First hotel I’ve ever stayed in that didn’t supply a phone, coffee maker, drinking cups and the lighting in the rooms are horrible. Forget about doing any paper work after the sun goes down. One single light at the door. If you google earth the big bird inn you will be shocked what this place once looked like

The positives: -Rooms are clean -Beds are comfortable -Staff is friendly and helpful - they even accommodated a later checkout for us because our van was in the shop. For this we are very grateful. But there were also Negatives... which accompanied with a $180 price tag brings down the rating. -its noisy at night - sound from the hallways. -no hairdryer - only 2 large towels, 2 small towels and 3 face cloths in a room that sleeps 4 - no coffee in room - though there is a complimentary coffee bar downstairs. - it's newly renovated with high quality materials that impressed me at first but son you notice the workmanship is questionable and I think in a few years they will be dealing with issues. Too bad this reno is what makes probably makes staying here so expensive. - no luggage rack Another thing to note. I was bummed there was no fridge only to discover at night (when it kicked in) that its been placed inside the cabinet - just an FYI for anyone that may find themselves thinking the same. For our second night in Wawa we booked at the outdoorsman, and for $150 we got a complete kitchenette and table, in comparison the Big Bird Inn is grossly overpriced.

Free parking. No hair dryer in room. Had to get from lobby. Free coffee, tea at lobby. Small rooms. Scenic high falls is the main attraction 10mins drive away off road. Wawa goose structure near airport is an attraction.

The rooms are decent. Ive read lots of reviews saying the rooms are dirty. That is not our experience. The rooms are decent. Have a microwave and small bar fridge. There are coin laundry facilities in the hotel which is handy. The staff has done their best to be helpful in the midst of covid. We had trouble with the TV as did a number of people but it all boiled down to the previous guest messed with the remote, input, etc. The front desk clerk had it sorted in a minute. The place has clearly been under renovation and it's good. Could use some upgraded pillows. In saying all that the price was steep for what we got but not a horrible place as some previous reviews have said... at least not our room.

Wawa Big Bird Inn, The big bird you wake up to and regret like a Long night of drinking and making poor life decisions. This will be a semi long and detailed review and it involves two separate rooms over a course of two weeks so if you don’t want to read the full review a recap is as follows: The owner(s) are capitalizing on the lack of availability of rooms in Wawa, they rushed their renovations and did a sloppy job to make some short term gains financially with their overpriced rooms, which will come back to bite them in the butt from all the negative reviews. Some of the issues I had were resolved and noted at the bottom of the review. The rooms I stayed in for a week each: Room 126 - Double Queen newly renovated side Room 106 - Single King with jacuzzi tub existing side of motel. What I liked: The staff were nice and accommodating, Kailey at the front desk took the brunt of my frustration with my complaints, and she got several of the issues resolved. 1st room ( Room 126 ), this was a newly renovated/done room I liked how large it was and the comfort of the bed. 2nd room ( Room 106 ), the room was more functional than room 126 as it had a wardrobe, mini couch, & jacuzzi etc it was simply laid out better and cheaper than Room 126. That’s about it for what I liked…. Not much right? exactly.. What I disliked: For room #126: *PAPER THIN WALLS, I could hear people talking, moaning, snoring you name it you can hear it I was surprised I didn’t hear someone fart, for new construction it was done poorly! *Contractors working until 11pm, as there was a big rush to get rooms ready for guests *NO Do Not Disturb door hangar *Electric fireplace was in a weird spot in the room that made no sense don’t even think it was hooked up. *The fan in the bathroom wasn’t operational *The TV (satelite) didn’t work the first few days I was there *The WiFi was intermittent if it wasn't super slow it wasn’t working. *The shower temperature was set to mildly warm (it’s a feature on premixing shower taps, it wasn’t set properly) *The shower tiles were done by an amateur looking at the grout and spacing/quality I cringed *No blow dryer in the bathroom *There wasn’t a place to hang clothes *Weird sound that I think originated from the Mini fridge. It sounded like pigeons or something, it was very annoying. *No Coffee maker, or cups in the room I had to grab a coffee cup from the front area *No Clock, not a super big issue as I use my phone but still. *No phone in the room For room #106: *Weird musty smell when I first got in the room, which I figured out why later on (read on) *Jacuzzi, this was a mixed bag it wasn’t bad however the contractor did a poor job with it, the design of the jacuzzi makes water splash all over the place when your initially filling it, and because of this there was water going over the sides of the jacuzzi where the tub wasn’t sealed against the wall which meant there was water going on the floor, and then making it’s way to the carpet hence the musty smell. You could see visible signs of water damage on the moulding on the bottom of the floor. *Shower stall was designed for short people, i’m 6’2 and I have to duck to get in and out of it *No storage in shower stall i.e. cant put soap/shampoo anywhere as theres no ledge. *No blow dryer in the bathroom *There was a place to hang clothes but no hangars supplied. *No Coffee maker, or cups in the room I had to grab a coffee cup from the front area *No Clock, though microwave clock was handy *No phone in the room *WiFI was better than room 126, however still spotty. Resolved issues: Kailey was able to get the contractors to fix the fan in room 126 & get them to adjust the temperature of the shower so it was hotter than a luke warm puddle, she also tried to fix my satellite connection. Misc things to note: My boss was up stairs in the motel and his internet was next to useless so he would come to the ‘bar’ area where it would work better. A few occasions you would see people sleeping in the bar area, assuming people needed a place to stay the night and with them having no rooms they ‘rented’ a makeshift bed out of a few of the couches… it was a bit odd but If a person is that desperate for a place to crash it’s a quick cash grab by the motel. Kailey is a Jill of all trades, she does a little bit of everything (not just front desk), her bosses should note that when one is wearing multiple hats at a jobsite maybe they should be paid a bit better. They shouldn’t have a sign to ‘call’ there phone# if no one is at the front desk, Front desk should be there and other tasks delegated to other employees. I’ve seen both owners, the one is very brash to put it politely, you can tell he’s the one whos all about getting some quick cash while it’s good before the downturn in the winter. The owners are making a lot of mistakes with the establishment, Looks nice but with the pricing for what you get it’s not worth it. I’m glad work paid for my stay here as I wouldn’t have spent the kind of money for those rooms and amenities. My honest opinion is unless the prices drop about 50% ( yes thats right half price ) I wouldn’t stay here for what you get. I’ve read some of the google reviews and can tell some of em are ‘fake’ or posted by friends/family/employees to make it look/sound better than it really is based off my two weeks here and what my boss had told me about his room. Kailey, you’re doing an excellent job and I could stare into your beautiful blue eyes and talk to you all day (you made the stay better) IN CLOSING: Save your money, if you’re in a pinch check airbnb, hipcamp, facebook marketplace. This place isn’t worth someones paycheck to stay here for what you get until they actually stop being cheap and do things right with the rooms.

