We booked a two night stay the room was amazing the views of the harbour and auckland were breathtaking. The room was awesome although the windows were dirty and the bathroom could have been cleaner. The staff were friendly enough. We booked a table for dinner outside which they said was OK but when we turned up for dinner there...

Many thanks for your comments and I hope you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately, we cannot book the outside tables, only the inside ones. this should have been explained to you and I apologise if it wasn't. We are proud to offer our 'free' a la carte breakfast to our guests. Thanks again.

Pub food is traditionally "hit and miss" but the Esplanade Hotel is definitely a "hit!" Tried the Mussels and Chips between Christmas and New Year. Wow, what a delicious surprise! The bucket of Mussels was huge and more than enough to satisfy two hungry seafood aficionados. Cannot wait to go back and do the Mussels again but might be tempted...

Caught the ferry over from the Auckland CBD to Devonport to check out the village atmosphere. Looked around the shops and then decided to have lunch at the Esplanade Hotel. Apparently built around the 1900's it has a number of period features including high pressed metal ceiling and large windows. We decided to have the shared sea food plate for...

The hotel is well situated for the ferry to Auckland and immediately adjacent to a pleasant park. At lunchtime on a cool day, this was just what we needed. Initially we pulled some tables together outside to review the menu which included some tasty snacks. Bless her, the young lady who served us didn't actually know what a Croque Monsieur...

We booked a Flagstaff Room via a booking platform and checked the hotels website -- from the reviews and website impression we thought to stay at a classy hotel. That was not the case -- we got a room where the only clean thing seemed to be the bed, otherwise spider webs around the window, and dirty grouts in the...

Many thanks for your review. The room you booked was the cheapest one in the hotel and so it is the smallest. The outside is a disused fire escape which is still attached and is not for use. Most of the fire escapes had been removed many years ago but somehow the rear ones were left. This was the last...

Despite Central Devonport having been transformed into a miniature Hong Kong-style construction hub, I had a really good stay here again recently. It was the elevated quality of the staff which made all the difference. We experienced very friendly greetings at the Reception Desk and were made to feel welcome by all and sundry.

This hotel is really good especially if you don't want to stay in Auckland and you can easily get a ferry into the city! The rooms were good and so was the breakfast, that was my favorite part of the day! Delicious breakfast! The bed was comfortable, good night sleep besides the construction outside! It was so noisy! Other than...

Thanks for your review and we appreciate the comments and feedback. Unfortunately, no one told us that Watercare was upgrading a watermain until it happened. A liaison helped to reduce the hours of work so most was done in the daylight hours. All the best and we welcome you staying again,

A 10 minute ferry ride from Auckland harbour is Devonport, a charming town. The Esplanade Hotel is equally charming with a modern yet classic feel. Great location for drinks or dinner, good service and friendly staff.

Great location overlooking Auckland city. Great food although we had made a booking for a specific table with a view and when we arrived another couple were seated there, the staff wouldn't move them. Very disappointing to say the least.

Thanks, yes that is always disappointing when we think we have booked a special table. Unfortunately we can never guarantee bookings and this should have been made known to you. We do try and allocate to particular needs but often early diners just stay longer to enjoy the Esplanade's charms. We can't then just move them on. And I suspect...
