I stayed in "Asi es mi tierra" the first time in December 2020. Because I had enjoyed it a lot, I came back for my second stay in April 2021. (Both times I lived there for about a month.) Me and my boyfriend had a little cabin with a private bathroom surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers with the occacional colibri. Since there were almost no tourists in the hostel it was really peaceful. The owners are a lovely family with three generations, always helpful and friendly. They even shared their kitchen with us. "Asi es mi tierra" is the hostel I liked best during my time in Nicaragua and I can only recommend it. Hope to come back one day!
I am sure that every hostel on Ometepe has its own flavor. I had to escape a beautiful hostel down the road -- El Pital -- because although stunning and popular, it did not give me the quiet environment I needed, nor did the WiFi reach me where I slept. So I couldn't stay in my room studying because there was no WiFi, but if I ventured to the common area, it was too distracting for me to focus. Asi Es Mi Tierra gave me that quiet haven I needed. I was able to stay in my room as needed allowing me to study with WiFi, and I could use the common areas as well. There were hammocks, which were relaxing. There was a lady who stayed there every year for 14 years with her hubby. This year was the first year in a while he did not come because of work. But she still made the trek. As far as food goes, Mi Tierra (that's what I call it, pardon my gringo ways) they serve food which is simple and delicious. It's a select menu, but the food is always good. In addition, there are restaurants that are excellent and not too far: El Bambo and Café Campestre (both have adult beverages). If you want more traditional fare, Café Comedor Isabel has Traditional Nica Food, and it is very close as well. You should know that Fernando and the staff can make anything happen in terms of experiences. If they can't do it, they will at least point you in the direction of the people that can. Another thing is that they are extraordinarily accomodating. My first room had a problem, and they immediately fixed it. It was amazing. Fernando speaks English very well, by the way.…
We went to Asi es mi Tierra for breakfast, first thing that took our attention was the red truck on front of the place! It’s not a big menu but perfect for breakfast and offers just that what you need including good coffee! We also booked a personal tour with Razta, in the red truck!! He took us to San Ramon and waited there until we made it back, about 4 hours in our case. After that we decided to skip the next part of our tour, kayaking on the river, we were exhausted! Instead we just stayed in Playa de Mango, amazing place with good food and a great sunset. By the way, on the way back the truck broke!! But Razta had arranged an alternative vehicle within minutes so we could carry on! I recommend finding Razta in Balgue, he is a great tour guide! And fun to be around!
What a wonderful place! My boyfriend & I stayed here 3 nights and when it was time to go, we didn’t want to leave. This place has everything you need & more. The rooms are spacious with comfy beds & fans for the warm nights, there is a garden & open chill space with hammocks, it’s a short walk through the property to the beach, there’s a restaurant on site with a delicious breakfast menu & smoothies and even a tour desk if you want to book things to see & do around the island. Fernando and his family are so loving & welcoming and always greeted us with smiles. This place truly made us feel at home and we can’t wait to go back one day.
Nice budget place we had two rooms one with en suite the staff were lovely just down from a fab restaurant we had a very nice traditional breakfast one day and pancakes another served wit a smile. Hired bikes and a quad bike all in great condition please stay here its fab
As we booked last minute I think we got the worst room. The hostal was pretty basic but the room we stayed in was very dirty insects and ants everywhere not clean at all. The hosts were very friendly though.
For 15 bucks for a double room 10 min walk from the Maderas trail head it couldn't be beat. There were 2 really good restaurants (Bamboo and Cafe Campestre) within a few minutes walk. The rooms and shared bathrooms were spotless. The owners had us set up with a friendly and experienced guide for Maderas, a parking space for our ATV, refrigerator space, and very specific instructions on where to get food for our Maderas hike (which turned out to be not only convenient, but delicious). Nicaraguan hospitality on full display. The backyard has a path directly to the lake. Great spot to de-mud after the hike.
Very nice location. A bit secluded so it takes some time to get there, but it is really worth it if you want some days to relax and just enjoy nature and some quiet time. The owners are very nice and welcoming; they really made us feel like at home. The breakfast they serve is nice, and portions are big. Around the hotel there are a few restaurants. It's the perfect spot to start your hikes around Maderas volcano.
The hotel is a bit far on the island, but very well accessible. The owner is the most friendly, helpful and lovely lady. She barely speaks english, but is really patient with trying to understand you. The rooms were very clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast ($3) was delicious (gallo pinto with the best eggs ive ever had) or pancakes).
Balgue is on the quite side of the island, and this hospedaje is a great option. Rooms are spacious and clean, the hosts kind and accomodating with our request, prices are very good, expecially if you stay several nights. For us it is highly recommended. To move around you will need a scooter/motorbike, the bus rides too seldomly: AVOID renting a motorbike/scooter through this premise, although it is not their own business they will direct to a guy who brings you the wheels. Thought, the price is far higher than in the several places just next door, with minimal space for negotiation and no additional value offered. A part this, great place to stay.
