This place has a great feel to it. I travelled solo but made friends in no time. Everybody was in a good mood enjoying there holiday in beautiful Switzerland. The hostel has good amenities to the place such as it's own Nightclub, which was fun and often crowded. Bar and outside Beer Garden with Grill and other things to keep you entertained. How it looks, alpine style in most places. Great place to stay.

Very fun hostel. My friend and I got a private room. Showers were always hot and they had converters we could borrow. The rentable lockers were handy to store our things before check in so we could go right out and sightsee. The hammock room is very cool. The crowd tends to be younger. Many study abroad students on weekends and weekdays it was quiet.

I've seen some poor reviews and just want to set expectations: if you're looking for a hotel-like experience, you should keep searching. If you have stayed at a number of hostels in the past, this one has definitely got some charm. It's clean and very welcoming - definitely encourages mingling amongst travelers. There's several different buildings that are connected via common courtyard, and each building had a bit of a different feel since it's developed over time. There's a number of rooms to hang out on the first floor - some super comfy couches for reading, a game room, and it connects to the courtyard with a fire pit, an outdoor bar and outdoor picnic tables. The kitchen is convenient and clean, with an eating room attached, near the breakfast area. The main building where I stayed had a very alpine feel which was fun - just be mindful of the uneven floors and disconnected stairwells as there seems to have been several generations of additions. Again, very charming! The photos online are definitely taking advantage of good lighting and camera angles, but it was still a lovely experience. Fun quirk: the lock on the room doors are very old school - it's a proper key that you have to lock both from the inside and out at JUST the right angle. Great staff! Super friendly and helpful.

My husband and I stayed here in a double room and we really enjoyed it. The staff were amazing and very helpful with any questions we had. It is in a good location with a bus stop less than a minute away which can take you to both train stations or to Lauterbrunnen, or it’s about 10-15 minutes walk to town. Everything was clean and warm, the beds were comfortable and the showers were good. Would definitely stay here again!

Balmers hostel was not at all what we expected. I would say it’s very average so be prepared for exactly that. We were in a 10 person dorm and I basically shared a bed with a random I didn’t know, just barely separated by a dividing piece of wood. It was highly uncomfortable and definitely wasn’t described as such on our booking site, or alluded to us in reception that the bedding would be this way. Also, the mattresses are almost paper thin, to the point you can feel the bed base, so overall it was not a comfortable stay. The showers don’t have hot water, no one in our room was capable of getting the water warm our entire stays. An issue that needs to be sorted. Breakfast was included which was great, points for balmers, although it also was super average. Basically just toast and cereal, with not a lot of spread options for the toast, and cereals were a corn flake and granola type choice, which don’t offer much interest. Also, lots of stealing happens from the communal kitchen. I brought with me a lot of groceries due to the expensiveness of switzerland and most of my groceries were stolen, even when clearly labelled and dated. The kitchen seating area was also always filthy, rarely got cleaned and there was always food and scraps on the tables and floors no matter what time of the day. Further, the bin in our dorm room was not emptied the entire 4 days we stayed there and as a result the room had lots of small fruit flies. It is however, in a great location, conveniently located to everything which would be its main and possibly only draw point.
