Hard to sleep when the bed smells like fish! We were in a fish bowl room on the bottom floor, we had to close all our curtains or everyone in the parking lot could see straight in. The room is dated and tired. We were put in a room with an interleading door to another room and we could hear them on the phone etc. The rooms are not sound proof so you can hear everyone that comes and goes as well as noise on the road. Light from the passage floods in under the room door. The worst part is that the sheets on the bed stink like sour fish. Can't wait to leave here.

Reception not welcoming when we arrived. We felt like sheep being herded from the office into our room. Reception didn't offer site seeing or the like. The room was in need of repairs - damaged and cracked walls, missing window latches/locks. The toilet seat was cracked, the spa was worn and cracked. Paint peeling from walls in the bathroom and the fridge cupboard was falling apart. This is a mid-priced establishment but provided dated and worn accommodation - see attached pics

Beware of the photos showing a wonderful environment! Those are the refurbished units which look very nice but the rest of the complex is rundown, dirty, broken parts, carpet pulled apart at seams, wooden joinery in a state of bad disrepair. Cleaning is sub standard. There is NO lift. It is all old fashioned and way past its prime. The owners are foreign and absentee people who appear to have NO idea of how bad this is. They put managers in place to take all the blame for their neglect. Shame on the owners !! Take responsibility for your investment and bring it up to superior standards as it used to be. The only way this will improve is for NO ONE to pay to go to such a place !!! It is also located right beside a busy street which is noisy in the early mornings and evenings of week days.

We booked for two nights at this Motor Inn. On arrival we went in the office and rang the buzzer and waited, and waited, and waited. Rang the buzzer again and waited some more until a rather grumpy woman arrived to check us in. We went to our room via the swimming pool entrance which was dirty and grimy and rather smelly. Our room was surprisingly clean but I consider in very poor repair. It has obviously been cheaply updated but had holes in the ceiling, door stop just sitting on the floor with a hole in the wall where it should have been. The toilet seat too small for the toilet pan. In the kitchen no tea towel or dish cloth. We went out all day and when we arrived back in the evening our beds were not made, no fresh towels, clearly no room service had taken place even though that was part of the deal. I would not recommend this place to anybody, it is damp, it is very untidy and rather grubby on the outside. The inside is the same with a towel laying on the floor outside the door of one unit to be used as a door mat. Really not good. Also, the walls are very thin. We were woken early by a rather enthusiastic couple in the room next door. OMG better than an argument I guess but still I would rather not have to hear that.

Mid week level 2 stay, late check-in went fine, however getting out was an issue. Fire doors were locked and could not exit the building. Further, Door lock in the room ironically wouldn't lock, iron was burnt and shelving was grubby. No sky, no ac, grubby. Service was however friendly and directed me to the pool as an exit over the phone so I could make my morning meeting.

We got a Grabeone deal to this hotel, which has been rebranded as The Carnmore. It was over $330 for two nights and the photos looked lovely.

In fact it is all in 50/50 mid major repair with cracked and peeling shared spaces, hilarious basement 'gym' facility with 3 pieces of rusty equipment and a shared shower open to the room with no lock on the space!

Our bedroom was warm, dry and comfortable though, and mostly refurbished. However it was oddly unfinished with cracked door to the bathroom, no shower door or towel rails. And it's really not a 'studio' as it doesn't have cooking facilities, just the usual hotel kettle and small fridge, microwave and a toaster.

The wider space smells mouldery due to sodden hessian on the bank where they're trying to get things to grow combined with the rotten carpet throughout the main halls and old rooms that are being re-done.

It is also on a main road, with mostly views of either the street or car park. So just be aware it's not a cosy hideaway. Great walking distance to Takapuna Centre though. And as said was warm, dry and friendly.

I just don't think they should be charging that much for something that is in such a transitional state. We felt a bit let down as it was a 10th wedding anniversary treat for us.

Not to worry - warm and dry plus Olympics on tap did us alright in the end :)

Unfortunately this accommodation has deteriorated since I last stayed here approximately 10 years ago. The room I had was damp with condensation running down the windows at 4:00 pm in the afternoon and the room needs seriously maintenance. Mold on the hair dryer switch, dirty hand marks on paintwork by shower and stains on the bed spread.
On the positive side the bed was comfortable and it is in a great location for wondering into town for an evening meal.

This place is a hazard to peoples health. Mouldy walls in the rooms and bathrooms, damp, musty carpet. Cleaning doesnt appear to happen here as there was thick dust on all the skirtings, around the windows etc. The air in the rooms is awful, makes it hard to breathe as its so musty. Pool was green and unuseable! Building is a leaky building so these problems are not going to go away! Manager didnt care, gave us $35 back and basically brushed us off. Dont go here, I have stayed in backpackers and campgrounds that are 100 times cleaner than this place!

The staff were friendly and the booking was easy to make. The room was clean and tidy but had a strong bleach smell. The bathroom window (being ceiling to floor) was interesting as it was mirrored glass so no one can see in. However at night once the light was turned on it was clear like a normal window and everything on the inside was quite visible. The blind didn't really cover the full window as well. Owners will need to look at some improvements.

Whoever gave this place two stars is being way too generous. This is one of the worst hotels/motels I've ever stayed at and thankfully it was only one night. Wow...where to start. The front door lock is wobbly. It still locks ok though this was the very first thing that I saw and I immediately knew it would go downhill. Carpet stinks, is in 2-3 parts and not stuck down properly so it gathers. My husband and daughter both locked themselves in the bathroom by shutting the door as simply closing the door seems to lock it. The room needs a good clean and ants live in the bathroom. Bathroom blind leaves gaps either side which means anyone walking past can glimpse you wiping your bum. Bathroom sink had hairs from previous guest around tap, mould in shower and the toilet stinks like it wasn't cleaned before we arrived. The only thing going for this place is location. If you're planning to come back blind drunk then it might just be acceptable. Otherwise find a better place.
