Our group of 14 (2 grandparents, 6 adults, 6 kids ages 1-8) had a PHENOMENAL time at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. So much so, we all booked a return trip for the same time next year! The facility is immaculate, well appointed, and very manageable in terms of size - we have stayed at resorts that are so large you have to get around via golf cart shuttles, and that is not conducive to our group, which includes someone with mobility limitations and small children with little legs.
The food (and drinks!) were incredible - much, MUCH better than your typical all inclusive! Our favorite was Navigator, which is al fresco dining, Caribbean/seafood. Across the resort there is so much to choose from for everyone - including vegetarians and those with allergies. Room service was a great offering, and we ordered in breakfast several times for the kids. The coffee shop is great for grab and go as well.
We all upgraded to Club and it was well worth it - we enjoyed the private pool, sit-down beachside restaurant, and private lounge, which are all only available to Club members.
We spent most days by the Club pool as well as some time by the beach. We primarily spent time with one another and didn't make use of many activities but there is always something going on and you could never get bored - yoga on the beach, tequila tastings, water sports, etc. A few of our group used the gym and impressed with the facilities. Kids also LOVED the on-site water park - such a perk. For the babies there are several shallow areas and ledges in the pool and water park.
Our kids took advantage of a few Kids Club activities including a scavenger hunt, beach soccer, and feeding fish off a pier. We personally stayed with them - but you could drop off your kids if you'd like. We also went to one of the evening shows - a Queen tribute band - and had a blast.
We also did a family photo shoot one day and so happy with the way the photos came out.
All the staff go above and beyond and truly makes you feel like family. A few to note: - Yasmine and Edgar in Food & Beverage - one evening we celebrated my dad's 70th birthday and they made it SO special, with customized place mats at the restaurant and a beautiful cake! - Deiby (bartender) and Anyeli, Nathalie, and Erika (servers) by the Club pool - just so gracious and we really enjoyed getting to know them - Junior and Yefri (concierges) by the pool - they set up chairs and towels for our group every morning - Juan (server) at the Navigator grill - DJ in club lounge - housekeeping for Room 1533 (never got their names unfortunately!)
All in all such an enjoyable and luxurious and FUN family trip. We can't wait to go back!!!

