TL;DR: Bed bugs discovered, manager's defensive attitude deters future patronage :( It makes me sad to write this, but, please save yourself money and do yourself a favor... and stay away. Despite initial optimism for the recently renovated August Jack Motor Inn, our stay was marred by the presence of bed bugs. Upon discovering the infestation, I promptly contacted the inn, hoping for a swift resolution. Unfortunately, the manager’s response was defensive and accusatory. Rather than addressing the issue with empathy and professionalism, he insinuated that I was attempting to scam the hotel. Why would I want to pretend I have bed bugs? Why would I spend $800 on bed bug exterminators to get rid of them? I've never had to deal with bed bugs and would never ever want anyone to deal with this. His dismissive attitude and refusal to provide any help has left a really sour taste, deterring any desire to return. 😞 While the location initially appealed to us, the presence of bed bugs (ew ew ew), the smell of cigarettes in the room, coupled with poor customer service has dissuaded us from considering August Jack Motor Inn for future stays. You'll end up spending MORE money trying to get rid of bed bugs while trying to stay somewhere “affordable”. :(

Response from Alex Sadeghi, General Manager at August Jack Motor Inn
Responded 28 Feb 2024
Following your recent communication, we promptly arranged for Orkin to inspect the room in question subsequent to your departure. Their thorough examination revealed no evidence of bed bug infestation. We have also ensured that the detailed report from Orkin was promptly emailed to both yourself and your companion, Eric Neudorf. We understand that tensions may have escalated due to your request for compensation without providing any evidence, particularly when accompanied by references to legal cases, which might understandably be perceived as coercive. However, it is imperative to emphasize that our primary concern remains ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of our guests. It is important to note that prior to your stay, independent third-party inspections had confirmed the absence of any bed bug activity in the room. This reinforces our commitment to maintaining a clean and hospitable environment for all our guests.

We just spent an amazing night at the August Jack--I hadn't been there since last year and the improvements are wonderful! The lobby area is beautifully redone, our room was gorgeous and everything in the kitchenette was new and gleaming. The carpet was new and extremely clean, the bed was so comfortable, and our huge window had a lovely view of the mountains and the holiday decorations outside. We had a little trouble figuring out how to use Roku TV and ended up just watching YouTube on the in-room TV. Wifi was good, and the front desk service was impeccable--they even loaned us an umbrella to take a walk as it was raining. I will absolutely return to the August Jack again when I am in town in the future! Thank you Angela for caring and friendly service, and thank you Alex for your kindness and responsiveness! This motel is a hidden gem in Squamish and deserves all praise.

We checked in around 1pm and the fella was very nice. We got to our room and it's totally fine and located close to everything. We rode right up to our door so we had an easy unload. Big TV and beds are firm and pillows are awesome!! Also had a portable AC unit which did the job for a good night's sleep!

Half the motel is being refurbished but the half in use, whilst dated, was clean and quiet with very welcoming staff. There was plenty of off road parking and one aspect of the building overlooked what could be described as the village green. Pets are welcomed.

I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this place was--I wasn't expecting much, and was dreading a rather cold lonely week staying here while training every day in Whistler. In fact the August Jack was a perfect place to rest and recuperate--it's an easy ten minute walk to the grocery store, and a 20-minute walk to the Adventure Center where the bus picks up/drops off. The whole surrounding neighborhood is full of cute shops and inviting places to eat--wish I had more time here to explore the town! My room was wonderfully spacious with enough floor space for me to stretch, although the carpet is on the older side so I wouldn't lie directly on it. The rest of the room was perfectly clean aside from one small mold issue that the staff was responsive to. I loved having a full kitchenette with dishes/pots and pans and a stovetop, plus full fridge and freezer. The heat in the room was AWESOME, so cozy and warm when I needed it to be. The water in the shower was really hot, and the toiletries were good quality. Wifi worked perfectly and the TV was pretty good quality too with a nice variety of channels. The staff was helpful and courteous. I have already booked my next stay here! Thank you for a great week!

The room smelled of air freshener over smoke though it was supposed to be a non- smoking room. Bed wasn't comfortable and everything seemed very old and worn out. There was nobody there when we arrived to check us in - they apologized for that and were friendly to us. Just not a comfortable experience overall.

Terrible place to stay. The room smells of old smoke. Decor very old and grubby. The tv didn't work The plug in the bathroom didn't work. Kitchenette had the strangest collection of items. Only 1 glass, dirty. No kettle, had to ask for one. It only worked once whilst letting off burning electrical smell. High price. Picked because of location but would advise to stay anywhere but here. Don't think their income is from tourists staying here.

Terrible place to stay in. Rude and unapproachable staff as well. They don’t care about their customer. They know that it’s sunmer and it’s too hot in their room and can’t provide an efan. They provided the second day but it doesn’t even help. If you will book in this hotel think twice, it’s not worth it!!!!!!!

Pleasant enough rooms. I had some stuff stolen from truck in parking lot. Don't leave anything of any value inside vehicles in their parking lot. Seems like a lot of theft happens from there. Some other people had things stolen from outside of their rooms.

We only stayed one night. We were very well received, very kind receptionist. Spacious room, nice beds, delicious shower. The bathroom is small for the size of the room, but that doesn't compromise comfort. Windows with great views, our room had a huge door/window that opened onto a square. It has a volume guard. As we were going to leave our luggage there for a walk, the receptionist offered us a free late checkout, which was very kind of him. I don't think it's always possible, but it was a delicacy. I really liked it and would go back. Fair price for the place, best value for money. Great location, on the main street. There is no breakfast, but there is a great one nearby, also recommended by the receptionist, Big D, very good.
