Guana Island is a truly unique location. It's more of an oasis than a typical resort. You can enjoy experiences like trekking and a variety of water sports there, or you can just relax and decompress. You can have the impression that you are on your own private island because they don't have many rooms/guest capacity . They pick you up in a boat and greet you with beverages and other amenities when you arrive at their dock. You are given a rundown of how things operate and given a tour of the facilities and your accommodation. Gourmet food is always served. The majority of necessities are available in the bars. The hotel's culture is such that you can create your own drink, or you can ask the bartender to prepare one for you. You can choose to socialize or not at mealtimes. It's arranged so you can share a table or have a private supper. There is a great view from every table in the restaurant. The waters of the main beach are turquoise with white sand. Their trekking paths are thrilling and challenging. We are grateful to Nicole in the office for looking after us and providing assistance as needed. We appreciate Kathleen, the head server at the restaurant, for her kindness and lovely voice. I appreciate Sampson, our favorite bartender, choosing out coconuts for me and having a thoughtful conversation. I appreciate Rufus's kind nature and our wonderful chat. Also thanks to Eric at the orchard for showing us around.

We visited Guana Island with my 79 year old mother and our two adult children. It was the perfect place for our multigenerational group. We stayed in the Jost Villa which was the largest on the island with 4 bedrooms and incredible views and a beautiful half-moon shaped infinity pool. The setting was much more beautiful than expected from the photos on the website. The island is an idyllic place for people who value privacy, minimalism, tradition, unspoiled natural beauty and dining on exquisitely prepared food. We enjoyed the cocktail hour before dinner where guests were expected to dress in smart casual attire and could gather to meet other guests many of whom had been frequenting the island for years. We spent the mornings tackling rugged and very challenging hikes and the afternoons swimming and kayaking at the beach. We were unable to snorkel because the sea was quite rough. The most appealing part was the absence of single use plastics as there is a water filtration system on the whole island and the reverence for preserving the diverse environment where native flora and fauna thrive and the complete lack of commercialism. This is a unique destination perfect for those seeking connection with nature, peace and quiet, seclusion, culinary excellence and attentive but un-intrusive service.

My husband and I just got back from what was probably our 10th year at Guana Island d the wonderful private island resort in the British Virgin Islands. We stayed at the North Beach Cottage as we always do and it was beautiful, luxurious, worth every penny, healing, restorative, de-stressing and everything else wonderful and words can’t really describe it. The cottage is a dream located right on the half mile long stretch of the North Beach. We don’t swim at that beach - there’s another perfect swimming beach 5 minutes from the cottage but the private pool is right next to the ocean and every morning we would do water workouts in it and there’s no better place to get your daily exercise. The cottage has perfect views in every room of the ocean and the hillsides. The staff is very attentive in a low keyed way - this is “quiet luxury” at its finest. Makes you feel like a celebrity. This resort is very addictive and we’ve booked our stay for next year again cause we just can’t stay away

Positives: It is a beautiful island. Great hiking. Fascinating wildlife (Iguanas, snakes, pelicans, and turtles). A stunning white sand beach and turquoise sea, great for swimming and water sports (although the sun umbrellas are small so there is a shortage of shade if you do not like sitting in the sun). The local staff are lovely, so kind and hard working. We particularly enjoyed meeting and sitting each evening with interesting people at communal dinner tables.
Unfortunately, there were some big negatives. The resort sells itself on providing "tranquillity in an unspoiled setting". However, our peace was disturbed in several ways: 1. Screaming young children. The resort has relaxed its policy and now accepts children all year round. A teenager even played music through portable speakers on the beach one day. Parents seemed oblivious to how this affected other guests. 2. A large group of 14 (three generations of one family) were very noisy. They all sat at one table for dinner and together on the beach. We were placed on the next table to them one evening and could hardly hear each other speak. The resort did not warn us in advance about this group, or we would have cancelled. We have since been told that family groups are common on Guana Island. 3. Diesel-fuelled jeeps, emitting a lot of unpleasant noise and fumes, roared up and down the hill and outside our room. Hardly in keeping with the Resort's claim to be eco-friendly.
Contrary to previous rave food reviews, we were disappointed. Meat and fish were often overcooked and dry, and desserts tended to be rather bland. Several repeat guests agreed that food quality had deteriorated. In the Caribbean we expect lots of fresh fruit at breakfast, but it was surprisingly limited. Guana is the first resort we have stayed at that never offered even bananas at breakfast.

