Bujera Fort is a spectacular, newly built fortress in the Aravali hills sitting on the west side of Lake Pichola. Constructed on purely traditional lines, with eighty six hand carved stone columns and many beautiful Jarokas in local stone, we combine traditional features and building methods with twenty first century luxuries. Just 15 minute drive from the City Palace and 45 minutes from Udaipur Airport.

What a wonderful place to stay...Bujera fort has lovely vibes!!
We had booked the whole property for 2 nights and the entire team made our stay so special and comfortable with every detail meticulously taken care of. Richard, the owner was always around to make sure our stay was being most comfortable. Shaktisinghji, the hotel manager, was so warm and always up to a big smile and a yes for every demand we had. Jaswant, the cook and his team served us mouthwatering meals, esp every course was designed for us to suit everyones palette. The rooms, the over all ambience of the place has been personally monitored by Richard and his team. The detailing on every corner of the rooms, bathrooms, public areas, etc was mind blowing. Kudos to Team Bujera and we cannot wait to visit again sooon !!!

This hotel was recommended by our tour operators and we are so pleased that they did.
This came at the end of our month long trip to India and as a result we had already stayed at some wonderful hotels.
However this hotel is at another level. It is built in a classic style but as it is only five years old it has all of the style with none of the glitches.
We were welcomed by the staff and the owner, Richard, who is part of the joy of the experience.
It really felt as if you were visiting family or good friends. We were able to have a tour of the premises with Richard and it is clear that this is a project that he and his partner have put their heart and soul. This shines through in the high quality finish and decor of the hotel. There are even teddy bears from Richard’s collection around the hotel.
The grounds are beautiful and there are countless seating areas.
There are ample spaces with a drawing room and library available.
Our room - we were lucky enough to have a suite on the upper cloister. Gorgeous! Everything was so clean and comfortable. Quality furnishings and so homely.
In the evening a fire was lit in the courtyard for predinner drinks and hosted by Richard who was able to provide advice on trips into Udaipur.
The food was exceptional and prepared by four of the most pleasant staff who encountered - really passionate about their job and so talented. They made time to come out after food to get feedback on what was faultless food.
Afternoon tea is served and the lemon drizzle cake and the muffins at breakfast were exceptional.
It is a short drive into Udaipur and one of Richard’s recommendations, Ganesh shop is a must to visit just for the premises alone.
The hotel shop is excellent, high quality, reasonably priced items.
Premises, facilities, food and most of all staff make this an exceptional hotel. Six stars!

The Bujera Fort was literally the highlight of our trip. Richard Hanlon who owns the hotel, built the property over an eight year period to such an high level of detail architecturally & interior wise, it looks as though it has been around for hundreds of years. The rooms are filled with a mixture of antiques, local fabrics, quilts & upholstery to such a high level of comfort, with large, luxurious marble ensuite bathrooms. The staff are like a small family offering the most delicious food, much of it sourced from their own organic vegetable garden. The beautiful city of Udaipur is a short drive away & Richard is a perfect guide & source of information for anything you might wish to do or see. I could not recommend a stay here more highly.

If you are planning to visit Udaipur you must stay at Bujera Fort. It is located in the Aravali hills near Lake Pichola. As soon as you arrive you know that you are in for an absolute treat. I was travelling alone and stayed at Bujera Fort soon after it had reopened following the Covid 19 lockdown. Richard and his team immediately made me feel at home. There were a small number of other guests staying and we quickly got to know each other over drinks and dinner that evening. The fortress was constructed fairly recently but you would imagine that it’s hundreds of years old until you realise that it’s been designed so well to ensure that everything you might want from a modern hotel is there. Richard and Trish have an absolute eye for detail. I spent my first morning simply wandering around and marvelling at the structures and decor which is an eclectic assortment from what must have been years of travel and collecting. I found myself phoning my wife in the UK and asking where I can purchase old artillery shells to make a lamp! The room was very large and the bed was wonderful and comfortable. I decided to use the giant marble bath and found myself so relaxed that I preferred that afternoon to simply lounge at the fortress instead of going out exploring the delights of Udaipur. The food is very tasty with vegetables grown on the fortress farm. Shati and his staff are very attentive. I enjoyed using the swimming pool and lounging in the glorious sunshine and with the place almost entirely to myself it was pure bliss! I was sad to leave and vowed that I would return for a longer trip.

We came to this hotel on the recommendation of friends who had stayed there the previous year. Even though they gave us a glowing report, nothing could prepare us for quite how wonderful this hotel is.

Very sadly we arrived just when the Coronavirus was starting to impact tourism in India, so the hotel was quiet. Although we were very very sorry for the utterly charming owners, we were incredibly lucky to be upgraded to one of the two Master Suites, and were greeted on arrival by a member of staff who was clearly delighted for us that we would be staying in such a beautiful room that they were so obviously, and quite rightly, proud of. Richard, one of the proprietors, has the most exquisite interior design skills and instead of writing here a long string of gushing superlatives, I will attach some photos of the rooms, which are, like the hotel in general, a seamless blend of Indian influences and English country house.

