I don't expect much from HIE, but this particular one is pretty bad even by their standards. The toilet in my room was broken (they did move me to another room, though), some other guests complained about dirty blankets...
This hotel is greatly! From friendly front desk staff to nicely furnished rooms . Evening cookies and milk , the excellent gentleman working the delicious morning breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel when traveling the WA. and the Spokane Valley area. 45min from Idaho.
Our room was spacious and comfortable. It had a desk, easy chair, king bed, and a credenza which held the fridge and microwave. There was a Keurig coffee maker on the desk. Our room even had a little balcony with a chair. There were warm chocolate chip cookies in the evening, a very nice touch. But just an observation: why do hotels offer only chocolate chip cookies? Granted it is the most popular flavor of cookie, but some folks (my husband included) cannot have chocolate. Anyway, a very nice and thoughtful custom. Breakfasts at Holiday Inn Express are my favorite of any hotel chain, mostly because of the fresh cinnamon rolls, which the attendant refreshes often, along with the other hot items (eggs, meat, biscuits and gravy). There is even a pancake maker, which does everything by itself, including shooting the finished pancake out on the counter (be careful where you place your waiting plate!) And of course there is a selection of juice, cereal, muffins, toast, bagels, many toppings, etc. Ice machines are available on each floor, but pop and snack vending machines have been replaced by a little c-store in the lobby. This is ok, but it necessitates a trip to the lobby, not just down the hall. And the store was out of regular Coke, making a trip across the street to the gas station necessary. The staff was very friendly, and I try to be extra nice when I check in, as they surely contend with crabby travelers who are tired from traveling. Now the only downside of this property: If your room is on the north side of the building (as ours was), you are facing I-90 and two very busy streets and all that entails...noisy cars, motorcycles, semi-trucks, sirens, etc. Also, there are train tracks about half a mile north, which provides lots of crossing whistles. The hotel cannot help these conditions, but this is just a warning about room location. It is a high-rise with an elevator, but first floor rooms have outside entrances.
This the second time I stayed at the hotel. It is a nice facility and close to things, easy access to freeway. The only reason this hotel did not get 5 starts is because they did not read the special request I put it my reservation. On hindsight next time I will call the hotel myself instead of conclude staff reads the special request. The beds were great and the rooms are quite.
We agree with other reviewers: The Spokane Valley Holiday Inn express (HIE) truly is wonderful. We've stayed in a lot of mediocre HIEs over the years and decided to stay in this one because of its relatively close proximity to friends that we were visiting. The three night hotel stay truly exceeded our expectations.
In addition to a relatively low prices, here are the things we liked about it: *Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. * The room was relatively large and appointed with nice dark furniture. * The bed was new (according to sign in the room) and was quite comfortable, as were the pillows. *The room has a nice size refrigerator and two chairs. *There was adequate storage space for hanging clothes. *The shower was quite good and easy to operate. *The breakfast buffet had options for nontraditional eaters, like egg white and vegetable omelettes. *We could recharge our devices at any of the three light fixtures in the room. *Relatively new equipment in the fitness center.
We loved our stay at the HIE Spokane Valley and recommend it strongly.
