lodge, with tons of space, real horses. I am not sure if i should rate very good or average... The setting is top, the service zero. The restaurant is only open early evening with the same menu everyday, bbq. The breakfast is very basic. Luckily the area is nice, beautiful waterfalls starting from 20 mn away till...

My wife and I drove from Jasper back to Vancouver and decided to spend one night at Wells Gray Guest Ranch. We thought it might be a great potential place for a family reunion. Boy, were we wrong!! The location is beautiful, the cabins are quaint, and the saloon cool...but there was absolutely no personality! The cabins were furnished with...

We stopped here for one night on a driving holiday heading east from Victoria to Calgary. This time we decided to do the Kamloops to Jasper route but wanted to stay somewhere in between. There aren't many places to stop along that section of the highway so when we saw this place it looked like a great place to try....

We had lunch at the Black Horse Saloon on a recent visit to Wells Gray Park. We were not staying at the ranch, so this review only reflects the food at the ranch. The setting was cute, with it's kitch western styling and decor, but fun. The menu was limited but there was some tempting choices. I ordered a grilled...

My husband and I from the UK have been lucky enough to visit Canada three times over the past several years and twice we have stayed here, the second time because we liked it so much the first time! I do not know if it is still owned by the same people so maybe things have changed over the last...

A wonderful snowshoeing and dog sledding mother/daughter trip was so exciting and adventurous that the following winter went back with my husband and did the overnight dog sledding to a luxurious cabin deep in Wells Grey Park as well as a very full day of snowmobiling. The dog sledding is especially something you will not forget. Cabins are private, clean...

Excellent Stay, very friendly staff, winter wonderland off the beaten track in snowy conditions. Unique Dog Sledding experience (not a commercial enterprise like Sun Peaks or Revelstoke). Personal Service. Absolutely fantastic little wood cabins.... Loved our stay, would recommend to anyone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
WESTERN HOSPITALITY ON A GUEST RANCH AT THE ENTRANCE TO BEAUTIFUL WELLS GRAY PARK Despite the rapid growth of its urban centers, much of Western Canada is still untamed frontier. One of those areas is the Wells Gray Park, 5200 sq. kilometer of protected wilderness in Central British Columbia. Bounded on the north and east by the Cariboo Mountains, and on the west by an upland plateau, the Wells Gray Park encompasses a broad spectrum of mountain scenery. The area is abundant in flora and fauna. Caribou, moose, black bear, beaver and wolf freely roam the park, and local streams are well stocked with trout. Horseback riding, fishing, mountain biking, river rafting, hiking and canoeing into the local wilderness are all part of the ranch's daily summer routine. In the winter the most popular activities are dog-sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and wildlife viewing. Your skilled guide will lead you to adventures on remote mountains, valleys and lakes in a setting as spectacular as it is challenging ... more   less
