I stayed at the River Lodge on a trip to Jamaica in December. I had a really nice time there, and I really enjoyed it. It's a renovated Spanish fort surrounded by lush forest and a stream. It is one of the most tranquil guest houses I've ever stayed at! The owner is a very nice and interesting German lady...

Our 2 week stay has been refreshing with all the extra amenities not found in resorts. The fort built in the early 1600s is enchanting with its tower room and lovely court yard gardens set along the river where we swam daily. The dinners were delicious with a variety of choices - fish, seafood, curried goat (usually available only on...

We had a really beatutiful stay of 4 nights at the river lodge. The accomodation is a real attraction and the surrounding area is natural and very peaceful. Brigitta and her team made our stay peaceful and familial. Her husband created every evening the most fantastic Jamaican dinner we´ve had during our whole trip.

Our first visit to Jamaica was at this rural, wonderful lodge. The scenery is beautiful. The people are very accommodating. The food is wonderfully authentic Jamaican. We were able to spend peaceful days surrounded by natural beauty and serenity. For a truly authentic experience, River Lodge is the place to choose!

I have brought groups to River Lodge on a number of occasions, as well as staying there myself. I travel in Jamaica for a living, and can easily say that a visit to River Lodge is the truly authentic Jamaican experience that so many travelers are looking for. The lodge is built from an old Spanish Fort, right in the...

Of all the places we visited in Jamaica Robin's Bay was the most special. The natural beauty all around is extraordinary and the local people so welcoming that we'd not only learnt how to play dominoes but also made some friends. River Lodge was a peaceful and unique place to stay: Steeped in history and completely individual, a labour of...

I discovered River Lodge last year, and went back there recently. After nearly 20 years of traveling around Jamaica I have seen a lot of astonishing places, radiating the right kind of energy. River Lodge is definitely one of them. The place, an old fort, has a magical spell about it, nature is impressive and abundant and the people of...

Do not go there, it is horrible! We've been there with my girlfriend, and it was a terrible nightmare! We had no water at all, and nobody to help us to fix this. The day after, a guy comes to see how was the night, and when we said we had no water, he was rude and mean with us....

I was at River Lodge for one week April 2011 for a yoga retreat. Our group filled the lodge and even though we didn't know each other in the beginning we soon became a 'jungle family'. Yoga twice a day on the beautiful deck in the jungle was wonderful. The accommodations are very rustic and basic and if you come...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A 17th century Spanish pirate fort converted to a rustic travelers inn. The location has sea views and is located on a small river with a swimmable pool. The bed and breakfast was one of the first of its kind in Jamaica and serves a delicious, freshly made breakfast every morning, included in the price of the room. The owners are local and readily interact with guests, giving you insider knowledge of the best spots to go all over Jamaica.
