Balur Estate is a 400 acre coffee plantation since the 1800s. The planter’s bungalow has been around since 1853. The River Hemavathy originates just above the Estate. Its truly a pretty, fascinating piece of India’s Coffee Heritage.Linger at Balur Estate welcomes you to spend a few days and soak in the place, its history, and its solitude. We could describe it but it can only be experienced.Location : 60kms from Chikmagalur - its in the wettest part of the Western Ghats. The famous temple towns of Horanadu, Kalasa, Sringeri, Dharmasthala and Balehonnur are not far from Balur. Kudremukh and the Charmady Ghats are also a short drive/trek away.

Balur Estate is vast and nostalgic. You can go on endless walks in the estate without getting disturbed by anybody. The rooms and bathrooms are huge and well maintained. Local food is amazing and authentic. Excellent service. Best place to just relax and unwind.

Right from enquiry to checkout, our stay at Balur estate has been one of the best homestay experiences we have had travelling with our dog. It's a beautiful place with comfortable accommodations and great service. Best of all it welcomes pet parents. We were so blown away by the charm of the room we were given and the warmth of the host experience, that we extended our stay by an extra night.
There are nature trails inside the property itself where you can take your dog for long uninterrupted walks. The food was amazing too. As a lucky bonus, all the other guests were pet friendly too, which allowed us to off leash our dog for the full stay.
We really look forward to returning and staying longer.

The only feedback I would give management is maybe look at painting the walls soon and have hot water kettles in the room.

Our travel agent Wayfarer Rajneesh and a friend recommended Linger at Balur estate, we were there 17-20 sep 2022, Really enjoyed the quietness, calmness and like the tag line says 'just do nothing'
the caretaker Rakesh is very sweet and responds immediately, not intrusive in your space but hes always there ready to help. Abhishek a nice youngster will take your around the coffee estate if you feel like taking a walk.
Special mention to the awesome food, every meal and every dish is a complete satisfying delight !! Shwetha and savitha will make sure you never forget the yummy healthy and tasty very authentic delicacies that they cook and serve piping hot !!

It's beautiful place with big cottages or homes with cute traditional furniture and interiors. Its very peaceful , lovely mountain view in front and lush green lawn where one can sit for hours , relaxing or literally doing nothing. If you have kids along , there aren't any activities inside (apart from estate trek) Its best for couples who simply want to take a break and enjoy peace. Food could have been better, for dinner told to prepare food our liking , and it was gladly accepted and served, service is excellent..

We were riding on Motorcycles in Karnataka and Balur Estates was the perfect place to take a break and relax.
This is a very quite place (400 acre coffee plantation) British style Bungalow with no wifi (except at room near the dining area).
No TV, No Ac, Fireplace and Bookshelves make the unique concept of do nothing holidays a great experience.
The rooms are well appointed with Vintage furniture and fittings.
Should mention here that rooms are clean and airy.
We gorged on some fantastic Malnad Cusine which is the specialty of the region.
Breakfast Lunch and Dinner with a awesome array of dishes was memorable.
We were the only guests at the Property, so we had the whole place ourselves.
We Rode to nearby Kelguru tea plantation which is highly recommended for Bikers.
Special mention to Rakesh and all Staff who were very extremely courteous and attentive.
We had a great experience and plan to go again soon.

A very mediocre experience. Rooms were not clean, the rugs were dirty, lights went out for hours with no backup or even an emergency light. Hot water not available most of the time. Mattress was almost a brick and could not sleep. Food was just ok. Definitely not worth the price, the place needs complete revamping.

We're sorry you had a bad experience at Balur. We've usually had super happy guests and the food is usually a highlight - we're quite surprised by this and will investigate this seriously. We request you to write in (we, unfortunately, cannot discern your contact details from this) and we promise to make it up to you, and also fix all the gaps you came across.

