Immerse yourself in the charming architecture and furnishings of our historic, Edwardian-era home, built in 1905 by W.C. Smith, sea captain and prominent local businessman. Our 4 1/2 star B&B offers free WiFi, A/C, off-street parking, cable TV in the parlour, an antique upright piano (for our musically-inclined guests!), a guest veranda, brochures for local restaurants & attractions, and more. Start each morning with a hearty home-cooked breakfast in our elegant dining room (from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.), and enjoy 24-hour self-serve coffee, tea, and cookies. Our house is in "New Town", only a 10 minute stroll from the Old Town Lunenburg UNESCO World Heritage site. Use our B&B as a home base from which you can explore other local highlights such as Peggy's Cove, scenic Mahone Bay, the Halifax waterfront and Citadel, and the Annapolis Valley vineyards. Before you head out each day, we'd be happy to offer tips on where to go, what to do, and where to eat, to make your visit unforgettable!

This was our first experience with a B& B and it was a lovely home. How owners Susan and Sebelle have thought of everything.

I can't remember the room we stayed in but it had its own bathroom and it had everything you need. Best of all their is NO TV in the room so you can really relax.

A TV room is located on the main level, there is free WiFi and parking.

The house is located within walking distance of the town and restaurants. On the main level of the house there is a copy of every menu to view prior to going out.

I liked Susan gave us a tour of their house. My husband and I are both firefighters and it was nice being from another province to know where the emergency contact numbers/fire escapes, portable extinguishers and phones were located.

Check in time is between 4 and 6 p.m. but believe they would be flexible if you call ahead. Also they have a they have a 24 hour cancellation policy.

You have a choice of having breakfast hour at 8 or 9 a.m. We picked 8 and had to pre-book or breakfast order the night before. It was great for us as we are early risers and wanted to get going early on our east coast trip.

I was happy to see that their was liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner, and a variety of body wash in the shower and liquid soap at the sink instead of the packaged stuff that you find in the regular hotels.

Beds were very comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer.

I highly recommend the Atlantic Sojourn. The owners, Susan and Sebelle, lovingly care for the house and their guests, and the rates were very reasonable. I stayed in a corner room, with windows along both exterior walls that really lit up the room. The bathroom was huge, with a tub and an array of oils and bubble baths. The full breakfast served in the dining room was excellent. Susan and Sebelle were also very helpful in giving me recommendations for enjoying my short stay in Lunenburg. For example, I am an amateur photographer and they recommended places to photograph that no other guide book or web site had mentioned. The B&B is located just outside of the main historic district, but it's a very short walk or drive and I actually prefer the location to the town center because it's in a very quiet, shady neighborhood.

This 19th century historic home is in a wonderful location within the beautiful town of Lunenburg. The owners made you feel immediately welcome upon arrival and the home was beautifully updated while maintaining its original historic charm. Although there was no TV, the room was very comfortable and well organized, including a small yet very efficient washroom. Coffee and homemade cookies were always available, and the breakfast was outstanding with a variety of choices.

This is a nice B & B and quite comfortable. The bathroom in our room was very small and far from luxurious but certainly adequate with a shower, no tub. I did not like the dispenser type toiletries in the shower or the liquid soap dispenser at the sink. The towels and bed linens were just average quality.

When we arrived the very first thing we had to do was choose our breakfast from a menu, which I found a little off-putting. We were then taken on a tour of the premises and again, I felt a bit rushed and pressured. Susan and Sebelle were very hospitable and warm, however, and we enjoyed their company.

Breakfast was cooked to order and it was very good. You have two available times for breakfast, 8:30 or 9:00 a.m.

The thing that I really have an issue with, and which prevents me from rating this B & B any higher, is the check-out time: 10:00 a.m. The information binder is laid out on the bed open to the page informing guests of this, in large black letters, so you are in no doubt of this. Now check-in time is 4:00 p.m., a good hour later than many places like this, so you have a full 2 hours less time here than you would at most other establishments. I'm afraid a 10:00 a.m. checkout is simply unacceptable. It makes for a very rushed experience when the whole idea of B&Bs is to be more relaxed.

