Thanks for this wonderful holiday Arvind and Meeta. We thoroughly enjoyed the sights, sounds, weather, rain and fragrance of this beautiful place.

Thanks to your guidance and directions, we could visit many new places. The Kadle beach was pristine and all of us enjoyed every bit of our experience here. Yana was a hidden gem that offered us some breath taking sights. Manjuguni Venkataramana temple was a new discovery for us,

Coming to Suragi itself. I was amazed at the great attention to details you guys have given in building this unique stay. The structure (the tiled roof, sit outs around the house, open terrace, pathways and the lush garden), furniture (bamboo sofas, chairs, wooden cots and wardrobes), interiors (wildlife photographs, paintings and other pieces of art), recreation facilities (TT, carrom etc.) and the care for the guests (buffet arrangements so the guests self serve to their needs, coffee/tea/kashaya on the house, wonderful breakfast everyday - no repititions any day) made our stay here truly exhilarating.

We are leaving today, but we will definitely comeback for another stay sooner than later! Thanks for these happy memories!

We visited this nice property during Xmas vacation and it proved to be a great choice. Meeta and Aravind as hosts were perfect from the booking stage all the way till checkout. Amazing food with local varieties every day were cooked by Mai.

Meeta and Aravind showed us around be it a beach walk for sunset or a small trek around the hillock or the cycling tour to the backwaters. Aravind took us to a Yakshagana performance late night and it was a very different and unique experience. All in all such a variety and local experience was only possible because of our decision to stay at a home stay hosted by this passionate couple.

I would recommend this place heavily and wish we could visit again soon.

If you are looking to visit Uttara Kannada region for a holiday , you can centre your visit with a stay in Suragi.Ambience is homely and pleasent , food with utmost love and care.
Less than 300 mts to Kadle beach, which is one of the cleanest and safe beaches for all age group.
You definitely can not go wrong with Suragi, if you want to keep it simple and enjoy maximum.

Thanks Meeta and Aravind for all your hospitality.

As a family of 4 it was a very enjoyable stay at your place. The food and hospitality was simply outstanding. The cook is amazing and our kids mulled kidnapping her and bringing her to Bangalore 😀 The hospitality of Aravind and Meeta is incredible. The garden, trees, fruit plants are well maintained. The beach is a stone's throw away from the homestay.
We are eagerly looking forward to returning soon.

We were a group of 9 adults and we kids and we had 5 rooms to ourselves. Cook and people there are very hospitable. Our stay was good with all the facilities including geaser, AC, good cots, beds, pillows and blankets. Its just about 300 m from kadle beach by foot. Food is pure vegetarian and with the right ingredients. Not too bland and not to spicy, homely food. Much recommended.

This is indeed a great home stay!We visited this place during one of our corporate leisure trips. We were a group of 12 people and hence had to look for a place that could accommodate such a big group. Through one of our colleagues, we came to know about this place. We drove from Bangalore to Kumta and after around 7-8 hrs of drive, we reached Suragi. Highlights of this place are:
1) Access to beach: The most splendid part of this homestay is the access to the beach. Just with in a 2-3 min walking distance, the beach is nothing less than any of the private beaches that most good beach resorts offer. And, it looks like a private beach, as it’s far away from all the crowded and polluted beaches. The sunset views are great. If you are interested in photography, make sure you are equipped with all types of lenses, as the scenic landscapes shall offer you great glimpses of sunsets, fishermen with their daily catches and lots more!
2) Friendly and courteous staff: Arvind and Meeta, are one of the most courteous owners you can come across. Home stay, always raises questions of security and other aspects in your mind, but after staying in this property for 2 nights, I can say that, all these concerns can be safely forgotten. They are very friendly and ever ready for to help. They also helped us with the itineraries and helped us to finalize the “places to visit”. They accompanied us on our trek and provided us with volleyball, surf boards, kites, that made our evening at the beach a memorable one (Loved the GOPRO cam moments) . It will be unfair, if I don’t mention the owner’s nephew and the care taker, who run the homestay in the absence of Arvind and Meeta. They are also very friendly and nice.
3) Ambience of the room and facilities: Rooms are aesthetically designed and have all the key facilities. Before, coming to this place, considering the fact that this is a home stay, I had minimal expectations. But upon entering, all my pre-conceived notions went out for a toss and this was almost on par with Club Mahindra studio rooms. The rooms and the property are reminiscent of traditional Kerala architecture. The rooms don’t have A/C but the fans were properly spaced keeping the rooms sufficiently cool. Bathrooms (attached) were very neat and had hot water supply throughout the day. I loved the design of some of the furniture, and am looking for similar ones for my home! I also loved the IP radio which had a good collection of melodious songs, and was the icing on the cake after a long drive. The property has ample parking space, so you don’t have to worry about your vehicles.
4) Food: I should say upfront that this is a vegetarian place and non-vegetarian food & alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the premises. But I doubt this will be too much of a problem, as the team makes sure that you are overwhelmed with the food they provide. During our 2 days of stay, we had some amazing local delicacies. Kashaya and Kottu idli (made in Jack fruit leaves) are star attractions and a must-try.
5) Places to visit: Even though we couldn’t visit all the places due to time constraints, this place is closer to a lot of attractions. Kadale beach (should also try morning trek here), Yana Rocks, Murdeshwara, Gokarna, Om Beach, Mirjan Fort and Ayurvedic Center are some of them.
Overall, we had a great time at Suragi and the stay was very comfortable. I can say this with full confidence that this is not just my opinion, but I am echoing the views of all my 11 colleagues, who were a part of this trip. Ideal for a weekend get-away from Bangalore, I will give this place a 9/10 