We chose to visit Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana on the recommendation of one of our neighbors in lieu of Beaches at Turks and Caicos after comparing reviews on several travel websites. We had a fabulous stay – the resort and staff greatly exceeded our expectations and we would happily consider visiting again! We have two young girls, aged four and eight months, and it was the perfect resort for young families.
For those not familiar, Hyatt Ziva is paired with Hyatt Zilara. Ziva is the family-friendly side while Zilara is 18+ only. Having said that, patrons cross sides all the time (so long as parents leave their kids in the care of others when they do).
First, we must say we were deeply impressed with the architecture and decor of the resort. It has a modern, clean, beautiful, and slightly whimsical feel. We immediately felt relaxed upon arriving while waiting to complete check-in. We found ourselves often admiring the look and feel throughout our stay.
The rooms were reasonably clean and there was an option to get both a morning cleaning and afternoon turn-down. A single room with a king bed and pull-out sofa was a good size for our family of four. There was a spacious outside patio that was a great place to have our older daughter colour while our youngest napped. The only real complaint we had about the room was that it was impossible to control the humidity – we are just not used to the tropics! Best to keep the deck door closed and AC running to avoid moistness in the room.
We spent many of our daytime hours at the pool and waterpark. Both were a lot of fun. The kids end of the pool facilitated a lot of impromptu playdates with other young kids and there was a restaurant nearby (Prontoz) for poolside food (mostly pizza and salad – the pizza was solid). They had waiters walking around offering drinks and fresh fruit. We enjoyed taking our oldest daughter to the other end of the long pool where there was a swim-up bar offering many kiddie smoothies (and adult drinks of course).
We went to the beach one morning. Our daughter loved playing in the sand but the water was a bit murky and had a lot of seaweed so we mostly stayed out of it. It eventually got too hot without being in the water so we went back to the pool. The beach was our sole disappointment during the entire experience.
The water park was fantastic! Our oldest daughter loved going down all the waterslides and the lazy river was fun too. There were two poolside food trucks offering decent food (including soft serve!).
The resort had fantastic arrangements for children – this was one of the highlights because it gave us parents some solo time. We would often drop our daughter at kids club (ages 4+) in the late afternoon where the very enthusiastic staff would offer lots of activities and movies – and also take them to dinner at Mercado (the Ziva-side buffet restaurant). Each night there was a kid-friendly part of the show which they would take them to as well; parents are expected to pick up their kids by 8:40pm. Our older daughter loved it! Once she went a couple times, she was always clamouring to go to the kids club. With the help of concierge, we arranged for an in-room paid babysitter for our younger daughter. They made sure we had the same babysitter every night – very thoughtful! – and our babysitter Yajaira “Yaya” Rodriguez was wonderful with our youngest child. She would take her at 5:30pm every night, play with her, feed her a bottle, and put her to sleep by 7. It all went pretty flawlessly and gave us two hours for a solo dinner. She was very sweet and nurturing, you could tell she enjoyed being around kids. The kids club was included while babysitting was $25/hour with 2 hour minimum.
There are also plenty of activities for kids. Daily they publish the kids-club activities: pool-side slime making, soccer on the beach, etc. So you can enjoy those events even if you do not drop your child off at the kids club. They had different characters (disney, robots, etc) and music by the main buffet for kids around dinner time. They also have a nightly show (at 7:30) for families, while we were there we saw acrobatics, music, and a magic show. Our 4 year old loved all of them.
Speaking of dinner, all-inclusive resorts have a mediocre reputation for food – but this cannot be said of Hyatt Ziva/Zilara!
As a preface we have to first state that our youngest daughter is very allergic to dairy and egg (we carry an epi pen at all times) and this is a big source of anxiety for us when travelling – but to our delight and relief each restaurant did a fantastic job accommodating our allergies. At the Mercado buffet, the manager George personally walked us around to all the stations for breakfast and lunch pointing out safe foods. For the table service restaurants, they cooked all allergy meals in separate cookware (and maybe a separate kitchen?) to completely prevent cross-contamination. We could not have asked for any better accommodation of allergies and it exceeded what we’ve seen from most US restaurants.
Moving on to dining experience itself, we should first mention that the family-side buffet restaurant, Mercado, punched far above its weight for what you’d think of as a buffet. It was pretty tasty. We went there every day for breakfast. There were many stations which meant you never really got bored going there- fruit, eggs benedict, waffles, variety of pastries, etc. We especially loved the Dominican station with its beans, stews, and plantain dishes. (It made us wonder why they didn’t have a feature restaurant dedicated to Dominican cuisine. It also inspired us to research Dominican recipes upon our return!) Our server for breakfast, Javier sel Mercado, was especially attentive to us and playful with our kids. Congratulations to the restaurant manager George for doing a tremendous job running this place!
My wife and I met and lived for many years in San Francisco where we often felt spoiled by the availability of fantastic and innovative restaurants and we’d classify two of the resort restaurants in this class of institution
First, on the Hyatt Ziva side, there was the Italian restaurant “Noodle and Thread.” This was excellent Italian food! Highlights include the caccio e peppe, the pizzas, and one of the chicken dishes (we’re not ones to even love restaurant chicken). Kudos goes to the managers Carlos Brito and Suanito and hosts Charina and Sonlly for curating such an experience. We also loved how they decorated it!
Then, on the Zilara (adult only) side, Brando’s was just superb: we went there twice! We loved all the signature cocktails, tried three of the entrees (the salmon, beef tenderloin, and duck were all fantastic, though the duck especially stands out), and we just had to get the ceviche both times. Also, the ambiance included wireframe bulbous partitions, chess piece-like lampstands, and black-bottomed shallow pools of water – extraordinarily creative and delightful! The service was also excellent. A shout out to our servers on each night: first Eduardo Berroa then Julio Mercades. Also, big congratulations to the restaurant manager Jaime! It’s an experience we dare not forget.
The only restaurant that really disappointed us in terms of food was the lunch at Navigator Grill. Tempest Table (Asian) and Journeys (Indian) were both solidly above average for their kind of cuisine but didn’t strike us in the same way as Brandos or Noodle and Thread.
In terms of drinks, Grog Grotto on the Ziva side and One-Eyed Cat on the Zilara side both served excellent specialty cocktails. (Yes, cocktails are weaker on the Ziva side, but that seems prudent, doesn’t it?) One-Eyed Cat took us right back to our pre-kid days hanging in cool bars: the ambiance, decor, service, and quality of drinks were just stellar.
My wife visited the spa for one session and really enjoyed it.The staff were all very professional, the grotto area was very beautiful, and the extended massage treatment was great.
we never really had a chance to make use of the gym – but we walked through it crossing over to the Zilara side. We were shocked at its expanse and quality – it spanned four or five rooms and had enough modern gear to keep at least 40 people occupied without feeling crowded. It had any kind of exercise gear you could want in a gym: weight machines, free weights, spin bikes, regular bikes, treadmills, etc.
A few pro tips for travelling families: - As your kids make friends at the pool, be sure to evangelise the kids club with their parents. The kids club is way more fun for your kids with familiar faces around and most parents don’t realise the kids club exists or will escort kids to dinner. And most parents happily jump at the opportunity. Our daughter still talks about some of the friends she made there. - Swimwear won’t dry out like you expect it to given the humidity. Pack multiple swimsuits and consider disposable swim diapers so that you’re never reusing wet swimwear - If using baby bottles, pack dish soap for washing and wash with bottled water. You can request a case of bottles to be delivered to the room if you are mixing formula. The resort cannot provide dish soap. - We used powdered formula + bottled water. We also used bottled water to wash bottles. The mini-fridge in the room felt cold enough should you prefer ready to feed formula. - Bring your own tote bag and floaties for the pool/beach unless you want to buy there. Our experience all the parents were very nice in sharing toys and having the kids play together.. - You can pre-arrange babysitting before arrival by reaching out to concierge over the phone or via email. - For lunches, consider skipping the poolside restaurants and head to Mercado when you can! It’s annoying to dry off and move but the food quality is far better and with more variety. - Bring US cash with you for tips. Even though it is an all-inclusive, the staff work very hard and the service is fantastic. You can get cash at the resort but they charge a 10% fee. - You can reduce airport baggage by renting a stroller through Concierge. I would call ahead to ensure they have one available. - The resort will also help you book transport to and from the hotel. Just be sure to clearly specify what type of car seats you need if travelling with children. - In terms of water quality, there is plenty of bottled water at the resort and the ice is safe. We had heard things about friends travelling to the DR (staying at other places) and getting sick, but this was not a concern at this resort. We had plenty of cold drinks with ice and had zero issues.
Our five day stay at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana was truly phenomenal. We could hardly have asked for anything better! Above all, we want to express our greetings from afar to each and every one of the staff. They were at all times friendly, endearing, and thoughtful. Without them, the resort would be nothing – well done!

