I recently spent just over a week at Zen on the Ayur Spa package, doing daily yoga, blissful meditation, out of this world Spa treatments, eating delicious food and generally relaxing and rejuvenating myself. This resort is an oasis of calm amidst the noisy and stressful world I

Response from Mahendra S, Owner at Zen Resort Bali
Responded 6 days ago
Dear Sashae Although your concern for the “injustice to the owner of Zen” is appreciated, nevertheless, as the owner of Zen Resort, I feel that it is only fair that readers are presented with a fuller understanding of the facts in order to be able to judge for themselves about what happened during your visit of just one hour to Zen. (1) Zen Resort’s complimentary transport is made available only for guests visiting our Maitri restaurant for lunch or dinner. The reservation was made by the reviewer’s villa manager, who came to the resort in the morning to make a lunch reservation. Zen resort’s car was late by 10 minutes for the pick up. The guests arrived at Zen at 2.30 PM. (2) Upon arrival, the guests were warmly greeted in beautiful and traditional Balinese fashion, and received a very welcome by the General Manager (GM). (3) The GM informed our staff in local language (bahasa) to keep the restaurant open because the guests had come for a late lunch. The guests were informed that that there would be a 4 AUD per person charge for using the resort pool and towels. Upon hearing this, the guests became upset and rudely insisted on no payment for the use of the pool. (4) During the next 30 minutes, the guests sat beside the pool and consumed two bottles of wine and 2 mojitos. The mojitos were served in unbreakable wine glasses as our staff are conscious of glass being broken in the pool area. (5) After their response to the pool charge, the guests were informed that the pool charge would be reduced to AUD 1 per person to cover laundry per towel. The guests once again responded rudely and refused to pay for the towel charge. (6) In an audibly high manner, the guests jumped in the pool for some 20 minutes, making another Zen guest, who was having their first ever experience of underwater diving, feel very uncomfortable. (7) At 3.30 PM, the guests cancelled their lunch and paid for their drinks. (8) The guests asked for the Zen car to take them back to their villa. As a courtesy, the staff complied with organising transport with the Zen car. Although the guests had two towels in their bag, they refused to dry themselves. Instead they purposefully remained soaking wet and sat on the car’s leather seats. Beyond these facts, it is important to note that Zen Resort is a holistic wellness resort and there is generally no pool bar service after the normal end of lunchtime at approximately 2 PM. However, our staff, wishing to meet every expectation of the guests, made an exception to serve them drinks by the pool after 2PM. Furthermore, although the guests state that they are owners of a high profile Australian diving company, they did not mention diving at all to anyone at Zen, including the resort’s GM. As a result, they missed the opportunity to find out about the globally unique Zen Harmony Diving that combines diving with Ayurveda, Yoga and Meditation. Having lived in Bali for several years, one thing that you come to learn is how infinitely warm and respectful the Balinese are towards tourists visiting their island. This warmth and respect is no less present among all of Zen’s Staff. The service reputation of all our Zen staff including the GM is unmatched in the North if not the whole of Bali, as is highlighted in every one of over 600 Trip Advisor Reviews. Yet guests must also reciprocate the respect that they receive, which means respecting the local language and culture, without making prejudicial assumptions about what is being stated in the local language, especially if one is not conversant in it. But most importantly, one should also take time to understand and respect the principles and values of our Resort. As a holistic wellness resort, this is not the place for people who merely wish to drink beside the pool and not engage in any of the exceptional services that we have to offer. The arrogant nature of your review, which is reflected in examples such “We could probably buy 50 villa in Bali and still have change” and your use of sarcasm of being ‘soaking wet’ in the car’s ‘beautiful ‘leather seats’ speaks volumes about your values and principles, and most critically, about your demeaning attitude towards the Balinese, and in particular, our staff, whose renowned hospitality I will always be grateful for and respectful towards.

Hi! What's the best airport to fly into? I see ubud here a few times, but it looks like the easier place to get a flight from the US is Denpasar. Is that too far for the van to pick me up?
Dear Nicole, There is only one International Airport in Bali, Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar. It takes 3 hours from Airport to Zen. We have private car to pick up our guests at the airport. Best regards, Budiani

I like to see the picture of breakfast tables and its variety dishes ? and the size of the bedroom, Queen size, ? and how close it is to the beach ? and finally how will be the water temprature in three weeks time ? Thank you for responding.
Hello, I honestly don't remember breakfast - I believe we ordered off a menu with just a couple options. (The quality of the food was always very good) Bed size I believe is queen. You're about a 15- 20 min walk down to the beach. (And up a hill to get back) Water temp - not sure. I was there in June and it seemed to be high 70s F. Enjoy.