Clearly anyone is delighted to be upgraded, but everything about the hotel was glorious: food was the best we had in India, and most definitely the best desserts. Much as I love Indian food it was fabulous to have the likes of banoffee pie and creme brûlée after an exquisitely cooked India meal, all using fresh produce from the hotel's kitchen garden. The chef is amazing!

Other thoughtful touches were complimentary afternoon tea and biscuits, a fabulous shop selling gorgeous clothing and gifts, and the fact that drinks and canapés are served each evening at a pre-dinner gathering of all the guests hosted by Richard and Trish, so that it really is like a country house party.

I'm sure it is lovely to stay at one of the upmarket hotels lakeside in Udaipur, but Bujera Fort has real soul and peace and tranquility. The personal touch that Richard, Trish and their attentive team give is worth much much more than just being a passing guest in a large hotel chain.

Thank you Richard and Trish for a glorious and welcoming stay at Bujera Fort. It was just the grand finale to our trip that we were looking for, and a welcoming retreat from the hustle of Rajasthan (which was very much needed after our travels!)

The attention to detail throughout the property is remarkable, whilst the surrounding mountains and local countryside make for an ideal setting. (We'd recommend taking a morning walk through the local villages)
We were also very lucky to be upgraded to the Master Suite, which is absolutely beautiful and incredibly spacious.

The staff were all so accommodating, and the food delicious! We especially looked forward each evening to the canapes served with drinks in the garden under the stars. The head chef prepared dinner according to guest's preferences and what was available in from the garden; he then kindly shared some of his best recipes with us.
We'd like to mention a big thank you to Shakti, the General Manager who was especially helpful with our (very) early check in, and our chaotic last minute plans - he ensured everything was taken care of and seamlessly.

If you're looking for a somewhere extra special to stay whilst in India, then we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bujera Fort for a second!

If you are going to Udaipur you must stay here! This beautiful boutique hotel has charm, character and the most attentive service. It’s a real oasis but only a few miles from the buzzing city of Udaipur. It’s the only hotel truly in Bujera, a delightful spot in Rajasthan.

We stayed in one of the Cloister rooms, which was thoughtfully and tastefully designed. Our bathroom had coloured windows which allowed the afternoon light to fill the room with colour.

The food was the best we’ve had in India and surpasses that in the most famous hotels. The lunch by the pool was sensational, bursting with flavours from the home grown produce. Drinks upstairs with a view of the sunset before dinner added to the experience. The attention to detail is second to none.

Anyone wondering whether it’s worth the extra, I’d just say that this experience will be remembered long after the cost is forgotten. I promise, you will not regret it.

And as for Richard and Trish, the creators of this masterpiece, their hospitality and care was first class. They made us feel part of the family. We didn’t want to leave. For sure, if we are back in Udaipur there is only one place we’d stay.

We had a wonderful stay at this little gem just outside of Udaipur. The rooms are wonderful, the setting extraordinary and the host, Richard exceptional warm. The location, about 20 minutes from the City Palace is ideal as it set in the countryside surrounded by farms. In fact, Bujera Fort has its own organic garden where most of the vegetables for the dinner are sourced. The dinners are terrific with a pre-dinner cocktail served in the garden with a roaring fire to warm by. I highly recommend staying in this intimate hotel.

Bujera Fort is a stunning achievement, both architecturally and in terms of atmosphere and vision. A wonderful mixture of English country house comfort, Indian textiles and antiques. With a brilliant artistic eye and huge care and thought Richard has created a totally individual experience. The food was delicious and beautifully presented by the chefs, in fact all the staff feel like members of an extended family and are smilingly and unobtrusively efficient Little details, like hot water bottles in our beds when the weather was chilly and a wonderful selection of books in our room were lovely to discover, as was the Library downstairs. The tiny pea lights that were lit at dusk and wound around the columns and trees in the courtyard were magical. I had a totally rejuvenating massage in the spa and also loved browsing in the shop. Three days was not enough - I don't think there can be many hotels where one would feel this!

From the moment I arrived I was made to feel so very welcome by Richard and Trish and their wonderful staff. No wonder this is my fifth visit. After a busy time in India we always finish with three days at Bujera to be truly cosseted. Nothing is too much trouble, the food is delicious, a lot from their superb veggie garden, many of the rooms have been beautifully reburshed. All I can say it is the most spoiling time and could not recommend it more highly and I have travelled a lot! Come and stay. SA

Hi, you should ring the fort and ask to speak to the wonderful Richard who built and owns the magnificent fort. I am sure he would try to accommodate you because that is the sort of person he is. if Richard is not there ask for his lovely manager who will also go out of his way to help you. i do envy you the prospect of having a delicious meal at the fort. Hope it works out for you because you will find it the most fabulous evening with fabulous, fantastic, exquisite food. If only it wasn't as far away from Turramurra as it is.