After busy few months, my husband and I chose Linger at Balur Estate to relax and wind down. It was an apt choice. The team is small- hospitable and friendly. Willing to help you in anyway they can without overdoing service.
It’s so peaceful- a perfect place to catch up on reading, writing, studying and doing nothing. We had delicious food at every meal!
There’s good birding without having to go anywhere- fairy blue bird, crested goshawk, Malabar barbet, blue rock thrush, nuthatches, vernal hanging parrot, black eagle and many more.
In the evenings we had a bonfire and starry skies.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Lovely hot water for showers.
We couldn’t ask for more.

This trip to Linger Balur estate has been one of our most memorable, satisfying and quintessential experience in the recent past. This post/ review is a little delayed, though the experience is unforgettable.

To start with, payment completed even before we left , spared us the hassle of wondering about what and when and how / how much to pay.

We, a couple visiting there for my 30th birthday wanted away from all the hustle-bustle of Bangalore. We left at about 6:00 AM from HBR Layout stopped in between for a cuppa tea en-route to Hassan and then about 30 kms before Balur. As the traffic was minimum and considering the roads being that good, we were able to reach Balur estate at 11:15 ish. That was a good cover we made.

* The road past Belur towards Mudigere is small, hence a little caution is needed to ensure we don't bang into other local vehicles trying to surprise.

Rakesh the care taker was more than happy to welcome us at the location. We were awestruck with the locale and the beauty. No matter how many pictures of the place you see or of the views from the room, nothing can beat your experience of seeing and feeling it all by your self.
The best bet of all was, it was raining and cloudy descending on the hill. A view not to miss.

We had booked the coffee cottage which is the independent accommodation available at Balur estate. In addition there is the main bungalow which has about 3 rooms with the main kitchen and to other side is another separate cottage with 3 rooms. In between the main bungalow and the cardamom cottage is the lawn with a Bonn-fire set up.

You will find some items as complimentary kept. The owner chandrasekhar has an eye for detail , fantastic taste in recreating the old world charm in all of the cottages. I was dumbfounded with the interiors.

One of the points of this kind of an accommodation is there is not television ( oh Fantastic!!), no mobile network other than BSNL. What a Bliss !!!! Couldn't have asked for better.
This probably is the best way to spend time with one another, enjoy the beauty of the nature and so much more and I can keep going on.
As it was drizzling most of the time & as it also did rain on one of the nights the weather was very pleasant and not extremely cold.

You might come across 2/3 dogs right at the door step of the accommodation waiting to be pampered and help them with food (were harmless).

Coffee cottage: Large , spacious accommodation choicest of the interiors very tastefully done and plush bedding. The size of the cot could have been bigger.
Dining space as soon as you enter, through which you enter the large room with seating. Two opening further one to the Bathroom and another to the reading room .
Large bathroom with the concept revolving around copper ( copper lined bath tub to large andas and chombus)
The reading room has some assorted books of which you could pick or carry some books you want to read. The view from the room is amazing - overlooks the hill where in the windows could be opened to let the fresh air / clouds enter and say a hi to you . ( I din't wanna step out of that room for a long time - just Linger )

Rakesh and the cooks were exceptional with their hospitality.

Chandrasekhar the owner is a very warm gentleman who is open to sharing his experiences. Guess the warmth from him is also transferred to his employees who indeed show that to all the people that visit Balur estate.

Food : Exceptional with local cuisine, we being vegetarians had quite sumptuous food at all times.

Last but not the least there are a lot of activities that one can indulge depending on the number of people that visit .

Accolade the services offered and their hospitality.

The accommodation is situated in the middle of a large coffee plantation. The buildings were the old plantation managers home. The rooms are excellent and full of character and beautiful old furniture. We were made welcome and well looked after, the food was excellent. We went on several walks, this is an excellent place for birdwatchers. It is also near to temples at Belur and Kalaser

This is a small home-like property, and we have a common kitchen. We can instruct the staff to keep the utensils for the cooking separate over your trip, of course.