It is a nice B & B and the hosts are certainly kind and hospitable but for the reasons I've mentioned I doubt we would stay again.

We are so terribly sorry that you found our bed and breakfast lacking in so many details. When a reservation comes in by phone, we explain our check-in time (4 to 6 p.m.) and ask if those times are convenient, and we also ask if a guest needs an earlier or later arrival time. We also say that a guest may call and request a different time. Our confirmation letter also states our check-in and check-out time and the fact that we can accommodate earlier or later arrivals, if requested; and we have a very generous 24-hour cancellation policy should our B&B not meet someone’s expectations in advance. Our check-out time (10 a.m.) gives us just enough time to turn over our rooms and clean our home (by ourselves), run our errands, and be back in time for check-in. Although we do post our check-out time in the room, we have never asked guests to leave if they linger past 10! We just have a great deal to do in order to keep our B&B clean and spotless for our guests. We also accommodate requests for early or late check-in and check-out, if a guest requests a different time, unless we have an unavoidable appointment. Yes, a tour is given of our home. We have stayed in hundreds of B&Bs here and overseas, and we find it disconcerting when we do not know what rooms we can use, where items we may need are to be found, where the emergency exits and emergency lights are, and where we might find the hosts should we become ill in the middle of the night. We are required to show emergency exits and fire extinguishers, although we cover much more in our tour. We strive to make our guests comfortable in our home by providing them with as much information as possible about the layout and the amenities. We find that if guests know how to use some of the specialty items, those items are not inadvertently broken. Yes, we do ask guests to choose breakfast when they arrive. Our menu is extensive, and we want to make sure that we have enough time to go to the grocery story before it closes at 9 p.m. to get the items that guests have chosen. In larger cities, stores are open 24/7, but this is not the case in Lunenburg. And on Sunday, the store closes at 6 p.m. If we wait for guests to come back from dinner, then there is a greater possibility that we will not have what they might order, especially if there is a special dietary request, which we are pleased to try to accommodate. Our breakfast hour is from 8 to 9 a.m., and guests may begin at any time during that hour, not just 8:30 and 9 as stated in this review. We can also accommodate earlier and later times, when requested. Many times we will ask a guest if they wish to be at the table at the same time that an earlier-arriving guest has already chosen so that they will be able to meet and interact with our other lovely guests. Our policy is to continue to become as green as possible, as we are extremely concerned about the deteriorating state of our environment. Therefore, we have chosen to place liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower and liquid soap at the sink. We used to have little packaged soaps; however, if someone is here for only one night and uses one small bar in the shower and another small bar at the sink, we feel that this is a terrible waste of soap and packaging, since it must be thrown away when the guest leaves. We do, however, have packaged soap available, should a guest request this type of product. We also have six complimentary Arbonne products (not in dispensers) in each room for our guests to try. As for our linens, we made a conscience effort to invest in good quality but not luxurious and expensive linens because they are the most easily damaged items in a B&B and must be replaced so often. Instead, we choose to spend money on summer- and winter-weight robes, two luggage racks, sound machines, extra towels, and comfortable mattresses, pillows, and furnishings for each of our rooms. A guest has only to ask for any product or service that is needed, and we will make every attempt to provide it;s but we must know about it in order to avoid your being disappointed. Please ask, and we think you’ll be very surprised how easy it is for any of us in this industry to make your stay more comfortable and more enjoyable.

Looks like a candy, wrapped in a pretty shiny paper, but the taste is sour. All the notes and comments from the two owners are referring to keeping the property in tip top shape. "Don't wear shoes", "don't smoke in the yard", "don't leave the light on..." They didn't ask to turn the TV off in the room though (did I mention no TV in the room?).
The floor in the bathroom is at angle, I had to balance myself while sitting, my friends who had the other room, said that the bathroom was tiny, so we figured out, our bathroom was a room that could not be used as a guest-room anymore and was converted.
Breakfast was ok, but we had to choose what we eat before we went to bed. (I had the same experience when I was in the army)
The entrance to the house has no sidewalk, you go through the wet grass, or come from the back like a 1800's servant.
When my friend asked where he could smoke, they sent him to a public park, they said there is no place outside for that, even though they have a bench next to the unmaintained little fish pond. Overall, the fake smile of the owners did not make up for smothering of the guests. Look for another B&B, this one is my last choice. Clean, maintained but not welcoming.
We came up with the title that reflects it all: They care for the property not for the guests.