Response from Guana Island, Other at Guana Island
Responded 12 Feb 2024
Dear Bear99, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay. I’m sorry to hear that the experience didn’t live up to your expectations and that we didn’t solve these problems to your satisfaction while you were on-island. I understand that you are already in touch with your travel agent and appreciate you sharing feedback with me via email as well. I shall also address your feedback here for clarity. Our policy on young children and family groups hasn’t changed in over 10 years. While this isn’t typically problematic, I realized that the 2 young children and family on island during your stay impacted your enjoyment and we are looking at how to better manage these elements in the future during the rare instances that it happens. We strive to prepare fresh organic meals and I’m sorry that we didn’t meet your standard. I will be meeting with the culinary department and our newly arrived pastry chef to ensure that these shortfalls are corrected. We aim to restrict our reliance on imported fruits and rely on our own organic orchard. Sadly while our banana supply is abundant the ripening schedule can occasionally leave us short. Our owners' commitment to being an eco-friendly island has encompassed many elements from being only 1% developed to a conservation program that has covered everything from marine to flora and fauna. In recent years we have transitioned to electric golf carts but found ourselves with waste batteries that have no recycling options in the BVI and we started reverting back to clean burning gas/petrol powered golf carts and mules. Yours sincerely, Andrew Marston Managing Director

The experience of Guana Island is amazing! The staff go above and beyond to make your trip enjoyable. Sampson was our favorite host at the beach every day. There is a perfect mix of available activities and relaxation. White Bay Beach has the softest sand and clearest water. There is not a bad view on the entire island. This is the most unique all-inclusive resort with amazing food from chef Clayton. The menus are curated to the guests and different every day. The seafood options were our favorite and the best we’ve had. The meals are scheduled at certain times of the day at the clubhouse but they also offer to bring your lunch to the beach. We enjoyed the breaks for meals and helped us plan out our days. They make it easy to socialize with other guests at cocktail hour and optional group dining which helped us meet some amazing people on our trip. The rooms are private and we were able to watch the sunset over the water on our terrace. The island is buggy at night but they provide bug spray in every room and in common areas. We enjoyed the iguanas on the island and they were never a bother to us. We would definitely recommend exploring the island and doing an Orchard Tour. This was truly a dream honeymoon and we hope to be back in the future!

Guana Island is a beautiful private island with a great location, stunning views and villas, a gourmet food experience and some of the friendliest staff you will ever experience. We cannot recommend it enough. It is only about a 10 minute boat ride from Tortola and you are suddenly being pampered in incredibly beautiful and comfortable surroundings. We cannot imagine a more perfect experience.

