An intimate and romantic retreat beside a magical lake Set in the rainforest high above the shores of Lago Petén Itzá is La Lancha, a quaint, 10-room lodge decorated with furniture, fabrics, and carvings from Guatemala personally selected by the Coppola family. Nearby is Tikal, the epicenter of Maya spirituality. Buried deep within the rainforest, the ruins include more than 3,000 structures where moss clings to the steps of ancient temples and plazas. With its beautiful lakeshore setting, relaxed ambiance, and close proximity to the lost world of Maya, La Lancha is an ideal destination to both enjoy a languid pace and explore the many adventures of the Petén region.

Arrived on New Year's Day, 2020 - exhausted, admittedly hungover, and looking for some R&R. Wow - so quiet that when we turned a tiny speaker on in our room on a rainy afternoon we felt we were disturbing the entire resort. The lake is beautiful, perfect for swimming, SUP, kayaking. Staff was wonderful, friendly and accommodating. We made arrangements to have dinner for my 60th birthday at the Lookout, and the staff didn't disappoint. Even made me a special birthday cake. The sweat lodge was a fine experience with tea delivered for refreshments. Guides hired for Tikal and the rainforest canopy hike were top-notch. Nice visit to nearby Flores by boat. We headed from La Lancha to Blancaneaux in Belize. Highly recommend the Coppola Family Resorts. Love that they hire locals, treat them well, and source art for rooms locally. Food fantastic. Just a wonderful experience, one we fondly remember while locked down for Jan 1, 2021!

Dear tmcdee, It is so cheerful and encouraging during this unprecedented times to read this very positive and since comment from you with regards to your experience at our hotel. It gives us great satisfaction to learn that you just enjoyed the most of what we have to offer, although there is still much more that can be done- hopefully on a return visit. it is nice that you enjoyed our lake and water toys and our Maya Sauna, as well as having celebrated your 60th birthday with us... it was nice to be part of your special dinner arrangement at El Mirador (lake lookout point). Our amazing local staff from the nearby villages take pride in serving and looking after every detail so as to create unforgettable experiences to our amazing guests.. This was such a nice memory to bring back a year after, although most countries are in lock down, we just hope and look forward that this ends soon and that you plan for a return visit when travel is allowed- and safer hopefully if you decide we can assist in celebrating your 62nd birthday at our jungle paradise once more. Best Regards, Noe

What higher compliment can you pay than returning, something I have done three times to La Lancha. Location, lodging, service, food, beverages... all cared for and tended to happily and lovingly. Smiles, warmth, hospitality, never ending effort to make one comfortable and cared for. Genuine people, attention to details, and a desire to make your stay everything you want. Visiting Tikal, then this is your place. Hoping to just chill, look no further.

I knew that La Lancha was a great base to visit Tikal, Yaxha and Flores Island, but what I learned while there that is was also a wonderful place to enjoy the sun and water. My set of retired girlfriends and I want to "see and do" things, not just go to a beach. It's rare to find a beach destination with high quality activities.. We expected La Lancha to offer wonderful excursions, but were surprised and delighted to find out how wonderful it was to lounge at the lake. The food was another surprise. Everything we had was delicious.

Dear Lesli G, It is so great to read this wonderful review you have left on us! I am so grateful for the time you took out to write and share you memorable experience at La Lancha! Our hideaway sure is a great base to visit our historical archeological sites namely, Tikal and Yaxha, as well as our picturesque island of Flores and natural parks for hiking and zip-lining. Our green emerald Lake Peten Itza is the perfect spot for water activities, here you can decided to either sit and relax at our jetty while enjoying an ice cold refreshing beer or cocktail, or go paddle boarding, swimming or canoeing. Kindly note our La Lancha staff and management would love to have you back sometime in the near future and we shall be expecting you with our great kindness and service & delicious, authentic meals!! Best Regards,

Stayed here for4 nights in a lakeside casita as our base for exploring Tikal, Yaxha, Topoxte, and El Mirador. It's a one hour drive away from the Flores airport, half of which is on paved roads, and half of which is on rocky dirt road (which is bumpy). If you're envisioning going "off campus" and doing a quick run into town, forget it. It's hard to access and it's pricey to get into town because of the distance. That being said, the lodge does a great job of providing you with everything you need for your Mayan adventure: drivers, guides, packed picnic lunches for your trips, and will even pack you a breakfast to go if you need to leave the lodge before the start of the normal breakfast service. We had a couple of breakfasts at the lodge, and had dinner there every night. we strongly recommend the local fish for dinner, which my husband had twice during our stay. All the other dishes were really good as well. Good vegetarian options if you don't eat meat. In addition to the tours, we enjoyed swimming in the lake, catching some sun on the dock at sunset, and being picked up from Flores by boat ("lancha") on one of our trip days to avoid the one hour drive. Our casita was on the hill overlooking the lake. Huge terrace and gorgeous views. Very spacious bedroom for us, and a second bedroom we didn't use (it was just two of us). Very nice decorations all over the rooms. Shower delivered hot water with no problems. A treat was having a second toilet room. On our trip to Tikal we had a very knowledgeable guide (Jesus Antonio) who I saw mentioned in previous reviews. He's the real deal, and was able to satisfy all the questions that were thrown at him. This trip was not budget by any means, but since I like really nice hotels, this property delivered. They took care of all our needs, their service was all top-notch, food was excellent, and we had a great time.

Dear EBY-LIC, I want to send out a huge thank you for such a nice review on La Lancha and it's staff and the amazing experiences you had on your stay with us! I know getting here on the last 20 minute leg of the ride is just part of the adventure,as once at the resort there's much to see and do onsite. You got it right, we are just about an hour away from most of the archeological sites and other nature attractions, so arranging an itinerary for our clients is not too difficult. Our meals are 100% authentic and we love to meet each clients needs and expectations when it comes to food and special requirements. Our amazing guide- Jesus Antonio delivers such amazing information and makes your trips be full of memories. Lake Peten Itza is one of the most amazing spots to be, and enjoy swimming, canoeing, paddle boarding or also take out boat across the lake to Flores Island. Best Regards, Best Regards, Noe