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and it was a mostly positive experience
Pros:
Very convenient location only 15 mins from the airport
Weather every day of our trip was perfect
Beach has powdery white sand and turquoise water
Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful including housekeeping and beach attendants
There is a ton for kids to do. Really fun kids club (huge shout out to Yaya who is the heart and soul of the whole thing). One night the kids and staff pitched tents for an outdoor camping and movie night, my kids loved it. Really nice splash pad and water slides for the kids
Spa is lovely with expert masseuses
Beds are very comfortable
Cons:
I didn’t think the food was high quality enough given the price. Especially at Mercado which is their buffet. And it’s not really a buffet given everything is behind glass and you have to ask a server for anything you want to eat, even a bowl of cereal or an apple. There’s a lot of miscommunications about what you’re trying to order and what they actually put on the plate. I wish you could just serve yourself. It was frustrating for my kids as they are used to buffets where you serve yourself. The food at Chinola is much better and seems fresher, healthier and is a less frustrating experience
We paid for a club level room that sleeps 4 but were disappointed to see one of the beds was a pull out couch. It was so uncomfortable that my kids climbed out of it and squished into the other bed with me and my husband and no one got any sleep. I went to Reception the next day and explained the problem. It seemed like a big ordeal to change rooms, took multiple phone calls and conversations and waiting around and I was told to come back later etc. Finally got into a bigger room (at a much higher price) and that made a big difference to our enjoyment of the trip. I wish the staff had made it easier for us to move rooms though.
I was disappointed by the decor of the place. Especially at Mercado which is decorated wall-to-wall with fake plastic fruit which is very frustrating when you’re hungry and go to grab an apple and it’s fake and the real one is behind glass and you have to ask for it. Piles of fake fish and fake bread. Even the trees in the reception area are plastic and surrounded by fake plants. Given the place is a tropical paradise, you don’t need all of these cheap things to make it beautiful. It really takes away from the wow factor. Even water at the restaurants is served from plastic Dasani water bottles and it’s so bad for the environment. Can they not install a water filtration system?
Overall I thought the location and the staff were really lovely, the decor and food were average (except at Chinola) and the kids club and water park were very good

