Nalagarh Fort Resort is located atop a hillock with a panoramic view of the Shivalik Hills. Nalagarh Resort rises above a 20 acre estate of forest and orchards and is built on five levels, two of which have well-manicured lawns. The fort and the palace of Nalagarh have a series of structures that are mostly built in the Mughal style of architecture. These have been exhaustively renovated and are now a quality heritage resort. The retreat is closely enveloped by green hills. Nalagarh was the capital of the kingdom of Hindur founded by Raja Ajai Chand in 1100 A.D. It was ruled by the Chandela Rajputs. The Chandela kings were great patrons of art and architecture. Raja Ram Chander, another illustrious ruler of the same dynasty, was also a great builder who constructed the Ramgarh Fort and the town of Ram-shaher. Raja Surendra Singh was the last ruler of Nalagarh and his son, Raja Vijayendra is the present ceremonial head of Nalagarh.

My husband and I spent April and May driving from Goa to Lahaul Spiti and back, staying in various towns and cities along the way. We stayed at the Raj Mahal on our way up. We were unsure of what to expect in terms of quality of stay and food so had tentatively booked in for 'a night and will see how it goes' . We were blown away by the welcome we received - Mr. Singhal and Mr. Thakur made us instantly at home and their team of staff members went the extra mile to ensure our comfort. Chai on the open terrace in the mornings and evenings were peaceful and calming. We ended up staying three nights and enjoyed every minute of their kind and generous hospitality. The Mahal is a 15 walking distance from the village and one could walk down in the mornings to get papers, shampoo, medicines, mobile phones etc. In fact, the market center near the bus stop is a bustling place and one can probably find most things there - if you know where to look for them. Saw some fantastic vegetables being unloaded in the mornings! On our return journey, we stayed at the Mahal again, this time for two nights. We chose the same Suite as before - Chand Mahal Suite. It is spacious, located just atop the terrace and is close to the Dining Hall and the Bar. Big thank you to Mr. Singhal and his HouseKeeping and F&B teams ... they are smiley, efficient, hardworking and delightful to interact with ... Raj Lal, Satish, Rinku and the others whose faces I can still 'see' although their names escape me. We are looking forward to our next stay there.

The place is very well maintained and has spacious well equipped rooms. The staff is very friendly, attentive and always with a smile. Food was good with decent choice for all meals in the buffets (one non-veg dish in lunch and dinner). The property is surrounded by hills, big and is beautiful. About 25 of us had comfortable meeting in the curt yard and conference room. The five stars go to the location, condition of building and rooms, amenities, food and the staff attitude in serving guests. Stayed in the top most room (504) for 4 nights. Walk to the temple on hill top is a must to burn some of the calories.

The fort nalagarh gives experience of staying in old havelis. Spooky at night in rooms but very warm, cozy rest of the day. Staff is courteous but they have expectations of tips so do give them like we did for every time they are called for any services, be it luggage or room service or anything. Apt for a one night stay although they are pricey compared to getting a hotel room in a good hotel. Overall experience was fine as we were a large group of family. They close by 11 in night so even if we wanted to keep sitting by the fire that we asked for, we were asked to wind up by 11.30pm. Can recommend for one night stay but not more than that. Food is good and staff is very courteous.

The hotel is located at a good location. One will have good view of city in night and the view is really mesmerising. The hotel is in in old fort but not well maintained. Hygiene was an issue in rooms. The bedding and linens were not very clean. Even the floor was not properly mopped and overall hygiene was even less than a 2 star hotel. Even the area in front of reception was full of bird droppings. The good part of hotel were services of staff. The reception was efficient and courteous. Right from check in to check out everything were smooth. The food items at restaurant were limited in choice but were really tasty. Waiters at restaurant and bar were nice.

Wanted to have a escape after returning from official engagement somewhere near to chandigarh with wife and kid . Selected Nalagarh as it was near and from pictures seems like it had plenty open area and swimming pool (my one year old loves water). The place matched my requirement completely. The place was quite and one could relax peacefully here . During Day time headed to Ramsheher which is also a resort . Ramsheher should be a must see if u are in nalagarh area. The staff at nalagarh were so friendly and courteous. Even though they don't serve food in rooms there buffet spread is quite good and food cooked is very good . will strongly recommend if somebody is jus planning to escape the city and relax should head to Fort . Thanks !!!
