This is a lovely hotel with an onsite owner who is very responsive and available. Fantastic breakfast served in dining area or can be taken on the patio or porch. Immaculate throughout, easy parking and a very short walk to town or the beach.

Kala is perfectly located - near enough to all the shops / restaurants and beach the room was spacious, pool was great and owners were so kind - they have bikes and gave us good recommendations for restaurants. The common space is beautiful. This is a good find and best value for the area! We would have stayed another night if we could.

My boyfriend and I spent two nights at Hotel Kala towards the end of February and absolutely loved it. First the hotel is adorable, and after a long and very hectic trip from NYC, it was wonderful to arrive to the hotel's serene setting, with its mostly white furniture and calming music in the lobby. The double room we took was perfect for our needs, big enough to comfortably fit two large suitcases, and had a patio you could walk out from to the pretty pool and garden (which had lavender bushes everywhere and smelled lovely). The beds are super comfortable and we slept like babies. The bathroom is also pretty large with a large walk-in shower (although we had a minor problem with the drain in our shower. We could have asked to have it checked out but we didn't bother). The breakfast in the morning was simple but tasty, with fresh orange juice, fruit salad, yogurts, cereals, ham, cheese, marmalades, and a wide variety of cakes/desserts items that apparently were yummy (according to my boyfriend). I had to stick to my gluten free rice cakes, which they had happily stocked up on before my arrival. We used the pool for a bit and was also very serene, and had a little private shower/sauna area that you can use if you check out early and want to still use the facilities (as we did). What I loved most about the hotel though was the genuine service and hospitality by all the staff and the owner, who were always on hand to chit chat, assist you with recommendations around the area, restaurant bookings, etc. Although one would think that these things should be standard at any hotel, one really felt at home in this cute little place and the special mood the staff puts you in is definitely unique. One thing to note is that although the hotel is a few blocks from the beach and city center, the hotel lends you bicycles which we used one of the days. The ride was 7-10 minutes. As we walked around the town though, we noticed that almost no good hotels were near the center or beach (we went to Manantiales, which was beautiful), which made us feel even better about our choice. After all, the location is what makes it so peaceful. I highly recommend this hotel and will absolutely stay there again if we're back in the area.

This a great boutique hotel, a very relaxing place! We spent 4 nights during carnival (2015) and had a great time over there. The hotel is small, very "personal", clean and with a very helpful staff. The breakfast is included and even though it is not very varied, everything is fresh and tasty. It is located very close to Mantra Resort, next to fancy mansions in a woody neighbourhood. It is difficult to choose where to stay when you go to Punta. Hotels close to Conrad are also closer to the city center. The Peninsula is the city center where there are more hotels and restaurants but it is more crowded also. La Barra is about 5 km from the Peninsula area and it is more charming than it, with its own little center with nice shops and restaurants. The beach atmosphere is more present in La Barra. From there it is easy to go to Bikini Beach, Manantiales and Jose Ignacio, anyway you will need a car. It is almost impossible to visit Punta Del Este without renting a car. I was traveling with a friend and had a great time but I specially recommend this hotel for couples.

What a great find here at la Barra ! Lovely clean, spacious hotel. Amazing swimming pool, lovely gardens etc. Feels like a home. Staff very attentive. Wifi good. Breakfast simple but very good. Highly recommended as in a quite area but still close to beach etc .

During our Uruguayan discovery trip, we were looking for a nice place to relax, out of the busy Punta del este. In the calm hills of La Barra, the Kala hotel was just perfect for that. The hotel is really beautiful, rooms are clean and spacious, with a nice small balcony, the pool area is just stunning and really enjoyable. It is 10-15 min walking distance to La barra main street and the nice Montoya beach. Better have a car if you want to explore the area and the others beaches - Parking at the hotel. Staff was nice and helpful - they complementary lend you beach chairs, umbrella and towels. Breakfast is correct, everything you need. We had a great time in La Barra and at the Kala. Will definitely stay again there !

From the minute we walked into the lobby I knew I would love this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel was clean and bright with a beautiful pool area. The rooms were large and clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. I only we wish we had stayed more than 1 night.

Great pool, well sized rooms and get the outdoor jacuzzi if you can!
We went with our family and all loved it.
Is a walk (or taxi) to town unless you have a car.
They can also organise good places to eat.

They all made us feel special. Quiet setting with peaceful patio seating overlooking the pool. We are now in our last days in UY, and find of all the places we've been Kala is our benchmark to compare others to. Spacious rooms and bathrooms and good breakfast. Close to town and beaches set in lovely neighborhood.

This has been by far one of the cutest and nicest Hotel I've ever been. The front desk girls were spectacular, Shami that was at the desk as well was one the most wonderful people I've ever met.
I can't express how amazed I was of this hotel. All the greek influence and the cozyness that makes you feel was perfect for me. And I must say that I miss a lot the freshly baked bread they gave us in the breakfast.
I will definately come back to this hotel, the way I was treated, the cleaning ladies were very helpful and of course I loved that I could use the bikes!

"The ground floor rooms that face the pool have a little less privacy because you can see inside your room from the pool. Staying on the second level is a bit better because you can keep your windows and curtains wide open."
