While the views were spectacular and the room very clean, the walls were paper thin and the meal option was buffet only. The buffet food was weak in choice and provide little for any dietary concerns, all at a very expensive price. There were loads of outdoor activities on site and nearby, so if you plan for your own meals...

This is a charming rustic lodge in a great location. You need to book early for a cabin: I booked in mid-January for early August and couldn't book a small cabin, we had to go into hotel rooms in the lodge. The woman who took the booking could not have been more helpful, she took great care to find out...

My mom stayed at this lodge with my 10 year old son last week on an intergenerational trip. They had an amazing time and said they said they woke up every morning in a room that faced the beautiful mountains and lake. They really enjoyed the great activities like kayaking , canoeing, swimming, and the ropes course. In addition, my...

We really enjoyed our overnight stay at the charming Strathcona Lodge. It was like summer camp for kids, but a lot more pricey. The buffet dinner with the staff was surprisingly good, and the view of the lake was magical. A swim in the lake made us feel like kids again. Next time we won't forget to bring marshmallows, chocolate...

If you are the type of person that loves the outdoors and finds old rustic lodges charming, than this is the place for you!! It is actually the only lodging in Strathcona Park, and is on an idyllic lake. Given that it is an Outdoors School for kids most of the year, there is plenty of water gear: kayaks, boats,...

I attended a family wedding at the Lodge in June 2016 and I wasn't overly impressed with the facility. The scenery is beautiful, of course. It was a beautiful outdoors wedding. Simple but elegant. My biggest issue was with the website information. It specifically said that for those people who weren't into rock climbing, zip-lines, etc., you could relax in...

Dinner at Stratchcona Lodge on the way back from Gold River to Campbell River (there’s a story; 100 minute wait for the meal due to chef who managed to get knifed [probably by himself]) but a valiant waitress holding it all together who we rewarded with a good tip even though we lost a couple of hours of our lives...

I am glad to hear our server kept you entertained while you waited too long for your meal. Thank-you for your patience! You tell a good story ... We did have a chef who injured himself on a personal fishing trip last season, not in our kitchen. We're sorry the meal was slow coming and hope you stop in again...

31 of us showed up on Friday for a weekend of fun and fellowship. From the moment we checked in, we were treated incredibly well. The food is very healthy and tasty. The rooms are clean and bright. The staff all have genuine smiles at all times and all ask how we are doing all the time and they sincerely...

I finally have found the time to write this long overdue review, I'm new to this so here goes! My husband, and I stayed at the lodge in August. It was a much needed escape from our hectic lives. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Living on the edge since 1959, Strathcona Park Lodge pioneered self propelled and off the grid wilderness experiences on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. From the lake side cabins, chalets and rooms experience wilderness inspired summer holidays, guided trips and group gatherings. Home base for WYLD youth summer camps, the COLT leadership training program and outdoor education programming, SPL is a leader in experiential education and wilderness vacations. The setting The Boulding family chose well when they picked the site for Strathcona Park Lodge. From almost every room on the property you can get an amazing view of glacier carved valleys, big pristine lakes and rocky/snowcapped peaks. There are several hikes, viewpoints, protected bays and beaches, climbing bluffs, old growth trees, high ropes courses and zip lines -- and that's just on the property. Strathcona Provincial Park, B.C.'s oldest protected area, is just down the road. Within 30 minutes go whitewater paddling, mountain biking, more rock climbing, or lace up for interpretive walks, hikes and mountaineering routes. A little further is world class sea kayaking and whale watching on both sides of Vancouver Island. Summer vacations Perfectly poised between the mountains of Strathcona Provincial Park and a sprawling lake chain the Lodge is an ideal base for exploring the heart of Vancouver Island. Hike, paddle, climb or just sit back and relax on the beach. Stay in lake-side cabins, mountain view chalets or hotel style rooms overlooking it all. Refuel on delicious and healthy food. Disconnect from the wired world and return recharged. Group Gatherings The Lodge loves groups. Big or small, 200 to 10, we have the capacity, facilities and experience to make any gathering unforgettable. Every year we host multiple weddings, family reunions and other large groups on our picturesque and family friendly setting. With a dedicated staff we take care of every detail. Outdoor education/school programs In the spring and fall schools visit Strathcona to learn outside of the classroom. Removed from their everyday, challenged mentally and physically and exposed to new experiences, our specially trained leaders help students gain confidence, leadership, teamwork and camaraderie - skills that can't be learnt from a desk. These are experiences students remember forever. WYLD summer camps A summer camp like no other, Wilderness Youth Leadership Development (WYLD) Expeditions are 8 to 12 day expeditions for adventurous teens, 12 to 17 years old. Based out of the Lodge's lakeside location, the camps explore the hiking trails, lakes, inlets, beaches, islands and mountains of Vancouver Island by foot, sea kayak and canoe. COLT Leadership Semester We believe COLT is the best outdoor leadership program in Canada. Founded in 1977 by Canada's oldest outdoor education centre, COLT is a learn-by-doing program with the best job opportunities, instructors and learning environment. And for the price no other program comes close to offering as much. Participants graduate with hard skills, like sea kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering, whitewater paddling, but even more soft skills, like leadership, group dynamics, teamwork, confidence and determination. ... more   less
