Booked this hostel since not much was available durring the dates we were traveling. The mattress was rock hard. There is no AC so we were sweaty all night. The only thing they had was little fans which didn't do much. The staff was very nice and the breakfast was delicious
Located in an old presbytery. You figure how beautiful it is? The area is beautiful as well as the auberge. The location is good but noisy. Being "where the action is" has a cost. The bed bases are terrible! They make so much noise! Bring ear plugs. The kichen needed some love. I had to wash baskets to put my grocery in clean ones. The ground floor toilet smelled pee. Breakfast is very plain. The "seasonal fruits" they annonce are bananas and apples (in July). I suppose they should just annonce "fruits". We would not be desappointed.
I'd been meaning to visit this hostel for a while now, but the occasion never presented itself. Following a hiking trip in New Hampshire, I wanted to spend a week in the Eastern Townships and Magog was one of my destinations. So finally, I got the opportunity to check out Auberge de jeunesse Magog-Orford. First of all, you can't beat the location. It's smack down in the center of Magog, within walking distance of the lake, the beach, the supermarket, the microbrewery, shops, restaurants, etc. With free parking on site, it means that you can just leave your car there and walk to most places of interest. The hostel is housed in a converted presbytery, which gives it a lot architectural panache. It feels special to be staying in such a historical building. Everything has been renovated and the place feels brand new. I booked a single room on the second floor. It wasn't not big, but in addition to the bed there was a desk and cabinets where you can store your stuff. The mattress was comfortable and the two windows helped cool the room down at night. There is a huge, fully equipped kitchen for guests, as well as an equally big dining room. There is a TV room and a living room with couches and beanbags on the second floor. There is also a cute coffee shop near the reception, with indoor and outdoor seating areas. There's a laundry room on each floor. You can also hang out on the porch or the front yard. There are a couple of bathrooms on each floor. Everything, especially the bathrooms, are kept sparkling clean. This was a pleasant surprise, as cleanliness can often be an issue in hostels. Everyone on the staff was friendly and always there to answer your questions or make suggestions. This creates a nice vibe throughout the hostel, one that you wish you could find in every hostel you visit. There was also a free breakfast from 7:30 to 10:00. Bread, fruit, bagels, hardboiled eggs, and cereals were available, with jam and peanut butter, as well as coffee, tea, and orange juice. I loved my three days there and I wish I could have stayed longer! I'm definitely staying there again the next time I return to the Eastern Townships. Auberge de jeunesse Magog-Orford in a nutshell: Amazing hostel! This, coming from a guy who has stayed in over 150 of them in 64 different countries! Félicitations Romy, à toi et à toute ton équipe, pour votre excellent travail. =) Vous faites la différence!…
I arrived a couple of hours earlier than the check in and my room was already ready. A nice little cozy room, perfect for a overnite stay. They serve breakfast from 7:30 to 10:00, since I was leaving before they started serving breakfast the staff gave me indications for making my own coffee in the morning. It’s my second time in this hostel and definitely will stay there again.
I booked the Auberge de Jeunesse Magog Orford for a short stay with my advanced French students. I needed something inexpensive that would also offer them an opportunity to meet other travelers and speak French. We got that and more at this auberge. The staff was super-friendly and helpful and willing to speak to my anglophone students in French despite some of their shyness/errors. This was very welcoming and encouraging. Bravo to them for creating such a great environment. The hostel is clean and well-run with rooms that have new furniture and all the amenities you could expect, including decent wifi. There is a number of different room configurations and I could see great options for families or small groups staying together. You can't beat the location, it is within easy walking distance of all the shops, restaurants and the waterfront. You can drive to Parc Orford and the ski area in no time. You get a ton of value for your money with breakfast included in your stay as well as discount prices on espresso drinks from the in-house coffeeshop. I have stayed in a number of hostels in Quebec and this is my new favorite. I have plans to go there with my own family later this year. You should too!…
This time I reserved for 3 nights and I had a hard time to leave. The area is a breath of air compare to Montreal where I live. As on my first visit to the Auberge, the staff was very friendly and attentive. It had as if I was visiting friends . The place was clean considering the mess that winter with its salt, sand on the road could do to the entrance of the Auberge. Nevertheless it was well kept. Chapeau to you all.
I spend 2 nights last week end. The Auberge is well located near retaurants, the lake is 10 minutes walk and they offer a lots of tours. But the best part is the friendly service and the attention given to guests. Bravo Romi and the gang for a superb week end. Won't be long before I return. To all the team, great work. Michel
I stay at this hostel whenever I come for business in Magog. It's great to have access to a fully equipped kitchen and there is lots of tables and couches to work comfortably. The rooms are simple, but the dining and lounge areas are so great. Every time I come the place is more beautiful! The staff is very friendly and helpful, and obviously works really hard to make this hostel a welcoming as possible.
