A quiet well-appointed campsite in Rutland, England’s smallest County. Just over a mile from Rutland Water, the campsite offers stunning views of Rutland’s rolling hills over the Chater Valley. A great campshop with fresh bread, and other local produce provide everything you need to live well while on site. And if you prefer not to cook yourself, the on-site button-Hole Café has a great selection of food and drink, and is also licensed. Shower and toilet facilities are clean and functional, but a bit rustic. Walking distance to the pub make this a great place to stay.
I have not been caravaning to be honest since i was young so it was with some reservation i embarked on this escapade and cam e across Wing Hall. This is a mix of tents and caravans in a field as part of the estate. Now or should i say still run by a wonderful old lady who disproves the theoryof retirement with akind of zealous energy and welcome that made us feel at home when we checked in. She knows everything and is so helpful as we did not have the right hook up cables for the electricity. No worries she had one we could borrow (at no extra price) The facilities are a mix of showers and toilets. (there are two sets one good and hot and one has seen better days. The tea and breakfast room should you wish to eat breakfast , lunch or tea is well placed looking over the lawns. there is a shop too if you want to buy some last minute shopping. Overall, this is caravaning or camping at its best and good value too. Placeslike this need to be supported before they are lost to modernisation and the too easy life!
I stayed here with family from 3rd to 6th August and was sceptical of previous trip advisor reviews. It was the sunniest weekend of the year and the site was really busy. We had a lovely sized pitch for our 3 tents and 3 cars. Check in was quick and easy and our location was great. The little shop is really well stocked and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful right from the word go. There are plenty of toilets, showers and washing up sinks, but they are split into different areas, so you need to look around. The facilities are basic, but everywhere was clean and with plenty of toilet roll (an important factor for me!) There is a washing machine and tumble dryer, bikes, BBQ's and fire pits available to hire. The restaurant is nice with very good food. Drinks are no more expensive than going to a pub and sitting outside is lovely with the hens walking around freely. The site is for proper campers who want to eat round a BBQ, have a few drinks and play games and forget their working week. It's a place to see kids running around enjoying themselves and families spending quality time together. Everyone using the facilities while we were there made sure they left things wiped down and clean after use and didn't expect someone else to clean up after them. The site is really convenient for Uppingham, Oakham and Rutland with lots of lovely walks and shops for everything you might need. If you want luxury 4*accommodation, toilets that people staying in a field won't use, no neighbours who might be drinking and laughing until 11:30, then camping isn't for you. I loved this site and we all had a great stay. I would recommend it and would definitely stay again.
Great site not far from Rutland water. Happy to take groups of families (we were 3 families) and place them together if possible. Good amenities, not the poshest loos/showers but fine, relatively clean (it, was busy) and fit for purpose. We were pitched along the road, which thankfully wasn't busy. Cars were allowed by pitches, which did make the site feel a bit like a car park on the Saturday night as it got very busy, but it soon cleared on the Sunday. The estate and hall are beautiful. They squeezed us all in for tea at the on site Button Hole Cafe on the Friday night and the welcome was warm and the food delicious. Live music on the lawn on Saturday night was great and the kids enjoyed playing in the woods. There was a great, almost festival atmosphere! Most people adhered to the rules of the site, no music, quiet by half 10, though there was the usual annoying family with young kids who woke the whole site at 6am each morning and had missed the 'quiet till 7am' memo 🙄. Super, well stocked on site shop, helpful staff and reported repairs were dealt with quickly! Will definitely return!
We stayed for four night over the August Bank Holiday. The site was extremely busy over 400 pitches all in use. They still managed to keep facilities clean, we never had to wait to use them. Fields well cut, maintained. The cafe was very nice for tea and cakes. Music evening on the Sat. Sunday was very wet which was a shame as Wing village had gone to a lot of trouble to put on a fete.