We stayed here July 27,2021. The price is not what it says on website. Over 200 dollars for 6 hours stay I think they charge by the other hotels being full would not stay here. If only place left I would sleep in the car. And nothing in room no hair dryer cups ice bucket.

My wife and I came out of a canoe trip in lake superior provincial park a few days early so we came to Wawa to look for a hotel. We checked about 5 hotels that got good reviews and they were fully booked. The gentleman at High Falls Cabins and Motel even called 2 others for us. Big Bird is under construction but we gave it a chance anyway. It is over $200/ night with taxes for a double queen. The room is newly renovated. Unfortunately the staff aren't checking the rooms out well before they open a room after renovations. Staff were folding laundry in the lobby. That seems odd. The first room they gave us had a broken electronic lock and would only unlocked with the master key. Not our cards. After waiting in our room without a working key and while a worker adjusted our door closer (while we were trying to get settled in) I went to the front desk. Someone was on the phone with tech support about our lock. I asked to be moved to one with a working key. They moved us to 121. Someone from the cleaning staff said it was cleaned. After showering my wife went looking for a hairdryer. There wasn't one in the washroom. When she looked under the tv cabinet it had construction dust in it and it's in rough shape (pics attached)(hardly seems renovated). I went to the front desk to get a hairdryer. No one was at the front desk and I didn't bring my cell with me so I couldn't call them to reach a staff member (they don't stay at the front desk so expect you to use your cell to call the front desk rather than a bell or other system)(I guess it doesn't matter if it's long distance for a guest...). I looked outside and noticed some staff out the front door smoking. I asked for a hairdryer. One staff member looked and then called another staff member. The other staff member said they were out of hairdryers and just lent the last one to another customer. I said we need one. She brought us one fairly quickly. My wife and I went out to run some errands and when we came back I was about to go into our room and a surprised woman in the hallway said that's my room. I said 121 and she shower me her card. We tested her card and it worked. I went to the front desk and told them nothing against this woman but she's got a key to our room. He said he'd fix it. I went back and my key worked. I went out to the car to get something and when I came back my card no longer worked. No one was at the desk again and I forgot my cell again. I picked up the hotels cordless phone to call them to the front desk and was calling out loud as well. The gentleman eventually turned up and fixed the card. All of this happened by 5:15 PM on check in day. The room also does not have: • A landline phone. I guess they assume you have a cell to call the front desk if you want say a hairdryer... or for an emergency. • A fire evacuation plan and check out sign on the inside of the door. • Drinking cups. • A pen and notepad. • Kleenex. • A garbage can in the room. Only in the washroom. • Radio. Having been on the lake for the phase 3 covid announcement, I was unsure if it was ok for the staff to be completely massless. At no time did I see a staff member or trade wearing a mask or any other type of face covering. For the most part guests were. On a positive note. All of the staff were polite if not well trained or prepared to do their jobs. To me this comes down to poor management. Quality control went out the window at the Big Bird Inn. To be clear on this review. We normally stay at regular motels. We have stayed at rooms that are under $100 and don't even have a remote for the tv. We're not really very fussy. A major point here is the room was just under $200 before tax and was not worth it. In the morning when we checked out I explained some of my concerns to the friendly young woman at the front desk. She asked if a $20 discount was sufficient and I said no but I'll take it. The room was worth far less. With more preparation and staff training this hotel may be worth what they are presently charging. But not right now. Right now they are simply getting it because all other hotels in town are full.
