The Rum Runner Inn has garnered acclaim for its impeccable cleanliness and the welcoming environment it maintains. Guests have repeatedly lauded the service, noting the staff's exceptional attention and assistance. While the inn's amenities, including the well-appointed rooms and stunning balcony views, are often praised, a few guests have pointed to spotty Wi-Fi and parking challenges.
Its prime location is a highlight for visitors, offering convenient proximity to local attractions and eateries. Despite some noise and decor that could use updating, the rooms are generally cherished for their comfort and historical appeal. The inn is considered to provide good value, with most guests satisfied by the pricing and views, contributing to the inn's overall cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Detailed Reviews
The Nova Scotia Summer Fest Kitchen Party Tour used the Rum Runner for our cast and crew of 12 for our Lunenburg stop on August 19 & 20, 2021. In a time where cleanliness is under the microscope more than ever, the Rum Runner delivered by providing a safe environment in their lobby and rooms. With regards to the rooms and over all quality, our crew collectively agreed the Rum Runner was the perfect choice. High scale mattresses meant a great sleep, spacious rooms meant a comfortable stay and the balconies provided a nice social space for the crew. The fees are reasonable and management went out of their way in advance of our arrival to be sure we could check in with ease and be immediately comfortable. When travelling and working on such a tight schedule, these factors are what makes a hotel stay exceptional. Rum Runner is exceptional.

We went for a Valentine's Day weekend and we enjoyed our stay so much... we returned for a another weekend! Our room was spotless, well maintained, and the enclosed balcony/sunroom overlooking the harbour made our stay. The bed was top notch and the water pressure in the shower could knock you off your feet. My kind of shower!
Location is conveniently close to restaurants and shops.

Was outstanding. First, I thought I was going to have trouble parking, we got there in the afternoon and there was no parking on the street but the receptionist saved us a spot. You know the owner and staff use their vehicles to save places for the guests to be able to park near the inn. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. She gave us our key, offered to give us a hand with our bags, showed us to our door, and when we asked where to eat, because their kitchen is under renovations, she gave us recommendations and directions. There is like a dozen restaurants all within walking distance. The room we had was really nice. It was nice, clean and spotless. It had a walk out veranda with the view of the harbor and Bluenose 2. After we put our bags in our room and decided where to eat, we decided to check out the town and we ran into the owner on our way out. He was very welcoming. Tim was such a delight, he gave us some suggestions for some things to do while in town. He was right that was fun, a horse n buggy ride around town was a fun way to see the town. We were there a couple of days, so we ventured around town and a couple of places nearby that Tim told us about. He probably heard the same stories a hundred times but sat and listened to my husband and I as we told him where we went and what we saw. He spoke to us like we were an old friend or relative. And the staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay. I would recommend staying here and I cant wait to go back.

This inn is over priced and dated. It should be no more than $80/night.
The owner is friendly and it’s fairly clean, but the room smelled of must and the air exchange system runs constantly and is so noisy it’s difficult to sleep. The furniture is old and worn.
The sun room is not private and essentially useless.
It is centrally located in Lunenburg, but Lunenburg is small, so everything is centrally located.

We stayed at the Inn in October for our mini staycation. We wanted to get away for a couple days to relax and unwind and since it isn't a great time to travel very far, we decided Lunenburg would be a great place to see some sights and kick up our feet. We booked a king room with a beautiful view of the harbor overlooking the Fisheries Museum. Absolutely gorgeous view! And the host was fantastic! The service was great during our stay. We were met on the street personally by the owner as we approached and were made to feel
very welcome right away. The room was quite large and very clean. Really enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it. Everything you need for food and drink is within walking distance as well as some beautiful sights to see. We will be back for another "staycation"!

Best location in the heart of Lunenburg which was quite charming to visit. Check-in and out were easy and though no dedicated parking there was no problem finding close spots on the streets. Bedding, room and amenities were sufficient and though a continental breakfast basket as part of the stay would have put the icing on the cake, several shops nearby offered fare to start the day.

We stayed for two nights at Rum Runners and would definitely stay again. It's located right in the heart of where you want to be in Lunenburg ....... on the waterfront.
Of course during this time of Covid restrictions the restaurant was not operating and I was disappointed at discovering this as I heard it was very good and was looking forward to dining there.
Our second night there it poured rain which didn't impact our vacation. The only negative was that our patio door leaked. However when it was reported to management, a staff member responded immediately.
Don't expect a modern facility, however if you want to spend some time in a beautiful maritime setting, experience a stay in an historic old Inn with character, a very comfortable bed, and exceptional view of the Lunenburg Harbour reserve a room at Rum Runner Inn.
PS the bathrooms are compact .

Despite the total lack of amenities (soap, old hand pumped shampoo, phone etc.), a window that was milky, a balcony door that was hardly moveable, and the worst greeting upon arrival, we wanted to stay here for sentimental reasons as it was our first away date 12 years ago. At that time it was a warm, welcoming spot with even a cool little gift shop in the front. Times have changed. Check-in time is 4:00, but since it was a little rainy and 3:40 we tried to get the room a few minutes early. Upon pulling the door open, even before entering a loud voice called out "we will help you at 4!" Fair enough. The young couple that tried the same thing 10 minutes later were also put-out. Finally at the Golden Hour of 4 we found out the room we requested 5 months before and were assured we had (our 1st trip room from years ago and subsequent visits) had been given last minute to another couple deemed as "regulars". Tim, the owner? Not honourable, dude. Great view from the balcony, as always, but the way it is roped into sections and retains the worn carpet from years gone by is a downer. Overall...my advice would be to treat yourself better and keep moving. Lots of nicer places.

This hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Lunnenburg. It’s directly behind the fishing museum with beautiful views of the harbour. Easy walking distance to all restaurants and sights. Our room (#5 I think) had a private balcony where you can enjoy a coffee or glass of wine. There was a bit of a damp feeling in our room - maybe just due to it’s proximity to the ocean. The front desk person, Alison, was very welcoming and helpful with restaurant suggestions and driving tips!

We booked the rumrunner online for our honeymoon, a few days before we received a welcome email with activity’s to do around the area. The rumrunner is right in the middle of everything, with everything in walking distance, the fishing museum, boat tours, shops and restaurants.
With lunenburg being a beautiful historical place building’s are old and well kept including the rumrunner hotel. We had the honeymoon suite with had a king size bed that was very comfortable and a heavier duvet perfect for September nights. The room had a inclosed deck with incredible views of the harbour which was also perfect for the cool September evening to sit out and enjoy with a glass of wine. This hotel is very quiet day and night, clean and with friendly helpful staff.
Highly recommend and will be back.
