Kallergi Mountain Refuge is reachable by a 4x4 from two different directions or on foot. Do not try to reach this place with a normal street car! In both 2015 and 2016 we were greeted by Christoforos who is a friendly and helpful person. The sleeping area caters for smaller groups as well as a large area for a large...

Fantastic to start many walks in the area. Amazing views over the 'Faraggas' (Samaria gorge) and on to the high Lefka Ori peaks. Place that you will never forget. Yes, bean soup and spaghetti bolognese, absolutely must have!

It was the first stage of a four days hike. We've been welcomed by two young refuge keepers. For a moderate price we got a comfortable bed in a private room, a rich and delicious dinner (bean soup and spaghetti bolognese) and an amazing view of the mountains. Overall a rustic but very warm staying.

First of all you have to remember that this is a mountain refugee not a hotel. As such dont expect luxuries but the warmth and friendliness of the people that love nature, sports and activities. The refugee belongs to the Mountaineering Club of Chania, and this gives an indication of the style of the place. The nature around is more...

great refuge, only about 1.5hr walks from the Omalos plateau. You can spend the night if you wish, showers and food are available, beds and quilts are provided, but best bring your own sheet or sleeping bag. Christoforos who is in charge at the refuge is really welcoming and will give you all the info you need to know about...

A stiff walk up to the refuge but worth all the sweat. Good food, friendly staff and warm showers which are only on for an hour or so in the early evening. Beds are comfortable with quilts but best to bring your own sleeping bag. The view across Crete and down the gorge are truly amazing. Visited in early October...

Fabulously situated 5500 ft up this text book "alpine" refuge is a must stay for anyone wanting to spend time in the Lefka Ori. Perfectly placed overlooking the spectacular Samaria Gorge it also boasts a wide variety of hiking (probably 3 days worth) of all standards accesible from the door. The custodian Josef has a extensive working knowledge of the...