It is good to find cheap accommodation anywhere you go but in Gokarna you want to avoid going to Suragi Home Stay. The lady running this homestay, to put it mildly is a con woman.

A very close friend of mine booked 2 rooms to stay from the 1st of November to 3rd of November. She wanted to take her family to Gokarna to relax. Unfortunately, the weather Gods decide to hit the west coast of Karnataka with heavy rain and it would be dangerous to put the family at risk for a holiday during the same time the rain Gods would be coming down. The government has declared it it non-safe for folks to be in Gokarna till Cyclone Kyarr moves further west (Karnataka Braces For Cyclone Kyarr, Heavy Rain Likely Today).

As such, my friend request for cancellation of their stay and a refund on the amount paid. This is when the ordeal got worse for my friend.

The owner of the homestay refused point blank to refund and said that it is perfectly safe to come and visit (I don’t know which satellite she was looking at that the govt. of India couldn’t see). Also, she mentioned, customers are currently enjoying the beach to which my friend requested to do a video chat to see the customers and the beach. The owner refused saying we are not your servant. This had us dumbfounded as a video chat on whatsapp to ensure the safety of the family is a request and not a demand. As per the the homestay description the homestay is on the beach, it would have meant to just be in the right place to prove her point. At most 20 steps!! This proves she was lying because most people are currently getting away from Gokarna and towards it!!!!

This gets more interesting!!

The owner said to my friend that I know customers like you who are trying to bully me!! Well, I don’t know about other customers but we were looking only at getting our money back. We are middle class families who are in a job and pay all our taxes. So we only wanted to get our money back because of a natural calamity looming and nothing more. Even really high end hotels which clearly have a no refund policy refund money in the face of a natural disaster. It is not as if we were looking for a refund when we made the booking. It would give anyone more joy to explore places they intend to go to then get a refund.

So folks please, do not spend your hard earned money in Gokarna at this homestay so that your money is safe and you enjoy your time in Gokarna with a peace of mind.

