The Salt Shaker Deli and Inn, is one of Lunenburg's most beloved destinations for local residents and visitors alike. Award winning dishes prepared with fresh local ingredients from the Deli makes staying upstairs in the cozy four room Inn an easy choice. Newly renovated rooms with breathtaking views of the historic Lunenburg harbour. Please note that like most other accommodations in this Unesco town, we do not have a parking lot so the option is street parking or the town's waterfront lot. Also, we are located on the second floor and are currently unable to accommodate mobility issues.

Detailed Reviews
There are not too many choices in winter in Lunenburg. Either the pub, a few family restaurants or Salt Shaker Deli. Don't get fooled by the name. It is not like a Montreal or Toronto deli, although you can get pizzas and sandwiches. They also have good dinner choices and their lunches are pretty good, too. My wife had the pear and brie pizza, which she enjoyed. I ordered the warm kale salad (with walnuts, veggies and cheese melted on top). The dressing gave it a delicate flavour and the kale was cooked but still had a crunch. I really loved the final flavour mix. I also had the minestrone soup and although I could not place the flavour that was different, it was not what I expected and I did not really enjoy it too much. The meal with a glass of wine for one of us and a soft drink for the other was about $60 with tip and taxes. Not bad these days where it is easy to spend over $100 and not be happy!

We spent 2 nights at this inn in a king view suite with town view. Our room was comprised of 2 floors. First floor had a small kitchenette (including hot plate and microwave), small table with 2 chairs, sleeper sofa and small TV for streaming.
Upstairs had a comfortable king bed, larger TV, bathroom with large tub and separate shower. Plush robes were provided.
The upstairs had a window-AC unit. Downstair had a floor fan.
The bathroom is a bit dated and felt like it needed a thorough fall cleaning. Not that our room was not clean. Just not sparkling clean.
To enter our room required walking up a flight of stairs. Then to reach the bedroom required ascending a second flight of stairs. So if mobility issues are a concern, this room would not be a good option.
On our second night, we could hear our neighbors a little bit but it was not disruptive. We did not hear any restaurant noise.
The location of the inn is in the heart of little Lunenburg, within an easy walk of restaurants, shops and waterfront. A grocery store, Foodland, is a 5-minute walk directly east of the inn.
Finding on-street parking on a side street was not a big issue. But it would be helpful if the inn provided suggestions on where to look so one’s arrival is a little more organized.
We had a delicious dinner at the downstairs restaurant. It is not open for breakfast.
We took an excellent one-hour walking tour and also walked along the Bay-to-Bay Trail around the perimeter of the town, maybe 3 miles.

We read a lot of great reviews that convinced us to book here. The standard of the service and the furnishing and decor are very good. Our room was appointed very well and we enjoyed a fantastic view over the harbour. The bed was comfy and I had a great nights sleep.
However, there are some touches that frustrated me. There were cobwebs in the main hall and in the bathroom where there was also a very visible thick layer of dust. This isn’t rustic, it’s just dirty. I’m also very much not a fan of shower curtains and soap bars, which I understand is very much a North American thing, however I’d much rather some eco-conscious refillable soaps and shampoo would have been provided.
This hotel is good but has the potential to be even better!

We stopped in for lunch when we visited Lunenberg and were charmed by the whimsical artwork displayed and the clean, inviting atmosphere of this restaurant. Certainly not a typical deli, the seafood chowder was delicious, as were the lobster rolls. The portions were very generous and the service excellent. Highly recommend when visiting this quaint, historic town.

Sunday evening, waited 1,5 hr for a table for 2 so had great expectations. Unfortunately, it took 40 min to get 2 main courses and on paper the scallops linguini and seafood stew sounded great but both were under seasoned and the flavors were just not there. Mine had bitter roasted garlic. Big disappointment. We could tell the table next to us weren't excited with their pizzas either.

My family of 4 had a really great meal here during our multi-day visit to Lunenburg. We each ordered different meals and you could taste the care, balance and quality brought to each dish. Everything we ordered was delicious and each plate went back empty! Highly recommend! Thank you to the cooks and staff for a great meal.

This was my first time in Lunenburg but definitely not my last. The Salt Shaker Deli is a great little place to enjoy fresh seafood with a view of the harbour. The service was prompt , the staff incredibly friendly and the restaurant and bathrooms extremely clean. We sat on the back deck, where we could soak up some of the only rays of sunshine during our visit.
This place is on the Chowder Trail so if you are looking for a stamp in your passport, please stop here. You will not be disappointed. This was, by far, some of the best seafood chowder I've eaten. Ever. Full Stop. They should win an award. Durty Nelly's touts their chowder as "award winning" but clearly, the judges did not have a bowl of Salt Shaker's soup that day. Please visit this gem in the heart of Lunenburg.

We came here on a recommendation from locals. Very clean establishment and hospitable staff. We had the pan fried haddock and seafood pizza. The haddock was great but the flavour profile of the seafood pizza wasn’t to my tasting. I’ll have to order something different next time. All in all, a pleasant lunch with fresh food and kind service. Very nice experience!

Amazing service. The attention to detail is superb. As 2 former servers it is difficult to wow us, this FOH staff wow’d us, didn’t hurt that the food was great too. The town of Lunenburg seems to have a lot of tourist traps… this isn’t one of them.

Check in was easy at the deli below the rooms. A flight of stairs up to the room but not particularly difficult. The room was beautifully decorated with a small but more than adequate bathroom with a good shower. The view from the room across the harbour was amazing. The bed was very comfortable and we both enjoyed a good sleep. Relatively little storage for clothes, but as we were there only for one night, that was not a problem. I would definitely stay again if in Lunenburg.
