I was in India twice and this was undoubtedly one of the best experiences I had. Not far from Bhubaneswar there is this enchanting estate where some films by the legendary director Satyajit Ray were shot. Unfortunately, having planned other stages of the trip, I was a short period, but I will return for a longer stay because the place absolutely deserves it. The building is immersed in nature and we had the opportunity, despite the rain, to visit the surrounding forest; Incredible but true, we appreciated it more than the two -day trekking in the SunderBans Tiger Reserve that we have done, one of the largest rainforest of the country in the state of Bengal. But the best part was to meet JP Singhdeo, Naveeta and their daughter Mridvika; Extremely friendly people with whom it was interesting to entertain, because they are sensitive and cultured and of which I will keep a unique memory. The food was excellent and the rooms are large and refined, as well as the tours organized by JP in the nearby temples and villages are interesting and inexpensive. I hope to find you soon, and if one day I will be able to shoot the film based on the novel of my father I told you about, I will definitely come to see and draw inspiration from our meeting. Pietro (and Alice, who will put 10 years on the plane to return here to Rome)…

Came back to Calcutta with unforgettable memories after 3 nights stay at Gajlaxmi Palace in the middle of dense Dhenkanal forest with abundance of wildlife like elephant, wild boar, musk deer, snakes including python. Grand welcome and royal hospitality from the kind and caring hosts is another attraction to remember! Kumar Saheb J P Singh Deo, his wife Madam Navneeta of Udaipur Royal Family and their daughter are very passionate about what they do. The spacious living rooms, the gorgeous balcony, the antique furniture, collection of old historical artefacts and many more are preserved with lot of love and attention. Throughout my stay I was treated with care and unbelievable hospitality. It was amazing! The royal hosts allowed me to stay with them like a family member. They were extremely caring and looked after my requirements to make me feel at home. The food offered were excellent. Fusion cuisine of Odisha and Rajasthan was extremely innovative and tasty. Two lakes near the property are frequented by elephants and other animals regularly and you may be lucky if you opt for an early morning trek inside the jungle. I was fortunate to have a glimpse of a resting python near the palace. The estate is quiet and far from human settlements, with Megha Hills at the backdrop. Felt so much more relaxed after visiting this serene place. Loved every moment of my stay at this beautiful 85 years old Royal Estate built on the slopes of Megha Hill by Singhdeo Dynasty. There are so much more to see like tribal neighbourhoods, Dhokra handicraft village at Nuagaon, National Award winning master weaver’s village at Nuapatna and old temples, to name a few. Wish to come back here again. …

A snow white palace, set in the middle of a verdant green forest, far from the nearest village. Once tigers ruled these areas, even now elephant herds roam free. A mountain forms the backdrop, Megha they call it after the clouds that shroud it. A scarcely possible utopian dream that you have to see to believe. The royal palace sits like a jewel amidst it all. Every room, full of curious artefacts, has a story to tell. Our royal hosts Kumar JP Singh Deo and Navneeta Singh Deo let us stay with them like family. They are incredibly kind, genuine hosts who will accommodate all your requests and make you feel at home. We were sad when we were leaving, so we promised to be back soon. Gajlaxmi Palace is truly unique, the best experience that India can offer. Thank you JP saab and Navneeta madam. God bless you.…

Loved every moment of my stay at Gajlaxmi palace, from the wildlife and natural surroundings to the beautiful property. The hosts were very kind and ensured to make my stay a very homely one. There’s lots to see from wild elephants to immaculate bird life and not to miss the two absolutely affectionate and well trained Labradors, Tabar and Viro who made my heart melt from the moment I set my eyes on them. Getting to see a herd of wild elephants very close to the property was the highlight of my stay and was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking to take a break in nature solo like me or otherwise.

A royal stay is the very midst of the jungle. It blends perfectly with history and modernity. The property is amazing and the food was superb. At night we got a glimpse of an elephant which came very near to the palace gate. The jungle safari was also very adventurous. It was a perfect stay and the entire experience was very satisfying.

Excellent stay. As this time we came during the summer, it was mango season. So while standing at the verandah of the oalace and during a quick drive around the palace, we could see Elephants moving around and enjoying their meal with their families. We really enjoyed the food prepared by Lalit under guidance of Rani Navneeta and Priness Mridvika. And the Chota Rajasa JP was always enthusiast to show us around. We went for the Kapilas Wildlife Safari, a two and half hour lovely drive theough dense forest. Could spot some giant squirrel, serpant Eagle, jungle fowl, jackals, deer etc. But spotting only animals is not the only fun in a jungle safari. We throughly enjoyed the serene nature and dense quite forest during the drive. Also there is a new addition in the family - VIRO, a two month old Labrador. Tabur the Two year old Labrador was fun, whom we met in our earlier trips. This was our 5th Trip to the Palace. But everytime going back to the palace is like going back to our family. See you soon and thank you for the lovely hospitality.…

This is my third visit and stay in Gajalaxmi Palace. In the truest sense of the term it's a hidden gem. It's a heritage property owned by the royal family of Orissa. I just love each and everything of this property. The wonderful hosts, unbelievable hospitality, excellent Orissa and Rajasthan cuisine and of course the heavenly location. We saw the grand gaja/elephants just behind the property. Chance of seeing them is higher in summer because of the huge fruit garden around the Palace. We went to Kapilas safari in the evening, the landscape of the Kapilas forest range is really good! I will love to go back to this amazing place again and again! ❤️

Best possible heritage home-stay inside the serene forest of Dhenkanal, Odisha. It was absolutely a pleasure to stay and interact with the family who still owns most of the land there and the majestic Gajlaxmi Palace. Also noteworthy mentioning the delicacies there, which have a nice blend of Rajasthan's royal courtesy, since the host connects to Chittorgarh.

It was something unimaginable till we visited the palace. Under one hour's travel time from Bhubaneswar, so very approachable to the national highway, we had so many memorable experiences packed in a couple of days. The palace offers a wholesome pack of real royalty and nature, slight rusticity of its 100 years' heritage, history, several anecdotes, collection of nice artefacts over the years, dense green forest all around, the cloud kissing towering Megha hill on the banks of the huge water body. Thanks a ton to Jitendra Pratap Singh Deo Ji and Navneeta Ji and their family and staff for being such wonderful hosts, personally looking into each and every aspect to ensure our comfortable stay and experience. The room facilities and food was absolutely great. It was a unique experience to go with Jitendra Ji on the night safari and spotting the wild boars, barking deer’s in the middle of the jungle in the middle of the night. The entire stay can be termed more of an elephant theme with several herds of elephants roaming around the area and the exciting discussions that were happening on the movement of the elephants and their nature and behaviour which is so very essential to study and be aware of for coexistence. While we spent the first day lazing around and followed by the night safari in the late evening, the second day highlight was waiting silently and patiently on top of the watch tower near the water body, so passionately built for the convenience of the guests, keeping our fingers crossed for a sighting of some real wild life, especially elephants. After a wait of nearly two hours, arrived the majestic beings, not a few but a whole herd of ten elephants including some cute little ones and had their share of fun playing in the mud before getting into the water to quench their thirst and then retreating into the deep jungle. All this was happening in just about 300 meters from us. We feel it will be equally exciting in other seasons as well. It is a place for all seasons and all formats - long stay, weekend trips, adventure trips, nature trips, etc.…
