Stayed here for a wedding in the area and had a really nice time. Our rooms were ready earlier than expected so we could leave our things there and get sorted before the wedding. We stayed in the juniper room. It was lovely and clean with a nice tea and coffee making set. It's designed in a quirky way but... More

There are so many things right with this gem of a place that it's difficult to know where to start. Set on the banks of a river in the garden-heart of Kent, the location couldn't be better for a visit to Canterbury, the coast or countryside. In fact - find any excuse to get here and be prepared for a... More

We stayed here for a night whilst attending a wedding. Staff very helpful prior to booking and allowed us access to room to change. Beautiful location set upon the river made for lovely views from balcony! Rooms at face value very nice, shabby chic design! Nice touches with towels, hairdryer, coffee/ nibbles, toiletries! Although disappointment in basic elements, shower lacked... More

We needed a place to stay for one night as we were attending a get together in the area. Due to work commitments and traffic we arrived really late to the hotel after 11pm. I phoned twice and spoke to the lovely Katie who was helpful and waited for us to arrive before she finished up for the night. When... More

Staying at the Grove was an absolute pleasure - the staff were so friendly and helpful especially as we had my two small grandsons who were energetic and excitable. The rooms were spacious and overlooked the river as well as being clean and well furnished. The manageress was excellen t- so hard working, friendly and efficient- in fact all staff... More

I had the misfortune to be taken here last Sunday. My son had booked a table for lunch. There were 4 people behind the bar, none of them paying any attention to the people waiting to be served. They were totally disorganised. After about 5 minutes we were told that our table was"through there. Your name will be on it".... More

Unfortunately the grove ferry make over has made the place less inviting. The main problen however was not it make over, as I've been going her for the last 20 years or so, and was extremely impressed by the last manager lucky. However I came two days in a row the first was for business drinks. Where we were met... More

We used to enjoy as a family a visit to this venue at weekends & during holidays. After our visit today we won't be returning. The current owner has decided to become a vendor of only Shepherd & Neame beers including the thinly disguised Whitstable Bay offerings which are also from the same company. The children's area has been removed... More

Great location deep in Kent, we have a charming room with balcony overlooking the river . Staff very welcoming and rooms big, airy and clean. Breakfast menu is terric and the eggs benedict was the best ever. Great location for touring Kent .

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to our homely little slice of Kent. The Grove Pantry Pub is an old Georgian manner sitting on The Great River Stour in the middle of the Stodmarsh Nature Reserve. The Georgian manner is now our very own pantry pub with pigs, goats, chickens, pheasants and quails all in our gardens and helping us to be proper country folk. Our menu is brought to you by our very own forager chef who trawls the countryside each season to bring you fresh ingredients. If our chickens are up to it the eggs on your full English will be freshly laid and collected that morning and if you cant quite polish the breakfast of don't worry Lily and Pickle our pigs will eat the left overs except for the bacon naturally. If you are naughty during your stay the team might rope you in to helping pick the fresh veg, herbs and fruit from our garden or feel free to volunteer and you might get a free slice of cake. But don't forget there is loads to be seeing and doing in the local area including boat trips chartered from the pub and pleasant walks around the nature reserve that boasts some very rare birds and beautiful panoramic views of the marsh and river. Don't expect a glitzy spanking hotel but expect loads of character, lovely old rooms with all the facilities you need to spend a weekend in the country with the added benefit of a short hop to the beach or Canterbury itself. The pub has its very own pantry area where you can pick and choose items made by the team, we have open fires and stoves, plenty of comfy chairs, a menu to make your mouth water, ales racked up on the bar and some scrumptious wines. The rooms are big and airy in that typical Georgian fashion, each is individually styled and has its own bathroom. All rooms have large sash windows overlooking either the river or across our front garden into the nature reserve. oooh! ... more   less
