We loved our four nights at Pilgerhaus in February 2019. It was the perfect staging point to visit all the holy sites in Galilee. And the hospitality was outstanding. Great food, a warm welcome. (Not to mention the expansive and inviting deck, overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Wonderful for fellowship!) Overall, a great place to encounter God’s mystery...and to feel the invitation to draw near!

I chose this place for a weekend away desptie the relatively high pricing as I read about it being a quiet, serene place ideal for solitude and meditation, etc., given its monastic associations. Alas, despite the no-doubt beautiful surroundings, there is not much anything monastic about this place at all (maybe except for the lack of TV sets in the rooms), which seems to be very popular with Israeli families, who come to enjoy the beach downstairs from the accommodation. So unfortunately there was not much quiet to truly enjoy the charm of the place. Admittedly, I was there on a Jewish holiday weekend, so it could be that at other times the place is more quiet, and can truly serve its potential for those seeking tranquility and quietude.

Our church group scheduled a lunch at the restaurant, which is a large modern facility. They served many mezze with pita bread and then we had a choice of chicken or whole fish. I chose the fish, tilapia that came with French fries. My fish was quite good, steamy hot and moist (as opposed to USA tilapia that has been previously frozen). Others in the group found the fish dry... I suppose it depended upon the size of your fish or the time between cooking and serving. Anyway, it looks like a nice place.

I wouldn't agree with the "romantic" description as all rooms have twin beds and the dining hall has communal tables. The rooms otherwise are simple, but excellent and updated. There's a cozy bar area with a patio for warmer weather, also a chapel for groups. Yes, the rooms have hair dryers and small toiletries. This hotel is really designed for tour and church groups. No, the bar prices aren't outrageous. Maybe they've adjusted the prices over the past year, or the reviewers were confusing shekels with dollars. A glass of wine was about $10- and a bottle $25-30. The food is simple but good, but lacks the choices you'd find in a restaurant. Breakfast leans more to the German (cold meats, cheese, salads, boiled eggs, limited pastries). The location is excellent for tour groups visiting sites around Galilee.

I will decribe the place amazing because my photos will speak for itself. The room is simple, but you have everything you need. There’s no TV, because really you shld not need one. The food was excellent, breakfast and dinner. The surrounding area of this place is just beautiful. Explore and catch the sunrise by the Sea of Galilee. Had such an amazing experience. The gift shop have good prices as well and attended by wonderful nuns.
