The pools and facilities were great! I don’t understand why places like this have to charge so much for drinks? You would think they would take a look at how many people are not at the bar and say “maybe 20 dollars a drink is a bit high”? The problem is some people pay that much so they keep raising prices. This place is a lot of fun but bring your wallet if you plan on drinking anything…
We stayed for two nights. The location was very good and the view of volcano from the porch was fabulous. The breakfast buffet was very good. However, I do not recommend the restaurant for dinner. All five of us had horrible entrees. Staff is not very friendly in general, which is surprising for Costa Rica. The people are usually very very friendly . The front desk does not allow check out until they count the towels in your room.
good location near the volcano and really fun water slides and great pools . room was big and nice and staff was kind. The food was good at the restaurant and the swim bars were really fun. The hotel was in a great location near the volcano
The hot springs are beautiful and plentiful...so why the 2-star review? 1) Way overpriced. $40/person (+tax). Locker is extra. So, for a couple to just visit for a couple hours (not including food, drinks, etc.), you're looking at $100. 2) Staff was quite rude. Perhaps they were just tired of dealing with so many tourists. After all, tourists from the USA (where I am from as well) can be rude, loud, entitled, ignorant, etc. Maybe the Baldi staff is just used to this, tired of it, or wants to give what they receive. But we are nice, respectful guests and did not appreciate the dismissive attitude in general. 3) Restaurant is terrible. We shared a pasta dish, which consisted of overcooked noodles (to cater to Americans with bad tastes, perhaps?) with bland sauce (Prego?). 4) The slide was almost dangerous and the folks running it didn't care and hardly spoke any English. It's fine with me, since I speak fluent Spanish, but you have to be able to communicate with tourists if you're working at a place like Baldi. There was a kid going down a particular slide after us (and ahead of his father...and no-no!). The kid was totally freaked out at the bottom and couldn't swim. My wife--also not a swimmer--tried to go to help him, but the lifeguard yelled at her. This guard took his sweet time walking over and figured everything was alright, even though the boy was screaming for someone to help him. Luckily(?), his father came down after and almost crashed into him, but ultimately got him out of the deep end (btw, neither parent thanked my wife for trying to intervene). Also, both the father and my wife almost lost their glasses. Nobody forewarned us. Don't ride with anything that could come off! 5) There was an annoying person singing (chanting "ummmm" in a meditative style) in the top pool. This went on for 20+ minutes. At no point did a staff member tell her to consider everyone else using the facilities. Why are tourists so rude and entitled? This could have been easily handled in a respectful manner by a savvy employee. In the end, Baldi is a beautiful place. Just make sure you eat beforehand, share a locker (or find someone who already used one and get their key before they give it back), be careful with what you wear into the water, and be respectful, yet brisk when dealing with staff. Also, please be considerate ad respectful to everyone else using the facility!…
Good place for families with small children. Not the place to go for adult couples and retirees. The food is disgusting! I ordered from the restaurant and bought the day pass with the included meal and disgusting is an understatement. The line for the buffet was 40 minutes long. Not many food options as suggested by Fortuna Expeditions. The food from the restaurant was average at best. The incline made it extremely hard to get to the top springs for the elder couple with me. Very expensive for a lot less.
We spent one day at baldi hot springs. The resort is beautiful and it was not too crowded - but lunch & dinner were way too expensive for what you get (not really tasteful, paper stripes on burger (lunch) & cold food, tough meat etc. (dinner). Cocktails have been between 18-22$ at the pool bar!
Synopsis: they refused to refund any of our money when we cancelled over a month prior to trip; they told us it would be faster to refute it with our credit card company. Details: We made reservations on 29 May 2022 to stay at Baldi with the family in July 2022. A couple of days after making the reservation we cancelled it (31 May 2022). We received an email from Baldi that they would refund our money and it would take a couple of months to receive the 95% of our reservation money back (5% goes to booking fees); part of the email is as follows: "Procesaremos la cancelación solicitada ( XXXXXXX ), le reembolsaremos el 95% del monto total de la reserva, mantenemos el 5% para gastos administrativos tal como se mostró en los términos y condiciones en el momento de la reserva. En este momento mantenemos una larga lista de espera en devoluciones de dinero de otros huéspedes que han decidido cancelar sus reservas también, este trámite podría tardar varios días o semanas.... Sin embargo, le sugerimos realizar el reclamo directamente a su banco para que la devolución sea mucho más ágil y efectiva entre ambos bancos." According to google translate this means, "We will process the requested cancellation ( XXXXXX ), we will refund 95% of the total amount of the reservation, we keep 5% for administrative expenses as it was shown in the terms and conditions at the time of reservation.... At this moment we have a long waiting list for money refunds from other guests who have decided to cancel their reservations as well, this process could take several days or weeks... However, we suggest you make the claim directly to your bank so that the return is much more agile and effective between both banks." We waited and in September 2022 I emailed back asking about the refund. We received the following, word for word: "Sorry for this situation. We believe it would be better if you go directly to dispute the charge with your credit card bank ( It would be quicker and more straightforward to give your money back ) according to other guests' experiences. Thanks for your understanding. Cancellations reservations Department" It has been a tedious and still unresolved process working with the credit card company despite having email proof that this money should be refunded. My advice to those considering this resort is to only book if you are absolutely 100% positive that you will not cancel at any point for any reason.…
The Baldi Hot Springs resort is affordable and includes breakfast, as well as, access to their 25 thermal baths/hot springs. The thermal pools vary in size and water temperature. There are plenty of options for all, and they always keep one pool open for 24 hour access for hotel guests. Service was great, with all employees going above and beyond for the guests. My only issue was that it was gimmicky and they have built a very tourist like scene around the pools. It was less authentic and I would have loved to see more of Costa Rica in their design. Although we didn't use the Baldi Kids water slides, they did look like fun, and I'm sure anyone traveling with kids would have appreciated it. If you are in the area with kids, this is a great option.
Great place to be at for a nice get away. Lot of pools, all clean and options to move around with different temperatures. We were there with three kids and the amenities are destined both for families and couples or even business people. Overall, great experience and good times.
It’s beautiful on the inside and gorgeous set up. However, I booked my reservation a month prior, had money taken out of my account and even cleared with my bank. Got down here no reservation on file. Was first told that it was bank issue, called my bank and they not only told us, but the staff it had cleared 2 weeks prior. Then was told they didn’t have money, despite showing them the bank withdrawal and a bank employee telling them the money was already accepted. The supervisor then told me “Its not our problem, it’s yours”. I just hope no one is made to feel like this ever again, such a beautiful place, but no accountability.