Wonderful. It was a convenient walk to the centre of town. The hosts were wonderful providing a lot of great advice and help. Breakfast was divine. The fresh chocolate chip cookies, available water, coffee and tea was well used. The veranda was lovely - we could sit outside having a break before heading out for the evening. We had a wonderful stay there. Would definitely stay there again.

I think everything that can be said has been said in other reviews about the proprietors Susan and Sebelle, and their beautifully appointed B&B. They bend over backwards to cater for your breakfast tastes and everything is of excellent quality. The only fly in the ointment for me is its location on a busy road meaning that there is a fairly constant traffic hum a lot of the time. If you're a town dweller this probably won't bother you............. There's also a little deck upstairs where guests can chat and or read or whatever - very pleasant. I would certainly recommend it anyway.

I am sure we all have a favorite Aunt, whose house we always just loved to visit ! Well for me this is the feeling we got when we had our stay at the Atlantic Sojourn Inn, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. From the moment we arrived it was like meeting close family that you had not seen for some time. Susan and Sebelle the owners greeted us at the door with cheerful smiles and a musical "Come on in" . It was like they have known you for years. Upon signing in we were ask to choose from a fairly wide selection on the morning breakfast menu. From hot and cold cereals, eggs any style, waffles, pancakes, french toast, fruitcups, juice, coffee, tea just about everything and anything one would want to have for breakfast. Once you made your choices you were asked at what time you would like to be served. Which was anytime between 8:00 and 9:00 AM. After that was finnalized it was time to tour the Inn. Sebelle and Susan have just completed a total remodeling of their Inn. Everything is spotless clean and fresh, there are beautiful pictures on the walls as well as many flower arrangements. The Inn is very tastefully furnished and a real pleasure to be in. We were taken to our room, which was at the head of the stairs, ( The Lupin Room ) it was very tastefully appointed and very spacious compared to some B&B's we have stayed in. Again extremely clean with crisped linens on the bed and a choice of four evening robes to wear ( two light weight and two heavier ) There was also a sofa couch/ pullout bed that could be used for an extra guest. The bath was equipped with a shower, sink and toilet. The shower was supplied with a dispensor of soap, shampoo and conditioner. Lots of Towels. Although the room was not air conditioned there was a whisper quiet fan on the ceiling which did an excellent job of moving the air around and keeping the room fresh. The Inn is situated on a fairly busy corner and when we first arrived thought it may cause some trouble for sleeping. But Susan and Sebelle thought of that too. New windows had been installed and are very sound proof and made the room very quiet when they were closed. But later at night when traffic settles down ( usually around 9:00PM ) I would advise you to open them again and let the sound of a very distant fog horn lull you to sleep.
Would we stay there again? In a Flash ! Would we recommended it ? You bet ! We would stay at the Atlantic Sojourn Inn because it is like being with family and that is the way you are made to feel, so how can you get better than that.
So thank you Sebelle and Susan for a most enjoyable stay, and we looking forward to returning again sometime soon. From your ( wish we were ......... Neice and Nephew.........but not )

My wife and I have stayed in many B&B's in our travels, and this is one of the best that we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The home is beautiful, exceptionally well maintained. The parlor is welcoming with 24/7 cookies, coffee and tea. It is close to town if you chose to walk into historic Lunenburg. Highly recommended!!

Hi Terri! Actually, the ensuite in the room you reserved (Lupin) through an online booking agent has a shower but no tub. However, we have one other Superior Queen available (same price) which does have a tub, so we can accommodate you in that room if you'd prefer. (Bubble baths in the winter are lovely, for sure!) You can call (902-634-3151) or email us to confirm. (Sorry, TripAdvisor rules don't allow us to post our email address here, but you can find it on our Facebook page). Cheers, Linda