Response from OwnerSuragi, Owner at Suragi Home Stay
Responded 29 Oct 2019
Dear Sir, while its good to see you review our property, doing so for a friend’s potential stay (that got cancelled) and calling a third person names based on hearsay exposes the level of your maturity. Be that as it may, this response is to present readers with the facts in the case since you have made some allegations on a public forum (based on hearsay may I repeat) to attempt tarnishing our reputation (both as Suragi and Individually) and is therefore justified, although not necessary since the review is by an unaffected party. The cyclone Kyar is long gone (you can see it in the pictures posted on 28th Oct 2019 on our FB page). Would certainly be even farther away (if still active) at the time of the proposed visit of your friend (1st Nov 2019). We are no Meteorological Department however. Asking for a video call in the middle of the afternoon at 3.00 PM from the beach on 27th Oct 2019 to see how it might be on 1st Nov 2019 is certainly not wise and one cant take it literally when one says guests are enjoying the beach presently. The best time to enjoy the beach (west coast) is an hour or so prior to sunset, for the uninitiated. The instigation was definitely not from our end, even though we exercised maximum restraint during the entire communication. The terms and conditions of booking Suragi has been the same since inception – no refund for cancellations within 15 days of stay. And your (us too) being middle class, salaried, tax paying has nothing to do with the fact that your friend tried to get us to change the policy (by any means), when it was not warranted and the communication for the same wasn’t necessarily proper either. Just so the readers know, we have had such video’s (about present weather conditions etc) exchanged with guests who were to visit Suragi around the time of Kyar and made changes to their schedules (they too are families with young kids) and made the necessary changes to accommodate those change in dates with other bookings, all voluntarily. In the past events of heavy rains (during August 2019 for instance) a few booking were cancelled and full refund issued when the climate was indeed not conducive for travel, and several inquiries, declined, although we are not a star hotel. Scores of reviews on TripAdvisor, Google and other forum are testament to the levels of customer service at Suragi (which you should perhaps experience first hand yourself rather than going by hearsay). Therefore in conclusion, one need not worry about being taken for a ride or conned and can confidently plan to visit Suragi, one of the best-rated home stays by the Kadle beach, for the Real Beach Experience.

We visited Suragi in the month of Feb. One sentence to define this place "Perfect gateway for relaxation".
Highlights of this place:
1. Rooms are spacious and well equipped with modern amenities.
2. Food was amazing and very tasty. All credit goes to Raju the cook. Very couteous and friendly.
3. A 3 min walking distance is the beach. Its better than a private beach offered by the high end luxury resorts. Away from the pollution and crowd, its serene and very clean.
4. Sharath, the manager was Very friendly and helpful.
5. The owners Aravind and Meeta were very friendly and helpful. Though they were not present in the homestay while we were there, they were in constant touch with us to make sure everything went smooth and as expected. Kudos to the team Suragi!!!
6. Just opposite is the Ayurvedic centre for a relaxed Massages at a very decent price.

Tips:
1. Stay minimum of 2 nights to experience Suragi and its surroundings.
2. Dont miss the short and amazing trek alongside the beach to reach a paradise private beach.
3. Ayurvedic massage is a must try.
4. Dont miss the Sunset, quite amazing.

After reading rave reviews on the web, we are two retired couples booked this place for 2 rooms for 4 nights during October 2017. We have travelled a lot in Karnataka and stayed in several homestays over the last decade. This place was very ordinary and below average food quality but surprisingly highly overated on this site. We had a very average stay and the quality of water they use from the open well is not acceptable. All four of us had severe vomitting and loose motions during our stay and we have never had such problems ever during last 2 decades of our frequent holidaying. We have therefore decided not to recommend this place to our friends.

Response from OwnerSuragi, Owner at Suragi Home Stay
Responded 24 Dec 2017
Dear Sir, Thanks for your review. The intent of this response is to provide readers with the facts in this regard for an informed decision. The food during your stay was certainly below par for our palate too. But it was cooked to your specifications of “Zero Chillies” (wet or dry) in every dish, every day as opposed to our regular recipe. I am sure it’s a challenge for any cook to make ‘Chilli-less south indian dishes’ tasty as it was for our cook. The open well in question is one of the oldest in the area and has been providing clean, potable water for generations and not one guest in the past 4 years since Suragi’s inception has complained about the water. Many have in fact marveled at the softness, taste and clarity of that water compared to the borewell waters they are used to. None of us using this water for our daily needs across seasons has once fallen sick due to this water. We are sorry you all had to endure bad health during your stay at Suragi but it might also be from several other places you visited on your trip to Suragi or around, during your stay. We can certainly assure all readers of the quality of water from our open well, which BTW is also filtered (AquaSure etc) for all cooking and drinking purposes at Suragi (and also food- if allowed to cook per our recipe like many other reviewers seem to have experienced and written about) to be of good hygiene and taste and no one need worry about either. Just as you are free to provide your views, other guests have provided theirs over the years, based on their experiences. Why should one be surprised or think that they are over rated? We certainly welcome and respect all views and reviews equally without any prejudice.
