I first wrote an e-mail without receiving any reply. After two days I decided to pop in anyway without any booking and I was happy to see that the Finca was working. I was offered a simple private room with double bed, very clean bedsheets and towel, mosquito net and fan which I didn't use : 8 usd. incl. good breakfast. I had dinner twice and it was tasty with an excellent watermelon juice, all for 150 córdobas. The Finca is very clean and so are the showers and bathrooms. Wifi working well. The place is one km up from the road and is nicely quiet. I stayed 3 nights : the first two nights we were only 2 tourists, the third we were 4. On Sunday I climbed Volcán Maderas with one guide, 3 hours 20' to go up and more to come down ! 8 hours in total, unfortunately the crater lake was covered by fog. The day after I rented a bicycle in the village and went to kayak in the río Istian, 8 km from Balgüe. The 26 families working for this cooperative really deserve your support as they also clean and prepare the path through the jungle up to the volcano.

We visited Finca Maglalena a couple of times on our way to Finca Bona Fide next door. They had refreshing drinks and clean restrooms, both of which are a plus, especially while travelling. The dining room is on a large, open porch which overlooks the semi-wooded area, full of beautiful plants and flowers. It's pretty rustic, but that's fitting for the area.

This old farm has been divided in sleeping rooms. We stayed in a private room, but the privacy is only visual. The walls are that thin that you know well what goes on in the other rooms ;-) They serve OK food, but it's not cheap for what it is. The location is perfect to go on a hike on the volcano: they are on the path that leads you to the top.

We stayed here for 2 nights during our recent trip to Ometepe island. This place is great! Beautiful landscaping, friendly staff, great views, cheap decent food. Nora was very sweet and helpful. It is definitely an “early to bed, early to rise” kind of place. The staff is up and making quite a bit of noise by 7am so don’t plan on sleeping in! (But really you won’t want to! There’s so much to see and do on this beautiful island!)

We arrived at the finca with the plan of staying for 2 or 3 nights and ended up staying for 8!!! The finca is set in lush forest, surrounded by animals on the lower slopes of volcán maderas. It is a 1 kilometre walk from the main road and is worth the effort you put into it. The food is good and the staff friendly and helpful but mostly you are left to be as you wish in the environment. We have read a few reviews here complaining about the amenities, bugs in the bathroom, simple accommodation etc... for us this is missing the point of the finca; it is a farm, set far from the main tourist area and surrounded by nature. Everything is open air so yes there are bugs, there is no music playing but even better; you are surrounded by the cacophony of the forest and for the walk up the gentle hill to the finca you get wonderful views over volcán Concepcion and the beautiful sunsets. If your looking for a peaceful stay in a beautiful setting then look no further. If you're looking for party vibes or need your creature comforts maybe look elsewhere!

I absolutely loved this place and ended up staying longer the originally planned. It's basically an old farmhouse with tonnes of character, huge spaces, stunning views of the gardens and the volcano and delicious food. The people are also really friendly and helpful.

Lovely place with amazing food for cheap and it has the best access if you are going to hike volcan maderas. Amazing view of volcan Conception during the sunset! We saw howling monkeys just in the forest nearby. Very spartan rooms and amenities but you'll get to experience the real life of nicaraguan farmers. Discreet personnel that has been always friendly and helpful during our 3 days stay. Support this reality!

I stayed here so I could go birding on the evenings and early mornings. It's in a great location, literally at the trailhead up to Maderas. It's reasonably high up on the volcano and so it stays cool and fresh. The accommodations are rustic, but it is a neat historic Cafetale/Finca. Adequate conditions and with a fan and bug net, what else could you ask for. WiFi was good coverage throughout grounds (Yay for wood buildings, the wifi has not problems in rooms). Property is beautiful and porch is huge with a great Vista. Plenty of hammocks around. Birding is world class FYI, exceptional conditions and good trails.

Amazing breakfast and coffee for incredibly cheap. Easy access by a dirt road, adequate living situation. Sip coffee on the porch in the morning and watch the monkeys then take a bus from just down the road and enjoy the rest of the island. Minutes away from the water and a beautiful view of both volcanoes.