Whenever someone asks about Guana Island, I always say "It's not for everyone, but it's perfect for us!" If you want non stop entertainment, shopping, TV, crowds, etc., go elsewhere. But if you like nature at its finest, quiet, a perfect beach, great food, etc., you've found the right place
Once again, we had the pleasure of staying on Guana Island in July 2021 after having to postpone our 2020 trip five times due to the pandemic. Jason Goldberg is always at the top of his game to arrange the perfect trip and reaccomodating you when plans change for various reasons - all you have to do is call him at the 800# or send him an e-mail. He truly makes everything happen.
We also had the unusual pleasure of staying in two separate rooms this time around. While G2 has been our favorite due to the wonderful breezes, especially at night, we also were able to spend four delightful days in the 2 bedroom North Beach Cottage with its own private pool. While G2 is a stones throw from the main building, the NBC comes equipped with its own golf cart so you don't have to climb the 700 ft from its location to the main building or to get to the beach on the other side of the island. NBC is the perfect place for people who may want extra privacy. It comes with a great kitchen!
As always, the staff is top notch. Everyone is on a first name basis and it truly feels homey. The meals excellent with your choice of Meat, Fish or Vegetarian for lunch and dinner and great choices for breakfast. If you have a special dietary request, it's easily taken care of. Chef Miguel has been doing an excellent job in the kitchen.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The beds are the perfect firmness. The shower is hot with plentiful water. A/C and ceiling fans do the trick.
Sylvia is the best down at the beach. Whether is lunch or drinks or getting you to where you need to go, she is there to help with a smile. The private beach is the best in the BVI. We spent all day, every day at the beach
There are numerous hiking trails around the island and, in non-pandemic times, various trips to the other islands are easily arranged. All you have to do is ask. You also have a beach side spa with menu choices for everyone.
I cannot recommend Guana more. It is truly our favorite spot for well deserved down time. Our hat is off to the entire gang for making us feel so welcome during a difficult time in the world.

Guana Island Resort is the most exclusive piece of Paradise that is beyond words. The beauty of White Bay Beach and the resort situated atop the hill with gorgeous sea views all around is breathtaking. The staff go above and beyond to care for all your needs and the privacy between all the cottages makes you feel like you are on your own private island. We worked with the wedding staff that made everything stress free for our private ceremony and romantic candlelit dinner for two in the Garden of Eden. The meals were exquisite and we only wish we had more time to basque in the glory of this beautiful resort.

My wife and I discovered Guana Island while visiting the BVI back in Feb 2017. We spoke to Jason located in Washington, DC when we first phoned Guana Island and, asked pertinent questions about the resort's amenities and accommodations. When we called him in Oct 2023 to book our stay on Guana, he recommended the Lower Camanoe room because of the fantastic view and sunsets. He was spot on with his choice for us after he and I spoke over the previous 3-4 years 4-5 times...finding out about what our most important concerns about our vacation experiences - likes and must-haves.
The customer experience on Guana is the best my wife and I have experienced anywhere on the planet. You're always made to feel special by every service team member. Each and every one of them goes above and beyond to create the very best vacation experience for their guests. We cannot wait to return for our next visit to Guana Island.

My husband and I finally booked this dream trip and went in May of 2024. The best description we’ve heard and used to describe Guana is a bed and breakfast on a private island.
We stayed in Anegada 3, which is a suite with a private pool. The room is very charming and the views from the pool were incredible.
As a busy couple with jobs and children, this trip was a complete sensory vacation. The rooms don’t have televisions, the restaurant doesn’t have background music …it’s just the sounds of birds, waves against the shore, and the low murmur of other voices at dinner over candlelight.
We stayed for 4 nights. The first day was a complete beach day and spa appointments. Even in the spa there are no sound machines or music playing because there doesn’t need to be, the treatment room is just off the beach and the sound of the ocean and birds in the trees are dreamy and exactly what other spas try to recreate! The second day we did the Pyramid hike, the farm tour, had lunch at the beach bar and enjoyed the beach the rest of the afternoon. The third day we did a boat tour that the office arranged. We were able to visit the Baths at Virgin Gorda, snorkel st the Pyramids and a few other spots, and had lunch st Norman Island. This was a great trip. Every afternoon before cocktails, we would relax in the private pool (definitely worth the upgrade).
We enjoyed all of the meals at Guana. We finished our trip with a private dinner in the Garden of Eden. It was very beautiful and we enjoyed the experience.
We have already booked our return trip and I can’t wait for our next adventure!

Not for questions or reservations. Jason Goldberg at the 800 number is a former resident manager and now world-wide reservationist. He's not in NY, but no one knows the island better.
There are more places to choose from in the Guana Island area.
