There were 37 of us booked in for Sunday Lunch. Everything had been nicely laid, but when the organiser wanted changes with coloured napkins the staff could not have been more helpful as they were with the need for table for raffle prizes. Indeed throughout the time there the staff were always charming and helpful. The food was delivered quickly...

We stopped off overnight on our way from Aberdeen to Bristol in December. We chose this inn as it was close to the M6 motorway and it allowed dogs. We were very pleasantly surprised, so much so, that we stopped in for tea on the way home ten days later. The inn is a very old-worldy place with oak beams...

Lovely old Inn. Fine ales and fresh well cooked food. Can highly recommend the pies. Welcoming and pleasant staff. Had 3 great nights and would definitely return. Perfect location for the Lakes, Pennines,Kielder.

I could give chapter and verse, I'll just say that I was booked in for three nights but left after only one! I was of course charged for the three nights regardless. My experience started badly when on arrival I was ignored by the two barmaids, who were doing nothing, for a full 5 minutes before someone else arrived to...

A really quaint and authentic Inn. Built in 1719 the bar retains original features. The bedrooms, however, are very comfortable with ensure facilties. The food W's tasty, plentiful and value for money. The scots lady in charge of (it seemed like everything!) was most welcoming and so friendly and helpful. I would recommend unreservedly and will certainly stay again.

Four ales on hand pull. In theory. Two were off and one wasn't great. Barman was shambolic with a virtually empty bar. Which is a shame as I've been before and it was busy, efficient and with good ales. What's happened?

A lovely quaint old pub dating back several hundred years. We arrived late afternoon and were shown to our room by a lovely scottish lady. She informed us of dining times and breakfast etc. We had a few drinks and asked to eat in the bar which was not a problem. The food was fantastic and the portion sizes very...

A lovely cosy pub, with friendly attentive staff. Basic pub grub at a reasonable price - so you won't go wrong if that's what you're looking. I had a chicken and chorizo burger, and it was excellent - whilst my wife had the cod and chips- very fresh fat fish, so extremely happy. Recommended.

Hard to say anything bad about this wonderful old coaching inn.The location in an idyllic Lakeland village with great views and convenient for the Northern Lakes. Ulswater just down the road. The staff without exception were friendly and helpful and the food and drink excellent and reasonably priced. Small but comfortable bedroom. We will be back.

My husband and I spent one night here, driving down from Glasgow to the North Yorkshire coast. It's two hours from Glasgow Airport which makes it the perfect distance for jet-lagged travellers like us. From first to last, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, settling us into the pub while we waited for our room to be ready, making...
