Whilst the surroundings were cool, beaches cliffs etc the campsite was a little weird. The pitches are in a maze of long grass that could be tricky to navigate. And the facilities on site were well past there best buy date. At $20 a head...More
Went to have a look and got told off by the lady at the office for looking around. She was really rude. The showers are a big health hazard wouldnt even wash my dog in them incase it caught something.

Well sheltered campsites, close to beach, aswell as penguin colony. Watched penguins arrive in the evening from our tent site above which was amazing, toilets and other facilities could definitely do with a bit of a spruce up.
Stayed here 14 years ago...returned plus our kids aged 6 and 9, and nothing has changed..just how we like it. I suspect that some reviewers want the boring homogeneity of nice playground, tick, lovely showers, tick, good laundry... The showers and toilets here are old...More

Is the Curio Bay Camping Ground the same place as Curio Bay Holiday Park? We are looking to stay at the campground nearest to the penguins, the one that is part of the Catlins Community Trust (I think). We will be in a camper van. Do we need or can we get a reservation (Sat night March 4). Thank you! Kathy

Hi there, I'm sorry I missed your question. I actually have no idea about whether they are two separate grounds but we stayed at the one closest to the petrified Forest where the penguins are so assume they are the same. We didn't book but then I'm not sure whether it's busier for the camper vans - we were in a tent so just tried our luck and it worked out. Perhaps email them and query but it was a beautiful spot and I'd highly recommend it. Have a wonderful holiday :)
