When I checked the room I found it OK to stay in and asked if they had running hot water which was confirmed. Never happened!!! I had to through google translate insist on hot water every morning and it would take almost 2 hrs for it to happen. There one one gentle man who was always helpful when I found him. The man or lady behind the reception would just ignore the request. And laugh it off. Very sad as so much tourism can be developed in the region but one does need basic infrastructure to make it happen. Also till you reach your room, at meal times, the whole hotel would smell of cooked meat. These hotels need to be monitored by a government agency so tourists get what they have been offered . Other than that location was nice and people in Khovd very nice
For Khovd this hotel is probably second best. First place goes to the Steppe Hotel walking distance (within 1 mile) of the Minj. The Minj serves breakfast but the restaurant doesn’t open until 8am. There is WiFi on every floor, although WiFi is not too fast. For its location it’s a good hotel.
Minj was a basic hotel without many expectations. The room was clean. There were lots of mosquitos during summer. There was no internet. We weren't served breakfast. There were no bathroom amenities although clean towels were procured.
So I stayed here on 9/30/16. All was good and fine. Hot water, decent bed, good food... Just like the reviews I read stated. However when I tried to pay for my room with credit card, they took the card to the machine in the restaurant. Then said the charge didn't go through. So I paid cash. Now that I'm back in the USA I've noticed the charge did go through. However I have no cash receipt and have been unable to locate an email to contact the hotel. So if anyone at Minj hotel follows these reviews please email me: trailsendbmw@gmail.com
As far as Mongolian hotels not in Ulaanbaatar go, this one is above average. We had reservations, and there was a slight mix-up, but the staff worked to fix things. The room itself was nice, with a separate sitting room and another for the bed. The bathroom was one with tile everywhere, and the toilet sitting in the spray area from the shower, so things tended to get wet. However, there was plenty of hot water, an item missing for our friends that stayed at the Orgil. The linens were crisp and clean, and there were no signs of insects. We dined at the restaurant once, with good food. The included breakfast was rather spartan, but better than we got in other outlying cities. The wi-fi was weak. This facility is the newest in town, opening in June 2015. They feature 14 rooms, and ours had a small fridge. There is a mini mart next door. Service was good.…
