We went there for an evening dinner on a Friday night The location is great and the waitress was good – but there were production problems in the kitchen. We were told when we arrived that they had lost their sous chef and there would be a 40 minute delay. The delay was more like an hour and a half – the food came out in random manner and was average quality at best. Try elsewhere

Room was on first floor with a balcony. Perfect views over the water to Auckland city. Room was spacious, warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Beds very comfortable and room décor quaint in keeping with the heritage style. If you are looking for chrome, smoke and mirrors don't go there. This is old world charm and a delight at every turn. Period style pictures and pottery are a feast for the eyes. Restaurant was excellent. A new chef has brought world class standard meals which are delicious, different and reasonably priced. Breakfast is a treat especially the mushrooms, just try them, magnificent. I certainly will return. Thank you to the friendly and efficient staff for a relaxing holiday in beautiful Devonpoet.

Lets start with the positive - location location location, and potential............. staff had lovely personality but not hospo trained I would suggest (in a cobb and co sense - not four star style). BUT The rooms are tired, the corridors even more so, the decor very 1980s Cobb and Co, the restaurant and bar areas tired. Needs a HUGE injection of cash, with a developer who is sympathetic to its historic, charm and potential - this could be awesome boutique high end hotel - vs the current Faulty Towers experience. Rates are too high for what this is - if it was around $150NZ a night - expectations would not be so high. I had a room at the back so no street noise which was great - radiators did not work, but staff put another heater in the bathroom and there are electric

We have stayed here twice and enjoyed this hotels location and its access to the ferries to Waiheke and Auckland. Our last visit will probably be just that as the lift was terminally out of order and we had a room on the top floor! The building is full of character but lack of spending on it means standards are on the slide and it has reached the point where it’s difficult to justify the rates being charged. Furnishings are old fashioned rather than characterful. Breakfast isn’t the best but is ok. Time to relocate elsewhere in this very pleasant suburb.

When taking the ferry to Devonport for the day I had to step into this beautiful heritage hotel and the main floor is gorgeous to walk through. Edwardian architecture and beautiful ambience. I sat at an outside table and had wine and cheese board overlooking the water and the city view. This hotel dates back to 1903 and should not be missed to take a look at the inside.

We booked for 4 adults at 1.30pm. Saw people in by the fire inside,it appeared very quiet. After ordering we waited 40 minutes, one meal arrived without any cutlery.Had to go and find staff for these items and drinking water The food was very average to poor.Being a Friday afternoon and so much other choice in Devonport, this could do so much better in the prime position it has.

Great location near ferry terminal, restaurants, cafe’s and bars. Unique shopping and art galleries nearby. Exterior looks great, interior was outdated, dirty and unacceptable. More of an older male environment. Lack of commitment from reception to understand guests concerns. Photos complete the story!

We were greeted and served by a lovely efficient waitress yesterday morning. We ordered breakfast of toast and granola muesli. An extremely disappointing breakfast was served to us - it was like they made it up as they went along! Would not recommend dining here.

We had another fabulous stay at the Esplanade Hotel, in one of the sunroom suites on the first floor - both highly recommended, but room 105 is our favourite view. The Esplanade is a lovely old hotel with character, great bar with a fire and I particularly like the cozy club room if you like a game of chess or scrabble. The Esplanade is not a formal hotel - don’t expect Hilton-like service, but it’s charming and you’ll feel like a regular after just one night. Recommend that you enjoy your breakfast on the front porch. The Esplanade is perfectly positioned if you want/need to visit Auckland CBD, with the excellent ferry service just across the road.