We had a great time overall but left questioning the value. As a thorough vacation researcher I appreciate reviews that break it down.
Traveled January with husband, 2 yr old and 4 year old.....
Food: Our biggest complaint. While the presentation is beautiful the taste is just average. At the end of the trip we couldn't really name more than 1 dish that was wow! Noodle and Thread was our fav the Italian place, beef ribs was the wow dish. Asian was ok, and didn't make it to Navigator for dinner but had it for lunch. Buffet was also lacking in variety and taste. Also annoying was you didn't self serve which is great for cleanliness but frustrating to wait in line for every station, workers talking to each other, giving you too much or too little. Room service was also ok, the waiters delivering were awesome and always quoted 45 min or less. Just felt for this price of resort food should be wow.
Service: very friendly staff but pool service is slow. Dinner waiters usually very attentive only had 1 night being ignored. Other workers passing always say hello and place a hand on their heart.
Beach: my vacation must have is turquoise waters. The beach was beautiful!! Soft white sand and bright blue waters. There was some seaweed washed on shore but minimal and no smell. The water has lots of tiny pieces in it so not many people swimming in it but it's pretty to look at!
** tip if you walk north on the beach next door Secrets resort has super cute photo props...parrot wing swing, an over the water hut swing and a hammock.
Pool/ Waterpark: pools are not heated so they are a bit brisk. Ocean water is same temp. My kids were unphased and spent a lot of time in there. Hotel has lots of toys and floats for kids so that was an awesome perk. They have a cold hot tub and a huge hot one. We did a cabana one day but did pool chairs rest of the time. They have thick cushion pads and wicker so they were really comfy and my kids could nap. Waterpark was really disappointing. We went to the toddler pool area and they have these blasting water jet sprayers all over the slide so trying to go down it will waterboard you. Both kids were crying after 5 min.
Transportation: we booked thru hotel Transekeur and very happy with them. they had car seats, drinks and very friendly drivers that were also prompt.
Hope that helps! Great time but just not worth the price in my opinion.

I didn’t know we were visiting Cap Cana vs Punta Cana. Cap Cana is a secluded “gated” town south of Pu ya Cana. It’s under developed and I hope it stays this way. Hyatt Ziva is exceptional located in Cap Cana. The beach area is incredible with a floating net wall to keep out the sea weed and allow visitors a space that’s plenty big and not too deep for young kids. The all inclusive food variety, quality, service was incredible. Being a family of 5 the only issue we had was booking 2 rooms and finding out a couple days in advance they weren’t connected. The ultimately were able to figure it out but those traveling with children this could be tough when Hyatt will not guarantee the request. It’s actually a little strange when you paying double that it’s not something they can guarantee based off the age of the children. Overall, it worked out but it took a lot of work to get there before departure. Overall Ziva was great and we would love to return again. If you’ve had any hesitation about Dominican Republic, this area would make you want to live there. The people, the beauty and everything in between with the convenience of the airport to the resort. Very safe very beautiful.

