Balur Estate is a 400 acre coffee plantation since the 1800s. The planter’s bungalow has been around since 1853. The River Hemavathy originates just above the Estate. Its truly a pretty, fascinating piece of India’s Coffee Heritage.Linger at Balur Estate welcomes you to spend a few days and soak in the place, its history, and its solitude. We could describe it but it can only be experienced.Location : 60kms from Chikmagalur - its in the wettest part of the Western Ghats. The famous temple towns of Horanadu, Kalasa, Sringeri, Dharmasthala and Balehonnur are not far from Balur. Kudremukh and the Charmady Ghats are also a short drive/trek away.

Our travel agent Wayfarer Rajneesh and a friend recommended Linger at Balur estate, we were there 17-20 sep 2022, Really enjoyed the quietness, calmness and like the tag line says 'just do nothing' the caretaker Rakesh is very sweet and responds immediately, not intrusive in your space but hes always there ready to help. Abhishek a nice youngster will take your around the coffee estate if you feel like taking a walk. Special mention to the awesome food, every meal and every dish is a complete satisfying delight !! Shwetha and savitha will make sure you never forget the yummy healthy and tasty very authentic delicacies that they cook and serve piping hot !!

A very mediocre experience. Rooms were not clean, the rugs were dirty, lights went out for hours with no backup or even an emergency light. Hot water not available most of the time. Mattress was almost a brick and could not sleep. Food was just ok. Definitely not worth the price, the place needs complete revamping.

We're sorry you had a bad experience at Balur. We've usually had super happy guests and the food is usually a highlight - we're quite surprised by this and will investigate this seriously. We request you to write in (we, unfortunately, cannot discern your contact details from this) and we promise to make it up to you, and also fix all the gaps you came across.

Had gone there with great expectations since it was a recommendation from a friend. Despite having staying at many homestays in Coorg / Ooty / Chikmagalur area over the last few years, I was quite disappointed in a number of aspects. - The place has no markings on the route even in the last couple of kms. ( although the google maps locations is approximately correct - off by about 200 m to miss the entrance). Not even the entrance has a marking - The place has no power backup even at night and it gets pitch dark in the event of a power cut at night. That is risky and caused a minor injury for one of the kids. At least an emergency light should be available - Food is OK-ish. Although I understand this is a homestay and not a resort food is quite ordinary especially the dinners. - Coffee is quite disappointing given it is a coffee estate. The coffee flavour and aroma is distinctively lower than what I had expected (and got at other coffee estates) The staff is helpful and cordial and try to accomodate / manage as much as possible. Given the high rates this is quite disappointing. Will NOT recommend this place.

We're sorry that your experience was lesser than what's usual at Linger, and especially at Balur Estate. Thanks to long power cuts over the day (and earlier days), the UPS did not get charged and we're discussing upgrading the capacity. Of course, we should have let you know and we'll fix the communication lapse on this. We'll check on the food and coffee - both are highlights at Balur for most guests and in fact we have had many guests who order Balur coffee for personal use later on a regular basis. We avoid the signage since it attracts walk-ins and we avoid that. The Google pin is accurate and people have not had trouble in finding the place so far. Apologies for your experience again. We will reach out directly to you and update you as we plan the fixes and fix the gaps.

We were riding on Motorcycles in Karnataka and Balur Estates was the perfect place to take a break and relax. This is a very quite place (400 acre coffee plantation) British style Bungalow with no wifi (except at room near the dining area). No TV, No Ac, Fireplace and Bookshelves make the unique concept of do nothing holidays a great experience. The rooms are well appointed with Vintage furniture and fittings. Should mention here that rooms are clean and airy. We gorged on some fantastic Malnad Cusine which is the specialty of the region. Breakfast Lunch and Dinner with a awesome array of dishes was memorable. We were the only guests at the Property, so we had the whole place ourselves. We Rode to nearby Kelguru tea plantation which is highly recommended for Bikers. Special mention to Rakesh and all Staff who were very extremely courteous and attentive. We had a great experience and plan to go again soon.

It's beautiful place with big cottages or homes with cute traditional furniture and interiors. Its very peaceful , lovely mountain view in front and lush green lawn where one can sit for hours , relaxing or literally doing nothing. If you have kids along , there aren't any activities inside (apart from estate trek) Its best for couples who simply want to take a break and enjoy peace. Food could have been better, for dinner told to prepare food our liking , and it was gladly accepted and served, service is excellent..

It was an absolute do nothin stay with 2 other families we had in the Balur estate. Highlight were: - Huge estate to wander around endlessly and also buildup your appetite - Estate trails offers mild ruff roading (can't call it off-roading), excellent views from the peak points in the estate - Huge buildings and rooms. Felt like we own the place though there was another family staying. There is enough room for everyone - Huge traditional bathroom with all amenities - Traditional cuisine, though not too happy about the taste of few items but it will never upset your tummy - Birders paradise, we could also find coffee luwak scattered in many places. Staff confirms there is no animal presence other than Civets - Trekking to a nearby peak with fantastic views - Relax and do nothing. It unwinds you. We stepped out of the campus only to visit the river Hemavathy starting point Lowlights not many: - Dogs, though all of us were dog lovers and are used to pets, the 2 dogs there were too much of a nuisance at times. You may find it tough if you are not used to dogs - Many reviews mention about the personal attention from kitchen staff while charting the menu. But our attempt to strike any conversation with them was never successful. It might be the head lady was away We will definitely recommend this place to folks who love nature, and a peaceful stay with some homely food

A long due holiday happened @balur estate.A great company of childhood friends added an extra flavour. The heritage look of the cottages feels so homely. If you are a true coffee lover and want to know everything and anything about coffee then you are at the right place. The man behind this beautiful place MR.chendrashekar is a man of thousand stories. He has an answer to your tiniest qurries. The upto date techniques in coffee field, methods followed by him to develop coffee for modern requirements will leave you spellbound. The wooden furnitures in cottages r so eco friendly. The in house staff r always on their toes to provide you everything. If you are in search of a holiday destination with clean, authentic local food, relaxing, informative then you r at the right place thatis balur estate.

Another wonderful stay from Linger at Balur Estates. Our primary purpose was some easy hikes and birding enroute. We took the private cottage which comes with private dining option.... the rooms are huge, bathrooms are fantastic and huge as well.. We were shown the coffee making process in the evening and then we headed for a short hike to a nearby hill - this where the river Hemavathi originates.. good place to view sunsets.... and some birding as well... We had a great bonfire and amazing clear views of skies... so many stars... Next day morning we wanted to do a longer trek ... so we started at 6.30 and we had a guide accompanying us to a hill .. takes about 1.5 hrs to go uphill on we paved paths....did quite a lot of birding en-route... scenic views... coffee estate all throughout .. Prem Bhadur accompanied us.. great guide...they sent some banana and apple with water with him.. so thoughtful... Food is also the highlight and kitchen staff is ever accommodating.. Rakesh is the caretaker and he is very hard working and is there for all the needs. Balur is a hidden gem one must visit. About 400 acres of private estate... From birding -we saw Orange minivets, woodpeckers, blur rock thrush, crested serpent eagle soaring and calling above (saw one perched during the trek), one black eagle soaring, and many more... Thanks Linger - These nature treks is worth the stay amidst Luxury...Private dining is the highlight !
