We stayed at this comfortable and convenient location in downtown historic Lunenburg, NS, for 22 days from mid January to the end of the first week of February 2021. The service and friendly atmosphere provided by Michael and Rita was well beyond our expectations. The fully equipped room, complete with kitchenette and balcony was clean and naturally bright with several windows offering both street and harbour views. I cannot overstate the awesome manner in which Rita and Michael welcomed us and enhanced our stay with their pleasant personalities.

Stayed two nights in July. Building happens to be two different ones and we were in the one across the street from the main building. (room with a harbour view) Parking can be an adventure, especially depending on when you arrive. Room looked to have just recently been redone. Portable air conditioning units can be loud when trying to sleep. Bed was a little hard for me but the spouse liked it. Pillows were the opposite. Washroom is a little snug but does the trick. Could not get the audio to work on the tv. Workers and ownership are very friendly. We did not try the breakfast. The location puts you right in the middle of everything and keeps you from having to traverse the steep hill if you end up staying a few more street back from the water.

Rita and Michael make this a place to come back to. The room was perfect with a most comfortable bed. Excellent location, minutes away from a great walk on the waterfront and many neat restaurants - we would recommend the Savvy Sailor for an excellent breakfast. Special kudos to Michael for introducing our party of 4 to Bingsu.

Beware of this Inn
My husband and I are very disappointed.
They have no parking spot - you need to park on the street. Hotel is located on busy noisy street but is close to everywhere. Rooms are very small, outdated décor with old smelly carpet. Hotel allows dogs as they were barking next to our room. Breakfast is not included but you can get very stingy amount of food for 10 dollars. You need to make breakfast reservation the night before with time you are planning to have your breakfast. you will get a spoon of plane omelet, third of banana and few pieces of cut apple.
You get two towels in your room and need to ask for any additional towel - it will be provided upon request. The only positive thing i have to say - the beds were very comfortable and clean.
I wish we did not choose to stay at this place. We sure are not recommending it. For the money we paid we got experience of old motel.

Hello We are sorry to read you did not enjoy your stay with us. We do hope all of our guests take the time to speak with us directly while staying with us to allow us an opportunity to improve your stay. We do really appreciate our guests being fair and direct with us. The Old Town of Lunenburg is a busy place this time of year. Parking can be difficult. However we always encourage our guests to stop in front of the Inn and come see us if they do not find a spot and we always find parking for our guests. Have a lovely summer Rita & Michael

I cannot praise the hotel owners enough. We stayed at the Smuggler's Cove Inn for 4 nights while visiting Lunenburg. Our flights was really delayed but the owners ensured we can have a contact free check in even though we eventually arrived at 2.30am. Mike and Rita, the owners, make you feel so welcome and you feel like you are a guest in their house rather than guest in a hotel. The place has many rooms, we were given a great corner room on 3rd floor with sea views.
Location is perfect and in the heart of Lunenburg.
Hope to be able to visit Nova Scotia again and would definitely stay here again. I'd like to see the lovely mural being painted when it's completed.

My daughter and I spent a week touring Nova Scotia and our stop at Smugglers Cove was the cherry on top. We stayed in room 307 and the sleep and cleanliness of the room was a 10/10. Micheal and Rita were super Hosts and gave us the run down of town which included a history lesson and were to eat. I would highly recommend visiting this property for a great nights sleep and its central location made touring the town on foot easy. we will definitely stay there again on our next visit...Thank you Michael and Rita for a great two night stay!!

We spent $360 for one night here because of low supply and high demand. Our stay started by travelling around the block several times until a parking spot opened up on the street because they do not have their own parking. The reception was OK. The room was nice but dated with very old carpet. The AC and mini fridge worked good. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We were on the third floor and hoped for a nice harbor view but the balcony overlooked the street which offered us street noise. It was hard to sleep in once the sun came up because they do not have blackout curtains. We could have opted to pay an additional $10 each to have a small breakfast but decided against that. There is no pool. It is located very close to the waterfront which is beautiful. We have stayed in many Holiday Inn Expresses and if there was one anywhere close we would have gone there for half the money with pool and breakfast included.

We liked this place a lot - a clean and comfortable boutique style hotel run by friendly staff. Good location in Lunenburg. Great shower and very comfortable room and bed. We used the chairs and table by the windows for reading. One of the nicest rooms in our three weeks in Canada.

The limited breakfast provided next door worked for us and we used it on both mornings. It didn't offer cereal so we brought our own!

On both days we unloaded / loaded our luggage by parking temporarily right outside and were able to park overnight in one of the hotel reserved slots just down the road.

The six of us (5 adults, 1 infant) checked into 3 rooms at the Smuggler's Cove on a busy Friday night. We were welcomed warmly by the owners who made every effort to make sure we felt at home. They even came out to make sure we had a legal parking place! All 3 rooms were clean, quiet, well-furnished, comfortable, and very well maintained. Just a great little hotel in a great little town.

A couple of nits, which come with the building and its location. At least some of the bathrooms are a bit small, though that comes with the territory in older buildings. The parking is on-street, as Lunenburg was laid out and built up waaaay before cars were conceived. But all that contributes to the town's and hotel's rustic charm. No chain hotel ambiance here!

As a parting personal touch, the owner came out and took our family's picture against the mural on the hotel's outside wall he had commissioned. Lots of interesting, local touches in the painting, done by a local artist over 3-4 months. (He's a good photographer, too; it wasn't just a "snapshot").

Yes, we would highly recommend this hotel; we might even schedule our next visit to Lunenburg around room availability at the Smuggler's Cove.

Had a great three night stay in late September. Location cannot be beat - on main street across from harbour with restaurants, pubs, shops all within 5 minute walk. Room with a water view was large, clean, comfortable and very modern. The staff was great - Michael in particular. Would definitely stay again.
