Outstanding service and attention to detail. They are very well prepared for the fact that most guests stay here just to leave early in the morning to see Gurudongmar lake. The tariff was inclusive of all meals but given the paucity of any viable meal options nearby, this works out well. The quality of food is superb and the wait staff are attentive. They served us an Indian buffet for dinner with adequate choices. They packed us breakfast to take with us and served lunch when we came back, even though we had checked out of our rooms in the morning when we left for the lake. It is a very beautiful property and I'm just sad that we hadn't chosen to stay longer. Both the general area and this particular location at the top of the hill have fantastic views. The rooms are spacious and ours was on the second floor with a spectacular view of the mountains. Each room has an electric heater and an electric blanket. A particularly thoughtful touch was the staff coming around to each room at night and offering a flask of hot water. I would happily stay here again and for a longer period. …
I think this is one of the best in lachen. The staff is very cordial and do their best in such challenging conditions. Food is good too and they provide packed breakfast for early morning gurudongmar lake visit. Room heaters and bed warmer are a real blessing. Of course they don't work of there is a paper cut which is understandable. There is quite a bit of climbing to your rooms and certainly not suited for elderly or someone who has issues with climbing. We loved our stay here.
An excellent hotel at such far off place , there is nothing adverse to write. Spacioys rooms with double bed , sitting area with sofa and additional sitting area near window to have nice valley view. Fresh linen and towels, toiletries, hot water geyser, Ekectric bed warming mattress, room heater, tea kettle. A very tasty food. Buffet dinner was north Indian style with 5/6 veg items & non veg was served on table. As everyone leaves early Morning packed breakfast is provided. Lunch was Chinese very tasty. The fish preparation was excellent. Staff are very polite and helpful. Words are short to explain the hospitality provided. Hats off to management.
5 star rating is less for this place! Its a unique combination of location, scaping, comfort and hospitality. We had stayed in this place for 2 nights and if possible, wouldn't mind spending couple of more days. This is an absolute boutique hotel at top-of-hill in Lachen. You don't expect such a beautiful hotel in a remote hamlet of Sikkim. The hotel is built with excellent land scaping, mostly built in stone and wood, highlighted with Tibetan architecture. Rooms are cozy and comfortable with excellent view of hills which surround this hotel. Staff is simply superb and extremely cooperative, always ready to help. Dining area is also kept and warm and welcoming where home-style food is served. Manager of the hotel is gem of a person and ensures that every guest is given the best hospitality. Just visit the place if you enjoy solitude and peace. You will always like to come back to this place! If you have elders with you and need easy access to hotel and rooms, you may not like to stay here as to reach hotel or rooms you have to climb few stone clobbered steps.…
The property is a bit of a climb from the drop off point. Said that, it’s worth it. What stands out is: -Attitude and service orientation of the staff - Customised meals (packed lunch and breakfast ) - Punctuality of the staff - Comfortable warm rooms in subzero temperatures Special mention of Manager Kumar.
My wife and I stayed at the Apple Orchard on 14-16 November and I must say that we were blown away by the service. The manager Kumar, the chef and the staff are so well-organised and good that we loved every minute spent at the hotel. They went above and beyond what was required of them. The food was great as well. They made sure they took care of all our needs and were very attentive at all times.
Stayed in this hotel in November 2021 You have to walk a bit to reach hotel as cars cant reach till hotel. The view, food, hospitality and service is absolutely excellent. One of the good resort in Sikkim.
Apple orchard is the one of the best resorts in sikkim. The views, food, hospitality and attention to detail is absolutely excellent. Mr Kumar and all the staff are extremely courteous. The food is one of the best we had in all of sikkim. Definitely recommend to everyone visiting Lachen
Reached this place after a 6 hour drive from Gangtok, it was past sunset and due to the horrendous roads in sikkim (I’d just stay away from Sikkim from hereon), we were all but broken bones when we reached here. There is not even a proper road as approach to this restaurant. On reaching, was surprised to find out that one had to climb 30 very steep steps to reach the entrance. After checking in, was even more disappointed when manager asked us to move into a room that was atop another hill (another 50 steps with steep incline). Whoever designed this hotel was out of his mind to put tired customers through this every time. Cost: Ridiculously high cost of room (9.5k plus 4.2k for children per night). At this cost, one can enjoy a 7-star experience in any city. Food: Having paid a fortune, one would expect a 7-star, at least a 5-star food experience, but no, food is meagre at best. Lunch left overs are used for dinner. Its hardly a 4-5 item meal. Manager has been well trained to make constant and consistent excuses that its a remote area, tough to find fruits and vegs, limited supply, blah blah… Wonder why they didn’t think of this when charging a 7-star price. Also wonder if they’d accept excuses about making full payments. They don’t even have Wifi after a ripoff room cost. A positive note to the cook, who was humble and tried to please us as best as he could. Next day, entire Latchen was blacked out communication wise. All mobile providers stalled. Even the manager’s phone wasn’t working. Manager matter of factly dismissed the importance of having connectivity to the world. It turns out BSNL was the only mobile provider active and manager doesnt even have a BsNL number. Very petty. Bottom line, it may be the best hotel in Lachen, but is comparable to a shed in a city. Beware if you are heading from an urban location, even dangerous if visiting from a foreign country. If you do end up going here, at least be prepared to expect peanuts at the cost of gems and a plethora of excuses and every hour for everything. Never dare go here if you have family (kids or elders). For the elderly, climbing up all the way to entrance and then the rooms might just take you closer to a heavenly abode. I saw many families crib and cry at the state of things around when I was there, so I’m sure I wasn’t the only one disappointed or with these views of this place. I was shocked when manager said that it was travel agents fault for not advising customers of this high elevation problem. And last but not least, the bathroom door is only 5 feet tall for no reason. I banged my head at least thrice during my stay and witnessed at least 5 others injure themselves. When questioned, manager said this is how it was all the time and they didn’t find labor to fix it, despite him acknowledging it was a genuine construction mistake. …
We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff is so warm and hospitable while being professional. Mr Sarma the manager, Mr Tapan the chef and Mr Ugendar the waiter gave us excellent service that made our stay delightful. The weather was a dampener as it rained through out our stay but the staff and the curated delicacies more than made up for it. We hope to be back in summer for a week.
