The Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company is a character northwest inn located in the town centre of Squamish, B.C., a scenic 45 minute drive north of Vancouver, and only 35 minutes south of the resort of Whistler. The Inn offers gorgeous views of the Stawamus Chief, Western Canada's premiere rock climbing venue. Our warm and casual atmosphere provides guests affordable accommodation, with great food and award winning ales brewed on the premise. We're a minute's walk from downtown shops, the local marina and the Squamish Estuary. The estuary offers excellent walking and running trails and is a site for great birding opportunities all year long.

Comfortable, cozy spot with great views. My room was well equipped upon arrival, however, Housekeeping during the week was pretty sad. My room wasn't 'cleaned' the entire week I was there and I had to ask for clean towels, cups, toilet paper and soap. The place needs a fresh coat of paint and thorough cleaning. The staff were pleasant and helpful though, with the exception of the Front Desk Clerk on duty when I checked out who had an attitude and was less then helpful, which soured an otherwise enjoyable stay.

I was so excited to come and stay here as I always wanted to stay overnight at the inn, since I've been to their brewery several times and love the beer.

Overall it is a nice room, but I find it is very dated, and needs a major renovation to demand the $160 that I paid for the night.

I don't normally care about the TV in a room, but when you are given what seems to be a 1st generation 28" flat screen Toshiba TV that is almost blurry and not of good quality, you notice.

Then the major thing in the room is the beds, which I found sub standard compared to other rooms I've stayed in the past few years.

The furniture in the room looks like it was bought down the street from a thrift store and one of the towels in the bathroom had a stain on it.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad room, I've just stayed in much nicer for the same price point, if not lower.

I booked this hotel to be walking distance to visit family. The location is excellent considering it's near the downtown area and several coffee shops and restaurants. The hotel is older and a little rundown. It's clean however and the front desk service is excellent and helpful. Beds are somewhat comfortable and the window seat was a bonus. It's handy having a pub in the same building but also a negative considering the clientele can be very noisy in the evening. As the walls are thin and the windows don't shut tight, one can hear everything and that was a problem for sleeping. Also the patrons of the restaurant don't abide by the distance from the door when smoking or smoking up so the smells waft up through the window and since there's no AC, one usually keeps the windows open. This is a negative for me.
So I probably would not choose this hotel again.

Stayed 3 nights in January 2022. Please note - this review is for the hotel only.

We chose Squamish to avoid paying Whistler prices - all tolled, we probably saved ourselves over $800 by choosing Howe Sound. The rooms are rustic and the furniture is pretty beat up, but it's habitable. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway.

What really knocked 2 stars off this rating, though, is the snow-clearing. Or should I say lack thereof. The "parking" area in front was covered in huge windrows and drifts, which I got hopelessly stuck on prior to leaving one morning. It took 3 people to push it out. The sidewalk in front of the building also had at least 15 cm of snow on it, and their solution to clearing it was to throw ice melter on top of it. Predictably, it only melted a couple of centimetres off the top which promptly froze overnight and made the whole thing very treacherous. We watched several people almost break their necks trying to get in the building. When we asked the front desk about it, their solution was to tell us "Don't worry, it's going to rain in a few days and that will take care of it."

I mean, come on...a snow shovel is only 10 bucks at Crappy Tire...

One can tell the Inn ranks third in place to the Brewery and Restaurant. Great location being close to the Marina for my "sailor hubby" and close to Cleveland for shops for me. There is an elevator but we took the wide stairs where there is a small meeting room. The desk staff were helpful both when we arrived and when we left. There is a 10 pm QUIET policy which is good being on top of a popular pub and restaurant. Parking was in front of hotel and wondering if they now have taken care of snow clearing as per previous review.

I didn't expect a whole lot for what we were paying, but I did expect clean. There was someone else's bra on the shelf, the room stank like smoke, the smoke detector was wrapped in a plastic bag, and the washroom floor has an old bar of soap under the sink.
The room is below basic but the bed was comeforatable.
The staff were friendly and the Pub was awesome.
Will not be staying here again.

23 years later we booked the Howe Sound Inn for a bit of nostalgia on a recent trip to Squamish. The hotel and rooms are EXACTLY the same as our last visit two decades ago-no updates, upkeep or caring staff. The room had the same carpets with the same stains, same decor, paint, and bedding. Shabby doesn’t describe it- rundown and sad, forgotten, and dirty. The staff at the Inn were more than unfriendly and unhelpful; they were apathetic and uncaring. The Fenn family who built the Inn would have been appalled. I was. Won’t be back ever.

We stayed here for a night and we were very satisfied with the hotel. The brewery downstairs had good food and drinks. Location was perfect for walking one of the main streets of Squamish where there were plenty of food options and shopping options.

This place has nice rooms that are comfy and affordable. It is at the end of the main strip in Squamish and easy walking to everything in town. Great brew pub attached and only about 35 mins to Whistler. Fantastic views of The Chief as well.

stayed here one night, very rustic , rooms need some modernization but was quiet, great location, and clean.
there's a restaurant onsite with really good food and great service. it is what it is, a place to lay your head for a good nights sleep. not fancy but gets the job done.