Just got back from a vacation with extended family at the Ziva Cap Cana and we could not be happier with our experience. We were planning our next trip back to the Ziva before we even left! We used Grand Master suites for families of 4, it’s a king bedroom and 2 pull out couches in common spaces annd 2 bathrooms, and it worked out great. One larger family got a regular room to adjoin with the grand master suite which added another bathroom, 2 beds and another pullout couch. The grandmaster suite also had a jacuzzi bathtub on the balcony which was popular with the kids.
We did Cabanas 9 and 10 by the pool which gave our younger kids a shallow shelf to play on in the pool. These particular cabanas have a great beach view, some are less picturesque. It was also close to the swim up bar and the Chinola restaurant, which we liked for lunch .
Our kids liked swimming in the pool and beach in the morning and spent 2-4 at the kids club. This is located right next to the splash pad and water park so it was easy to hit those right when we picked them up. We were able to find food all our picky eaters would try at Noodle and Thread and Tempest Hibachi. Most breakfasts and a few dinners we did at the Mercado Buffet, where we could be a little more relaxed. Some adults tried out the spa and it was pricey but beautiful.
There is an outdoor movie for the kids every night, which ours ran to on their own while adults lingered over dinner in the restaurants right next door. On my sons birthday, the staff brought him a cake with a huge sparkler on top- it was very memorable.
We were most impressed by how well the hotel is maintained. There were staff members cleaning the pool continuously, and all the spaces felt spotless. It was a great combination of kid friendly and luxurious. We will be booking the same exact trip next year!

We had the best experience at the Hyatt Cap Cana. Traveling with a large group with many kids, everyone was very accommodating. Although the resort was pretty busy, it wasn’t a struggle to accommodate all of us as the same time. Restaurants actually have good food. Coming from NY, it’s very hard to compare to our food- but this was def one of the best all inclusive food I’ve ever had. Anything you can imagine, u will find at the buffet. Poolside is always grilling for lunch… although I wish they would have changed the options for food on the grill. Waitress staff at the pool and beach are very friendly and eager to please you. Hotel is very clean, rooms are rather spacious. I love the turn down service at the end of the night. Cleaning service comes back in to your room while you are out to dinner, or what not to give you clean towels, they prepare your bed and give it a little clean up. My favorite part of the vacation was the entertainment for kids/families by the pool and beach. Amado, Elvin, Jose were amazing at their job. Interacting with guests, making sure they are happy, playing with children, getting you anything you need. They are always around for you, and you know they love their job, because they are always smiling. My children cant stop talking about how much fun they had with Elvin. He was a rockstar!! Thank you Hyatt Cap Cana for a memorable experience. We’ll def be back!

We made a company trip for our employees in July. We took a group of 28. We had a blast. This resort is one of our favorites. The resort is very well kept. The staff provides excellent service throughout. From the beginning we were welcomed by Darling M., she has helped us in the past and she ensured that everything was prepared for us in advance and stayed on top of our group throughout our stay to make sure everyone was having a great time. Yazmin one of the managers over the restaurants also provided excellent service. She was telling us she moved recently from Mexico to the DR and she is doing an amazing job staying on top of everything at the resort. You can see her visiting the different restaurants throughout the property constantly and ensuring everything runs smoothly. She ensured we were well cared for. Jorge, Amanda, and Freddy cared for us at the cabanas we rented throughout the week, they were always on top of our needs and provided excellent service. Yefri, the manager from the Club pool would check on us daily and helped us with some requests we had. He is very personable, we had met him during one of our previous stays and we consider him a friend. The entertainment staff did an amazing job at personalizing some things for us and ensuring that everyone in our group had a great time. We especially enjoyed the silent disco. Manuel from the entertainment staff went above and beyond for our group and his manager Edgar U. arranged a special night for our group. That night was truly something special for all of us, it made our stay extra memorable. One of our favorite nights was the beach dinner. It was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect with the live music. I truly commend the staff and management of this property as they are truly looking out for the needs of the their guests. I like that they don't try to upsale you on meals and drinks as some other properties do. I highly recommend this property. The only word of caution is that once you stay here you will be comparing your stays at any other resort with this place.

Your kind words about our staff and management mean the world to us, and we’re honored that you would recommend our property so highly. We understand your sentiment about comparing future stays to your experience here, and we hope that wherever your travels take you, the memories made at our resort will always hold a special place. We can’t wait to welcome you and your team back for another fantastic stay! Warm regards, Merilina Portes, Social Media Coordinator

We traveled here for a combination vacation/business trip for 1 week and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, and we wanted for nothing. The resort was clean, and the entertainment was top notch! One feature that we loved was that there are no limits on towels, so you can use one for your beach chair, and one as a pillow. You don't need a towel card at the end of the week to check out, which I loved. Just put the towels in the laundry cart by the pool before you leave for the day and there will be more when you need them. I recommend the French restaurant and the martini bar, as well as the buffet. Every day there are pool side special meals and the service staff keep you hydrated. The in room service was also delicious. Our swim up room was cleaned daily, and also a turn down service provided when we were out for the evening at supper. The resort has a family side and an adults only side, with several restaurants, snack bars, coffee bars, and pools on both sides. The beach is accessible from both sides and there are plenty of chairs and umbrellas to enjoy the sun all day. Lots of kayaks and other water sports to do. For an extra cost, you can enjoy an exclusive VIP Club pass which provides more access to exclusive pools and restaurants. We did not do the spa, but we had friends go and the loved it! We will return for another trip!

I have been to many resorts all around the island, including most of the highly rated properties. There are things I liked and some that needed much improvement for the luxury price one is paying. I stayed 4 nights in the middle of July.
The positives: Service is outstanding. The workers are 5 stars, no doubt about it. The decor of the restaurants is impressive. The Water park is a life saver, especially since the ocean is murky with seaweed. The food at the Italian, the Indian, and Peruvian restaurants were all above average. The Hibachi was just okay. The Indian had very authentic flavors. The adult side Zilara bars provide excellent cocktail presentations and mixes, better than on the Ziva side. The rooms were nicely decorated and of a decent size. Room service food was better than expected.
The negatives:
The buffet was underwhelming, flies that should not be present, and food that doesn't always look that fresh (family Ziva side). The club level pool and bar doesn't provide any special drinks you can't obtain elsewhere with the same mixes, anyone can access, so it's pointless to upgrade to The CLUB. At the adults side you get higher grade Ice cream (haagendazs)and Family side you get local brand ice creams(Helados Bon, and not their black label premium grade). The point in mentioning this, I dont see why anything would be downgraded when the family Ziva side is probably spending more money per room than the Adult side. The beach is useless during the seaweed period, that's not their fault. The entertainment at night was good, but the place where it is held has no cover and everyone got rained on every time a show was held. For the money, the seating area should be covered to account for rainy days. Workers did try their best. The beach and lawn barbecue setups they do took great efforts to set up, but the meats were fatty and without taste; I would skip that and head to the a la carte restaurants.
In my opinion, the hotel may have been 5 stars at one point, the service is still to that level, but there are things management may be slacking with as far as cutting corners with quality of ingredients of the food and drinks. I was with kids, so 95% of time stayed on family side, i could see an adult couple having a better experience on the adult side, because they do have better offerings on that side, from my experience.

We loved our cabana day… I thought it was totally worth it and with the club level discount it was an easy decision for us. Great base of operations for the day .
